‘Game changer', ‘historic': AAP switches to social media to defend land pooling scheme
Jalandhar: As farm groups, opposition and other organisations continue to mobilise against the Punjab govt's land pooling policy, the AAP launched an aggressive social media campaign to justify and promote the initiative while claiming that farmers were happily giving their land for it.
However, pro-farm social media accounts and several other Punjabi netizens have also launched a counter-offensive.
AAP launched the campaign on Thursday, claiming that Punjab farmers were happy about the policy. AAP's ministers and MLAs posted content on their social media accounts, which claimed that Punjab farmers were "embracing" the land pooling policy. They described the policy as "rewriting history" and the future, a "big shift", a "huge win for Punjab farmers," a "game changer," and used other strong adjectives in support of the policy.
AAP's social media accounts at the national level and in other states also spread the message that Punjab farmers were happy about this "historic" initiative. "Punjab farmers are happily giving their land for the land pooling policy of the AAP govt. The policy of the Bhagwant Mann govt is in favour of farmers; opposition and builders are opposing it as they fear damage to themselves," posted AAP on its national X account.

AAP also posted videos claiming that it was the builders who were unhappy about the policy and opposing it, while the farmers were supporting and embracing it. Several Punjabi activists and netizens have already been opposing the land pooling policy, and after AAP's campaign, they also hit back with a counter-narrative.
The prominent pro-farm social media account, "Tractor 2 Twitter" on Thursday evening posted that AAP ministers and MLAs were posting as per the 'toolkit' directions. They even posted a screenshot of health minister Dr Balbir Singh, which said, "Kindly post this video on your Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages…thank you," taking a dig that he hurriedly posted the 'tool-kit message'.
