USA TODAY's Blake Toppmeyer compares Auburn's Hugh Freeze to pop star in SEC coach ranking
USA TODAY's Blake Toppmeyer compares Auburn's Hugh Freeze to pop star in SEC coach ranking Is this the season that Hugh Freeze and Auburn "roar" to the top of the SEC? It is no secret that the temperature of Hugh Freeze's seat has increased as he enters year three on the Plains with an 11-14 record and zero bowl wins in his first two seasons. Sure, Freeze has built a talented roster through high school recruiting and filled needs through the transfer portal. The development of those players, however, needs to show on the field this season to decrease the pressure surrounding him. Is Freeze up to the task? USA TODAY Sports columnist Blake Toppmeyer hopes to learn the answer to that question by season's end. Toppmeyer recently revealed his rankings of SEC head coaches heading into the 2025 season, where he placed Freeze at No. 12 behind Oklahoma's Brent Venables and ahead of Vanderbilt's Clark Lea. When explaining Freeze's low ranking, Toppmeyer compared the Auburn head coach to pop star Katy Perry, who is known for smash hits including "Firework", "Roar", and "Last Friday Night." Toppmeyer believes that Freeze and Perry are following similar career paths and is interested to see if Freeze's trajectory will change in 2025. Freeze is like Katy Perry. Both were good once, but their best work occurred more than a decade ago, and they're starting to come off like hangers-on, clinging by their fingertips to a world that left them behind. Credit Freeze for recruiting well, but a lot of coaches would recruit well at Auburn. He needs to coach and develop better. There's enough talent on offense to produce more in 2025. This becomes a pivotal season for his tenure. Freeze is best known for his success at Ole Miss by winning 39 games and three bowl games over four years. In Oxford, he increased his win total every season until the 2016 season, when several wins were vacated due to NCAA investigations. Freeze also found success at Liberty from 2019-22, where he won 34 games as the Flames' head coach. He is looking to find similar success at Auburn, and year three could be the season where he emerges from "dark horse" status and leads the Tigers to SEC Championship contention. 12 of the Most Fun States in America, According to a New Study
Whether your idea of fun involves dancing the night away, hiking scenic trails, or catching a movie without blowing your budget, some states simply do it better. A recent study set out to discover which U.S. states offer the most entertainment bang for your buck, comparing everything from the number of amusement parks to the cost of a night at the movies. This study ranks all 50 states based on 26 indicators of fun, shedding light on the places where enjoying life isn't just possible, it's practically a way of life. 'Living in one of the most fun states can boost your mental, physical, and emotional health,' says WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe. 'These states help residents stay active and socialize—and they're also ideal for travelers who want to make the most out of the limited time they have to explore.' Ready to see if your state made the cut? Check out the most fun states in 2025 below! Coming in at number one is the Sunshine State itself. You've probably heard endless Florida jokes about strange happenings and alligator spottings in the city (only in Florida!), but maybe that's what makes it so fun! Florida is definitely unique. With year-round warm weather and 825 miles of stunning beaches, it's a sun-seekers paradise. Not a beach bum? No problem. Florida boasts over 9,200 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and paddling, plus it's the boating and fishing capital of the world. And let's not forget the Everglades, home to the incredible manatee and over 516 bird species. Oh, and did I mention the theme parks? Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, Legoland, Busch Gardens—Florida has them all! Maybe it didn't beat out Florida, but second place isn't too shabby! Did you know California gave us wetsuits, Barbie dolls, and fortune cookies? While those things are pretty cool (and let's not forget Hollywood movies and television), there's so much more to the Golden State. From Malibu's sun-kissed beaches to the snow-capped Mammoth mountains, plus a year-round lineup of music festivals, top-tier chefs, and buzzing nightlife—what more could you hope for? You can visit world-renowned art museums, go behind the scenes at a real Hollywood filming studio, see epic live music at Coachella, walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, or go skiing in Tahoe, all within the same state. It's no surprise that the home of Las Vegas is at the top of the list of fun states. Vegas is all about entertainment and having a good time with its endless casinos, drinks galore, high-end shops, unparalleled concerts, famous restaurants, and flashing lights. The last time I visited Vegas, I got to see Katy Perry's campy, whimsical show, where she sang 'Last Friday Night' from within a gigantic bathtub while six-foot rubber duckies danced around on stage. But Nevada isn't only about city life; the state offers amazing outdoor activities like hiking and climbing with 314 mountain ranges—more than any other state—and boasts 35 peaks over 10,000 feet. There is truly nothing like New York! The bustle of the city energizes you with an indescribable feeling that you don't get anywhere else in the world. And believe me when I say it's not just because of the restaurants, performing arts theaters, and nightlife. Landmarks like Times Square, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty are iconic, but New York's diverse