Father savagely stabbed in head while protecting his family as machete-wielding gang storms family home in Melbourne
A father has been stabbed in the head and face after five masked intruders, including one armed with a machete, stormed his family home in one of Melbourne's richest suburbs. The 39-year-old man and his wife were asleep in their Kew East property when, just after 4am, a gang of thugs allegedly forced their way into the Oxford Street home and dragged the terrified couple into separate rooms. The father 'put up a fight' when he confronted the intruders, while the grandparents were also injured after trying to come to his aid. 'The husband was then stabbed multiple times to the head, face and arms,' Victoria Police said. The mother was forced into the bedroom where her two young children were still in bed, while her husband was brutally attacked, with the intruders allegedly warning her not to step outside. The father, left bleeding from horrific stab wounds, was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His wife was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises. Miraculously, the couple's two toddlers, just two and three years old, were not harmed during the terrifying ordeal. The grandparents, aged 69 and 70, were also caught up in the chaos and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth adult in the house escaped without physical harm. Four of the masked offenders fled in the victim's luxury BMW, while a fifth escaped in the car they had arrived in. The stolen BMW was later dumped on Christie Street in Deer Park, where police quickly tracked down three of the alleged attackers on nearby Hamilton Street. A 24-year-old man and two teenagers, aged just 16 and 17, were charged with a string of offences, including aggravated home invasion, intentionally causing serious injury, and false imprisonment. Two other suspects remain on the run. Boroondara Detective Sergeant Leanne Trussler was left shocked by the attacks. 'I've never seen anything like this,' she said. 'This is awful, a family, two adults, two children aged two and three, and the grandparents are sleeping in their home at nearly 4 o'clock in the morning. 'The house is secure, they're meant to be safe, and they've woken up and been treated like this. 'It's their home, or their castle, as they say. You should be safe, you shouldn't be disrespected in your home and having people come in at that time of night and doing that to your family.' She said the 39-year-old victim remained in hospital and would require surgery. 'He has a fractured left arm, he has a number of cuts all over his face and he is going to need surgery on his eye,' Detective Sergeant Trussler said.

A father has been left with serious injuries after he was stabbed in the head and face during a brutal home invasion in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 39-year-old man and his 34-year-old wife were asleep in their Kew East home when they were awoken at about 4am by the sound of a large window being smashed. A group of five unknown offenders – one armed with a machete – allegedly entered the Oxford Street property and confronted the couple, separating them into different rooms. 'The woman was put into the room where her two children were still in bed,' Victoria Police said in a statement. 'The husband was then stabbed multiple times to the head, face and arms.' Four of the intruders then got into the victim's BMW while a fifth left in the vehicle the group had arrived in. The 39-year old man was transported to hospital with serious but non but non-life-threatening injuries while his wife was treated at the house for minor injuries. The couple's two children, aged 2 and 3, were not physically injured. However two grandparents, aged 69 and 70, who were also in the house at the time were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Herald Sun reported that the father had 'put up a fight' when he found the intruders, and the grandparents were harmed when they attempted to come to his aid. The Victoria Police spokeswoman said the 39-year-old father was currently in and would need surgery. 'He has a fractured left arm, he has a number of cuts all over his face and he is going to need surgery on his eye,' Detective Trussler said. 'The grandparents have also been assessed by doctors and released.' Victoria Police located the stolen BMW approximately 30 km away in Deer Park and three offenders were arrested a short time later in nearby Hamilton Street. Among those arrested were two teens, aged 16 and 17, and a 24-year-old Caroline Springs man. Police are continuing to search for the other offenders. Man stabbed in head after terrifying Kew home invasion
A family has been terrorised in a frightening home invasion in Kew on Saturday night, with a man in hospital after being stabbed in the head, face and arms, and two offenders still on the run. Five offenders, including one with a machete, allegedly broke into the Oxford Street home by smashing a large window at around 4am, which woke up the man and his wife. The couple were confronted by the group and placed in separate rooms. The father, who is said to have out up a fight, faces a long road to recovery after being stabbed in the head, face and arms. The mother, who was sleeping with her two children in a separate room, was told to not come outside while the offenders attacked the man. The offenders then fled the scene, with four driving off in the family's BMW while the fifth fled in the vehicle the group had arrived in. The BMW was found in Deer Park a short time later on Christie Street, and three of the alleged attackers were located nearby on Hamilton Street by police. A 17-year-old boy, a 24-year-old Caroline Springs man and a 16-year-old boy are currently being interviewed as police continue to search for the other offenders. The 39-year-old father was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while his 34-year-old wife sustained minor injuries. Two other adults aged 69 and 70 years old who were in the house at the time were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two children, aged two and three years old, and the fifth adult were not injured. One neighbour who called the police said she woke to a loud sound like glass breaking before hearing screaming and a man's voice yell: 'I am going to kill you.' The neighbour said from the glass breaking to the BMW speeding off was no more than a few minutes, with them also spotting one offender flee on foot through a nearby park. 'It was terrifying,' they said. 'I thought maybe like (the) toddler was awake (and had) woken up the couple and it was just like a baby crying. 'But then I heard the male voices and the contents of what they were saying.' One neighbour has lived on Oxford Street for the past 20 years and said it has been nothing but 'peaceful'. He said he was shocked to hear of the event and says the whole ordeal was 'very scary'. Boroondara Detective Sergeant Leanne Trussler was visibly angry as she spoke about the incident out the front of the station on Sunday afternoon. 'I've never seen anything like this,' she said. 'This is awful, a family, two adults, two children aged 2 and 3 and the grandparents are sleeping their home at nearly 4 o'clock in the morning, the house is secure, they're meant to be safe, and they woken up and been treated like this. 'It's their home, or their castle as they say. You should be safe, you shouldn't be disrespected in your home and having people come in at that time of night and doing that to your family. 'I don't know how I'd be if that was my family.' Det Sgt Trussler said the man had a long recovery in front of him, with at least one of the offenders armed with a machete. 'He is currently in hospital,' she said. 'He has a fractured left arm, he has a number of cuts all over his face and he is going to need surgery on his eye. 'The grandparents have also been assessed by doctors and released.' It is believed the father 'put up a fight' when he found the intruders, and the grandparents were harmed when they attempted to come to his aid. The mother who was sleeping in the bedroom with the two children also came out, where she was confronted by one of the alleged offenders with a knife and told to go back inside. The three offenders have been unhelpful with the investigation and a likely to soon be charged. They were apprehended after crashing the stolen BMW into another car in Deer Park. Det Sgt Trussler said it was just a matter of time before the other two offender were located. 'We'll find them,' she said. 'If you're their family and they going around doing that to other families, my strongest suggestion would be to bring them in, get it dealt with. 'I don't know what's going to happen. This has got to stop. Somebody's going to be seriously injured... now someone has been seriously injured. It's beyond a joke.' Member for Kew, Jess Wilson said it was time for the Allan government to wake up, with Victorians living on edge. 'Every Victorian has the right to feel safe in their own home — but that right is being eroded under the Allan Labor Government's watch,' she said. 'Crime is rising and too many families in our community are paying the price for the Premier's failure to take leadership and keep Victorians safe. 'Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we wish the family a full and speedy recovery. But thoughts are not enough - it's time the government took real action to keep Victorians safe.'
