This Action-Packed Spy Thriller Remake Is The Top Movie On Hulu Right Now

'The Amateur,' starring Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne, is the No. 1 movie on Hulu after hitting the streamer on July 17. The espionage thriller follows a highly intelligent CIA operative (Malek) whose world flips upside down when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to intervene, he takes it upon himself to track down the perpetrators for a dangerous mission across the globe. The James Hawes-directed film, a remake of the 1982 movie based on Robert Littell's novel of the same name, hit theaters back in April. It also stars Jon Bernthal, Julianne Nicholson, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Adrian Martinez and Danny Sapani. 'Brick' One of the top movies on Netflix right now is a German thriller about a mysterious brick wall. 'Brick,' written and directed by Philip Koch, centers on residents of a building who get trapped in their apartment after strange black bricks block every possible exit. The movie premiered on Netflix on July 10. 'Man of Steel' The arrival of a new Superman movie has renewed interest in an old one that's currently trending on HBO Max. 'Man of Steel,' which premiered in 2013, tells the origin story of Clark Kent, a superpowered alien who assumes the role of mankind's protector when the fate of humanity is threatened. The movie stars Henry Cavill as Superman, alongside Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon and Diane Lane. 'Uncharted' Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's 'Uncharted' is currently trending on Prime Video. The action flick, based on the popular PlayStation video game, follows a street-smart thief who gets recruited by a seasoned treasure hunter to recover a 500-year-old lost fortune. Exclusive: Watch Thrilling Clips From Rami Malek's 'The Amateur'

If you missed the action thriller The Amateur, you've missed one of the best espionage movies of the year. But, there's good news: The Amateur just hit streaming on Hulu (and Disney+ with Hulu), meaning there's really no reason why you can't fire it up right now. And, to give you a taste of what this movie is like, Men's Journal is pleased to present some exclusive clips from the movie, as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast. The Amateur is all about a CIA code-breaker named Charlie Heller (Rami Malek), whose wife Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan) is killed in a terrorist attack, sending Charlie on a mission for revenge. His mentor in all of this is a Hendo (Laurence Fishburne) who helps Charlie transition from a cryptologist to a badass field agent. Here's some exclusive clips from the movie, plus interviews with the cast. A veteran of James Bond, Malek mentions that this film has elements of The Fugitive as well as the 1975 Robert Redford classic, Three Days of the Condor, also about a cryptologist going on the run in a massive spy story. Elsewhere in the interviews, Malek's co-star, Caitríona Balfe, mentions that she also "likes the Bournes," and in terms of appreciating this movie, "I do like a bit of James Bond." In the film, Balfe plays a super cool agent named Inquiline, who is Charlie's contact throughout the movie. The actor, known for his roles in films such as The Matrix, John Wick, and Boyz N the Hood, will join other big names at the convention in Newport. The main attraction is always the star guests, and this year, apart from Fishburne, attendees will get to meet the likes of Billie Piper, Misha Collins, Christian Serratos, Michelle Gomez, and Peggy, also known as Dogpool. With 25 celebrities set to visit the event, fans will have plenty to look forward to. Rami Malek Spy Thriller ‘The Amateur' Gets Digital Streaming Date

Rated R, The Amateur opened in theaters on April 11. The summary for The Amateur reads, 'Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. 'When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.' Directed by James Hawes, The Amateur also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez and Danny Sapani. The Amateur will be released on streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, June 10, 20th Century Studios announced on Tuesday. The digital purchase and rental prices have not yet been announced, but new films released on PVOD generally cost anywhere between $19.99 to $29.99 to purchase and $14.99 to $24.99 to rent for 48 hours. The Amateur will be available on a variety of digital platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. The Amateur earned $40.7 million in North American theaters and $55 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $95.7 million against a $60 million budget before prints and advertising costs. The Amateur also received a 60% 'fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 177 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, 'Rami Malek is a compellingly unconventional action hero in the otherwise formulaic The Amateur, which dispenses justice with solid execution but a curious lack of emotional stakes.' The film also received an 88% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter. The audience summary for the film on RT reads, 'Jason Bourne goes geek, The Amateur proves that heart and a good cast can elevate a seen-before premise into an action-packed, thrilling ride.' The Amateur arrives on PVOD on June 10.