population and cultural melting pot truly sets it apart. There's always something happening, from Broadway in NYC to art hubs across the state and festivals celebrating everything from autumn foliage in the Hudson Valley to winter sports in Lake Placid. The blend of different lifestyles and cultures is incredible, and New York's walkability and public transit make it even better. Coloradans definitely know how to keep the fun rolling! The state tops the charts for parks and recreation spending. But that's just the start. Colorado boasts some of the coolest "biggest and highest" records, like the Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-top mountain, and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest railway train globally. Plus, the Eisenhower Tunnel is the highest auto tunnel in North America, and Glenwood Springs has the world's largest natural hot springs pool. Not to mention, Denver's Colfax Avenue is the longest continuous street in the country! Illinois is a gem with its serene natural beauty and vibrant city life. Enjoy miles of Lake Michigan's shoreline, hidden waterfalls in Shawnee National Forest, and stunning fall foliage. But the real excitement is in Chicago—sports, entertainment, dining, and nightlife. You can also explore Starved Rock State Park, visit Lincoln's Springfield home, catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, and check out local museums and festivals. Illinois is all about outdoor fun, too, with boating, golfing, and regional fairs, parades, and events in nearly every town. Plus, midwestern people are known for being friendly, hardworking, and full of spirit! They say, "Everything's bigger in Texas," and fun is no exception. Houston is like Texas' New York, bustling with energy, while Austin, with its tech scene, gives off major San Francisco vibes. Texas has been the backdrop for iconic films like Dazed & Confused and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In addition to the world-renowned South by Southwest music and arts festival, Austin boasts over 250 live music venues where the tunes never stop. Want to be part of something really out of this world? NASA is based in Texas! You can tour the Houston Space Center and see where real astronauts train! You might've heard it rains nonstop in Washington, but who says you need sunshine to have fun? This Pacific Northwest gem has incredible seafood, cultural attractions, and stunning scenery. From its impressive volcanoes and 3,000 glaciers to its 157 miles of Pacific coastline, Washington offers epic storm watching and whale spotting in the Salish Sea. If you're into basketball, Spokane's Hoopfest is the world's largest three-on-three outdoor tournament. Don't miss the Original Starbucks at Pike Place Market in Seattle, where it all began in 1971! If you're tired of the same old crowded beach vacations, try exploring Minnesota's crystal-clear lakes! You can kayak through scenic forests or even hike through the ever-wide Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. For those who love a bustling metropolis, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul have world-class museums and music, with great local restaurants and parks, too. The Midsommar Festival celebrates Swedish culture with traditional music, dancing, and food. And don't forget the iconic Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the United States, with an indoor amusement park, aquarium, miniature golf course, and over 520 stores! Unless you've been under a rock, you've probably heard of New Orleans' larger-than-life Mardi Gras—the ultimate celebration of "Fat Tuesday." It's an explosion of culture, with drinking, parties, king cakes, parades, costumes, and more–you really can't get more fun than that! But Louisiana is also a foodie paradise, with everything from Lafayette's pork boudin to New Orleans' famous beignets–fried French pastries with a donut-like texture dusted with powdered sugar. You can explore New Orleans' unique French Quarter, antebellum mansions, and rich Jazz music scene. If you love the outdoors, Louisiana's bayous, swamps, and forests offer fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing. Read more: 10 of the Most Fun Cities in the U.S., According to a New Study Don't sleep on Arizona! It might have a retiree's reputation, but this state has warm weather year-round and endless outdoor adventures. One of the funnest trips I've had was tubing down the Colorado River in the summer in Arizona with a drink in my hand, blasting music out of my Bluetooth speaker in my waterproof bag. You have plenty of options when it comes to fun, including hiking the Grand Canyon or hitting the slopes. That's right, in Northern Arizona, you can go skiing and snow-shoeing outside of Flagstaff. Arizona boasts 22 national parks, over 100 wineries, 75+ craft breweries, and 50 James Beard-nominated chefs and restaurants. If you visit this southwest state, check out Room 4 Bar in Bisbee, the second smallest bar in America, or the Nellie Bly Kaleidoscopes store in Jerome, the world's largest kaleidoscope store. Read more: 10 of the Most Boring States in the U.S., According to a New Study No matter where you live in Oregon, the state is stunning. Its volcanic peaks, craggy, windswept beaches, and vast deserts offer endless outdoor adventures. The rugged Oregon Coast features dramatic rock formations, historic lighthouses, and America's largest coastal sand dunes. Want to know the coolest part? Oregonians' strong environmental values mean the state has one of the lowest carbon footprints around. And if you're a wine lover, you'll be in heaven—Oregon is the fourth-largest wine producer in the country, with the Willamette Valley alone home to over 550 wineries!

