PSG Beats Tottenham on Penalties To Win UEFA Super Cup After Late Comeback
Paris Saint-Germain beat Tottenham 4-3 on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, completing a remarkable rally after scoring two late goals to take the match to a shootout. It secured a fifth trophy of 2025 for the French club. Lee Kang-in scored in the 85th for PSG and fellow substitute Gonçalo Ramos grabbed an equalizer in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2 in regulation. Nuno Mendes converted the clinching penalty in the shootout for PSG. The Super Cup is an annual early-season match between the most recent winners of the Champions League (PSG) and Europa League (Tottenham), and it was hardly going to script when the English club took a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Defenders popped up with Spurs' goals, with Micky van de Ven showing quick reactions to prod home the opener in the 39th minute after new PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier tipped Joao Palhinha's shot onto the crossbar. Chevalier — playing ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who announced Tuesday he was leaving PSG — might have been unlucky with the first goal but was to blame for the second after failing to keep out a header from newly appointed Tottenham captain Cristian Romero in the 48th. Tottenham is further along in its preparations for the new campaign than PSG, whose players have only just returned to training after being involved in the Club World Cup until mid-July, and looked much sharper at Stadio Friuli. PSG finished strongly, though, and hit Tottenham with late goals as Lee smashed in a low shot from the edge of the area and Ramos headed home Ousmane Dembélé's right-wing cross. In the shootout, Vitinha missed PSG's first attempt, but the French team then converted four in a row. Van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed to score for Tottenham, whose manager, Thomas Frank, was taking charge of his first competitive match with the Premier League team. Frank took over in the offseason following the firing of Ange Postecoglou, who led Tottenham to its first trophy in 17 years with a victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. PSG completed the Champions League-Ligue 1-Coupe de France treble last season, also winning the Trophee des Champions in January. The team lost the Club World Cup final to Chelsea. Premier League clubs showing interest in PSG's Lee Kang-in
According to a report from RMC Sport, Premier League clubs are showing an interest in signing Lee Kang-in (24) during the summer transfer window. The South Korean international attacking midfielder is one of the players Les Parisiens are willing to listen to offers for in the remainder of the window. Lee was a difference-maker for PSG in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. The former Mallorca playmaker was a second-half substitute but scored a brilliant goal from long distance to reduce the deficit, before the Gonçalo Ramos equalised and the UEFA Champions League winners won on penalties. Ready to replace Lee PSG are now focusing on sales after securing the arrivals of Lucas Chevalier (23) and Illia Zabarnyi (22). The 24-year-old is one of the players up for sale, and the Ligue 1 champions would look to replace the attacking midfielder should he be sold. GFFN | Liam Wraith

