Jack Black Has A New Biggest Hit Single

Jack Black's 'Lava Chicken' jumps to No. 11 on the Official Singles chart, becoming his ... More highest-charting hit in the U.K. across four major rankings. CLEVELAND, OHIO - OCTOBER 19: Jack Black speaks onstage during the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony streaming on Disney+ at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on October 19, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo byfor The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) Jack Black is on one of the best winning streaks of any entertainer in Hollywood at the moment. This year, his A Minecraft Movie is already one of the biggest successes at the box office, and it is far from done bringing in money. In addition to the film itself, the soundtrack is performing well, especially its standout tune, which has become not just a breakout from the project, but an actual hit. The track continues to rise week after week on rankings around the world and has now become a career high point for the sometimes-actor, sometimes-musician. 'Steve's Lava Chicken,' which is featured prominently throughout A Minecraft Movie, appears on four charts in the U.K. this week. It climbs on each and every one of them — in some instances, by just a few spots and in other cases, by leaps and bounds. In fact, on one tally, it surges by more than 50 spaces, pushing past half of all the titles on that list as it becomes a true bestseller. Black's comedic 'Steve's Lava Chicken' is now a top 20 hit on all four of the rankings on which it appears. It rises highest on the Official Singles chart, which is the most important and competitive songs tally in the country. On that list, it jumps from No. 21 to No. 11, and next week, it may very well become one of the 10 most popular tunes in the nation. It also sits close to the upper region on the Official Singles Downloads chart (No. 13), as well as both the Official Singles Sales and Official Streaming rankings (No. 14 on each). Black has only scored two solo hits on all four of these charts. He first reached the rankings in mid-2023 with 'Peaches.' That tune followed a similar path as 'Steve's Lava Chicken,' as both were featured in largely animated Hollywood blockbusters that star the actor. As recently as a few days ago, 'Peaches' was still ahead of 'Steve's Lava Chicken' in terms of peak position on at least one roster — but now the newer cut has become Black's highest-rising win on each and every tally. A Minecraft Movie has already brought in more than $800 million at the global box office. It's the second highest-grossing film of 2025, though it trails the leader, Ne Zha 2, by a full billion dollars. Still, it's far ahead of the third-biggest success, Captain America: A Brave New World, which earned a little more than $400 million during its run.

Jack Black hits the Billboard charts with A Minecraft Movie ditty

American actor Jack Black made a surprise return to the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of May 3 with another unlikely song from a video game movie: Steve's Lava Chicken, a 34-second song from the hit adventure comedy film A Minecraft Movie (2025), based on the popular video game Minecraft. The song entered the chart at 78, fuelled by its popularity on short video platform TikTok, where it has been used in more than 280,000 videos. On Spotify, the song has racked up nearly 22 million streams. Steve's Lava Chicken is the 55-year-old's second Hot 100 hit from a video game-themed movie. In April 2023 his song Peaches, from The Super Mario Bros. Movie that year, peaked at 56 on the chart, according to Billboard. What makes Steve's Lava Chicken so unusual is its length: It is just 34 seconds, which Billboard said set a record as the shortest song in the chart's 67-year history. It is nearly three minutes shorter than the average length of last year's No. 1 hits, according to Hits Songs Deconstructed, a company that provides analysis of hit songs. Black, a movie star known for playing quirky characters, is also a musician. He appeared in School Of Rock (2003), a film about a failed rock star who pretends to be a substitute teacher, and lampooned heavy metal with the comedy-rock duo Tenacious D, alongside Kyle Gass. A Minecraft Movie, co-starring Black and Jason Momoa, was released more than three weeks ago and has earned over US$800 million (S$1.05 billion) globally at the box office. Warner Bros. Pictures wants to cash in on the craze – and people who want to shout 'I am Steve' and 'Chicken jockey.' The studio announced that it would host a 'block party' on May 2 at participating theatres where fans can embrace the film by singing or meme-ing along to their favourite songs and scenes.