Katy Perry song surges despite Blue Origin space trip criticism
Katy Perry 's music experienced a slight boost this week despite the criticism she's received for being a glorified space tourist whose 11-minute 'joyride for the super-rich' on Monday left a significant carbon footprint here on planet Earth. The 40-year-old pop star's 2011 hit Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) just landed the No. #142 spot with 1.4M total streams on the Global Spotify chart - according to Pop Base 's X account. Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) - produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin - marked Katy's sixth number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 when it was originally released. Marc Klasfeld's eight-minute music video featured cameos from Corey Feldman, Debbie Gibson, Darren Criss, Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Hanson, and Kevin McHale. Perry - who's amassed 115B streams in her 24-year career - averages 60.5M monthly listeners on the popular, subscription-only Swedish music-streaming platform. The 13-time Grammy nominee is 'still processing this incredible journey' on Blue Origin 's New Shepard NS-31 mission during which she experienced three-four minutes of weightlessness at the Kármán line (62 miles above Earth). The six-person all-female crew also included NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez. Blue Origin spokesperson Bill Kircos told CNN on Monday that 'some passengers' flew 'free of charge' while others shelled out the refundable deposit of $150K normally required to start the process of reserving a seat. Katy (born Katheryn Hudson) was supported on the ground in West Texas by her fiancé of six years, Orlando Bloom, and their four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom making her public debut. 'My mama!' the cherubic child - sporting a NASA suit - exclaimed as she watched Perry ascend toward space at more than three times the speed of sound. 'Daisy is her life, and she is so protective of her but it was time to introduce her to the world,' an insider exclusively told 'This was the perfect way to let the world see her.' The source continued: 'They had to acknowledge that something could go wrong. If it did, Daisy would have been traumatized. Ultimately, Jeff was able to convince them that the risk was incredibly low.' The former American Idol judge told reporters on Monday: 'I'm full up from being able to get that gift of being a mom and go to space is incredible and I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness.' Katy is next scheduled to kick off her 84-date The Lifetimes Tour with a three-night stand at Arena CDMX in Mexico City spanning April 23, 25, and 26. Perry - who's amassed 115B streams in her 24-year career - averages 60.5M monthly listeners on the popular, subscription-only Swedish music-streaming platform The 13-time Grammy nominee is 'still processing this incredible journey' on Blue Origin's New Shepard NS-31 mission during which she experienced three-four minutes of weightlessness at the Kármán line (62 miles above Earth) 'I last toured in 2017 and now I have a four-year-old [daughter Daisy Dove Bloom], so this time will be a bit different,' Perry said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January. 'It will be [her first time around the world]. She's not going to go everywhere! But what I've decided is... I used to start my shows around 9/9:15 maybe a little bit 9:30 and I was a punisher! 'I'm going to start these shows at 8:30 cause I now understand that bedtime takes over an hour-and-a-half. I'm going to be considering all mothers around the world and fathers too.' It marks the Kamala Harris supporter's first tour in seven years in support of her dismally-reviewed seventh studio album 143 featuring the tone-deaf feminist anthem, Woman's World. Katy was reportedly contractually-obliged to work with producer Dr. Luke, whose nine-year legal battle against Kesha involved sexual assault allegations (which he denied).