The managers to win the UEFA Super Cup with different clubs
Luis Enrique has led Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA Super Cup success after his side beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties. PSG required a late comeback to force a shootout in the clash, recovering from two goals down. The European champions trailed 2-0 until the 85th minute, after Spurs struck first through Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Lee Kang-in's goal pulled one back for PSG before a stoppage-time strike from Goncalo Ramos took the tie to penalties. PSG missed first in the shootout when Vitinha missed the target, but new signing Lucas Chevalier saved from Van de Ven. After Mathys Tel missed for Spurs, Nuno Mendes fired home a winner to seal success for PSG. It's a fifth trophy of the calendar year for PSG, while Enrique has now joined an exclusive group of managers. PSG Beats Tottenham in Penalty Shootout to Win UEFA Super Cup after Late Rally
Paris Saint-Germain produced a dramatic late rally before beating Tottenham in a penalty shootout to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, securing a fifth trophy of 2025 for the French club. Nuno Mendes converted the clinching spot kick in the shootout to complete a PSG comeback that looked unlikely when Tottenham held a 2-0 lead in the 85th minute of regulation in the annual match between the most recent winners of the Champions League and Europa League. Lee Kang-in gave PSG hope by reducing the deficit with a fierce shot into the bottom corner and fellow substitute Gonçalo Ramos grabbed an equalizer in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2 at Stadio Friuli in Udine. Even then, Tottenham moved into position to pull off an upset by taking a 2-0 lead in the shootout after Vitinha's first-up miss for PSG. However, Micky van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed from the spot for Spurs and PSG scored four penalties in a row, the last of which was slammed home by Mendes. 'Sometimes football is unfair,' PSG coach Luis Enrique said, according to The Associated Press. 'I have to say we were very lucky in the last 10 minutes that we could score two goals.' PSG won the Champions League-Ligue 1-Coupe de France treble last season, along with the Trophee des Champions in January. The only blip came in last month's defeat to Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup, a competition which extended PSG's 2024-25 season into mid-July. Luis Enrique said PSG's players had only been back in training for six days and took time to get into their stride. 'My players had faith until the last minute, like our supporters,' he said. Turbulent debut for Chevalier It was quite the debut for Lucas Chevalier, a goalkeeper who has just joined from Lille and taken over as first choice at PSG from Gianluigi Donnarumma — regarded by many as the world's best goalie. Chevalier was unlucky in conceding Tottenham's opening goal in the 39th, tipping Joao Palhinha's shot onto the crossbar only for Van de Ven to show quick reactions and prod home. He was to blame, though, for the second after failing to keep out a header from newly appointed Tottenham captain Cristian Romero in the 48th. Chevalier finished the evening by saving a penalty by Van de Ven in the shootout, a match tiebreaker in which Donnarumma often thrives. The Italian might have been watching from home, having not traveled to Italy on Tuesday before announcing he'd be leaving PSG. 'I'm very happy for him because he showed a lot of personality,' Luis Enrique said of Chevalier. Heartbreak for Frank Thomas Frank was taking charge of his first competitive match at Tottenham after replacing the fired Ange Postecoglou, who led the team to its first trophy in 17 years with a victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. The former Brentford manager almost had a trophy to take home, with Tottenham initially outsmarting PSG and showing clearly it is further along in its preparations for the new campaign compared to PSG. PSG belatedly discovered its sharpness and customary slickness and hit Tottenham with the late goals in regulation, the dramatic equalizer coming from Ramos when he headed home Ousmane Dembele's right-wing cross. Frank said Tottenham 'played almost perfectly.' 'The single result, 2-2, is good," Frank said. "If you look into the performance, the shift the players put in ... wow, what a mentality. "There are lots of things to be happy with. That needs to be the foundation going forward.'

PSG beat Tottenham on penalties to claim UEFA Super Cup

It secured the fifth trophy of 2025 for the French club. Lee Kang-in scored in the 85th for PSG, and fellow substitute Goncalo Ramos grabbed an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2 in regulation. Nuno Mendes converted the clinching penalty in the shootout for PSG. 'I am proud. We haven't [had] much preparation, but you could see that football is not only about the physical aspect – it is also about the mental aspect, being in the right place, having the right tactics,' PSG captain Marquinhos told broadcaster Canal Plus. 'They sat back a lot after going 2-0 up, and it is dangerous to invite PSG to come at you like that.' The Super Cup is an annual early-season match between the most recent winners of the Champions League (PSG) and Europa League (Tottenham), and it was hardly going to script when the English club took a 2-0 lead early in the second half. 'I think we played a very good game against one of the best teams in the world – maybe the best in this moment in time,' Frank told TNT Sports. 'I think we had them exactly where we wanted them for 80-something minutes until the 2-1 goal. Then, of course, that shifted a little bit the momentum, but there was so much positive. 'I am so proud of the team, the players, the club, the fans. I think there is a lot to be happy with. It is a flip of a coin when you go into a penalty shootout.' PSG completed the Champions League-Ligue 1-Coupe de France treble last season, also winning the Trophee des Champions in January. The team lost the Club World Cup final to Chelsea.
