SPD lieutenant tapped to carry Special Olympics ‘Flame of Hope'
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Shreveport Police Lieutenant Diana Sanchez has been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics for two decades, and in just days, she'll serve the organization by carrying the 'Flame of Hope' to the games in Turin, Italy.
Lt. Sanchez was chosen to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run® Final Leg for the Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Torch Run® Final Leg begins on March 1, and ends on March 8. During that time the 'Flame of Hope' will pass through several Italian cities before arriving in Turin for the Opening Ceremony at the Inalpi Arena on March 8.

Shreveport Police say Lt. Sanchez will serve as a Guardian of the Flame®, carrying the Flame of Hope alongside law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes worldwide.
According to the Special Olympics website, the 'Flame of Hope' was lit in a ceremony at the historic Zappeion Megaron in Athens, Greece, on February 25. The Special Olympics World Winter Games will occur between March 8 -15.
One thousand five hundred athletes will compete in eight winter sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, Dance Sports, figure skating, floorball, short-track speed skating, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
