California rattled by multiple earthquakes in just a matter of hours
Northern California was jolted early this morning as multiple earthquakes struck within a short time frame.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected five tremors, with magnitudes ranging from 2.6 to 4.0, close to Clearlake and Laytonville.
The first tremor hit at 1:51am ET, with the latest striking at 8:51am ET.
A cluster of four earthquakes hit 72 miles north of San Francisco, which occurred near the San Andreas Fault, which spans 800 miles from Cape Mendocino in the north to the Salton Sea in the south.
Scientists warn this fault is overdue for a 'Big One,' a magnitude 7.8 earthquake or higher.
This is a developing story... More updates to come.
