Rajah Caruth wins NASCAR Truck race at Nashville in tense finish

Rajah Caruth has earned his first victory of the 2025 season and just the second of his career, fending off both Corey Heim and Layne Riggs in the closing laps at Nashville. Driving the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, Caruth grabbed the lead on pit road at the end of the second stage. The driver made the most of what his pit crew did for him, never surrendering the race lead. Advertisement "I didn't expect that at all," said Caruth. "Those guys were breathing down my neck the whole run. My pit crew won that race -- Jarius, Zico, Dawson, Josh, Cody -- they won that race for us. Thanks to them, thanks to everyone at the men and women at Spire Motorsports. We've been off this year but good to get a dub tonight, man. I'm out of breath." Heim is the winningest driver of the 2025 season with four wins in the first 11 races, including last weekend's event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Speaking on the runner-up finish at Nashville, he said, "I feel like clean air was the thing (we needed) tonight. With the third stage being so straightforward, and the lack of strategy going green there, it was tough to come back from not having the lead. I slid through my box in the last stop and didn't do my guys any favors. Just something to reflect on -- on my part. "But big congrats to Rajah. He did an awesome job managing from the lead and I was really free behind him and he made pretty much the right choice every time as for where I was gonna go. It's nice racing against people that aren't going to wreck you, racing for the race lead." Layne Riggs finished a close third with Daniel Hemric fourth and Corey Day fifth. Kaden Honeycutt, Chandler Smith, Ty Majeski, Bayley Currey, and Grant Enfinger filled out the remainder of the top ten. The only on-track accident occurred on Lap 55 when Jack Wood and Akinori Ogata spun. Riggs went on to win the opening stage while Heim claimed the Stage 2 win, adding another playoff point to his impressive total. While Caruth never lost the lead in the final 47-lap run, Heim certainly came close as he got to the outside of him with just six laps to go. Caruth ran him high and Heim chose to lift. From that point onward, he had his hands full with Riggs in the battle for second and never got back alongside Caruth. Chandler Smith was able to maneuver around Riggs and took home the victory. Riggs finished in second place. Heim delivered a message to Riggs after the race. "Calm down or else I'm going to take care of you," he said. Needless to say, Heim was upset with how Riggs raced him and confronted him about it once everyone was back on pit road. Heim called Riggs' decision on the final lap "scum racing." "Just why? More than anything. He tried to do it to the 7 (Carson Hocevar) last week for the win, and mission accomplished for him," Heim said, via "I guess, this week – and it cost him one, too. I don't know. We've given up so many of them this year after dominating the race. The 38 (Smith) was the only other guy that was rightfully good. Just struggled being loose on the short runs, and he had an opportunity, and he wrecked me. Just disappointed." Riggs defended his "strong move." "If I have a reputation of going for wins, I'm not going to regret that at all," Riggs said. "You know, I feel like I came from short-track racing, last-lap battles, and feel like that's what this kind of racing is made for. I feel like it's not like we've seen at Martinsville in the past, and gotten upset. I feel like it was a strong move, and I thought it was going to pay off. "But sadly, didn't get the win." NASCAR Truck Driver Layne Riggs Slams Martinsville: 'I Hate This Racetrack'

Layne Riggs is one of the top young drivers in the NASCAR Truck Series. The 23-year-old recorded his first two career wins in 2024 at Milwaukee and Bristol and won Rookie of the Year honors. In 2025, he's already scored a pair of top fives through the season's first five races. On Friday night at Martinsville, the Front Row Motorsports driver finished 11th and earned it. That's because he was spun out early in the race on Lap 24. Advertisement After the race on the half-mile track, the No. 34 driver didn't sugarcoat what he thought of the incident and the overall racing at The Paper Clip. Layne Riggs before NASCAR Truck Series championship at Phoenix J. Rebilas-Imagn Images 'I said it earlier. I'm a short track guy and I love short track racing,' Riggs told a reporter after the race. 'But I hate this racetrack in a national series level. It's really sad when the late model race here is the cleanest one there is. 'It's just so crazy in the Truck series. You're doing everything right. You're running your right line. You're running the bottom, protecting the bottom like you should be and then the guy that's five back hits him, he hits him, he hits him, he hits him, and then you get hit, and then you get spun around. It's like, who do you even get mad at at that point? 'And then you know, you're doing everything right. It's just really annoying.' Advertisement Riggs and his fellow Truck Series competitors have a week off. The trucks return to action on another short track at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 11. Race coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1. Related: Frankie Muniz Sends Strong Message to Rival Drivers After NASCAR Truck Series Crash
