The 8 best new London restaurant openings in August 2025

If this month's new openings are anything to go by, London remains in the pocket of Big Pizza. This August also sees the return of one of east London's most legendary pubs in a brand new (somewhat classier guise), as well as a beefy new brewery for Walthamstow. The best new London restaurants opening in August 2025 1. The big ticket Spanish spot Legado, Shoreditch Founder of Mayfair's turbo tapas joint Sabor, Nieves Barragán Mohacho, is set to open her second restaurant in league with the all-conquering JKS Restaurants. Legado – which translates to 'Legacy' – will serve up lesser-known regional Spanish dishes, and will also be home to La Taberna, an all-day bar and terrace where you can pick up pintxos, cava and sherry. 1C Montacute Yards, 185-186 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6HU Opening date: August 28 2. The return of an indie sleaze icon The Macbeth, Hoxton This pub will be extremely familiar to anyone who got drunk in London about 15 years ago. Formerly the site of grotty gigs, indie discos and nu-rave raves, the Macbeth is reopening as a Portuguese gastropub with Jamie Allan - formerly of Four Legs, who opened Finsbury Park's The Plimsoll and Tollington's – in charge alongside his good pal Patrick Nolan. 70 Hoxton Street, Hoxton, N1 6LP Opening date: August 13 3. Pizza! Bad Boy Pizzeria, Bethnal Green Another day, another London pizza parlour opens. After years of shifting their award-winning slices at Bad Boy Pizza Society pop-ups at Seven Dials Market, Vinegar Yard and the Railway Tavern in Tulse HIll, they have finally found their forever home in Bethnal Green. You'll be able to score everything from single slices to full pies, from NY-style to Sicilian squares, as well as sides such as chicken vodka parms, and deep fried burrata in spicy marinara. The drinks menu will feature BBPS's brand new house lager as well as wines, local beers and shots. 419 Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, E2 0AN Opening date: August 8 4. The big brewery 40ft Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow Say a jaunty little 'cheers!' to the Blackhorse Beer Mile's new arrival; Dalston's 40ft Brewery is opening up a brand new mega space. With 100 seats inside, and another 100 outside, the brewery will also have a dog park, food pop-ups and a regular roster of comedy nights, DJ sets and daytime events for kids. 40ft Blackhorse Road opens August 8 and a crowdfunder is running until the day before, which is offering a double money drinks credit to order to help support the new venue. Unit 10, Lockwood Way, Walthamstow, E17 5RB Opening date: August 8 5. More pizza! Berberè, Marylebone Alright, this is getting silly. There's yet more new pizza in London, this time courtesy of Berberè, sourdough specialists who already have locations in Clapham, Kentish Town and on Tottenham Court Road, as well as a whole host of spots in Italy (which is how you know they're good). Founded in Bologna in 2010, they've been voted 'world's 6th best artisan pizzeria' by 50 Top Pizza. Booze comes from wine guys Passione Vino, and beer pros Signature Brew. 50 James Street, Marylebone, W1U 1HB Opening date: August 4 6. The Michelin-star adjacent bar The Clove Club, Shoreditch Double Michelin star champ The Clove Club is getting into the holiday spirit by (re)launching its bar for the summer. You used to be able to swing by the front of the restaurant for snacky bits and drinks, so we're happy to see the return of this more affordable way to enjoy Isaac McHale's immaculate food, even if it is only for a few weeks. Expect warm crab dumplings, fish pakoras, chicken kebabs, Scottish tacos (pigs blood and buckwheat pancakes with pork jowl) and parmesan fries with Manjimup truffle. Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, Shoreditch, EC1V 9LT Opening date: Open now 7. Something for the weekend Dante, Islington A little bit French, a little bit Italian, Dante is a new Friday-to-Sunday pop-up kitchen from chef pals Louis Korovilas and Taylor Sessegnon-Shakespeare, who met while working at London's longest running Michelin star restaurant, Pied A Terre in Fitzrovia. The menu includes broadbean orzotto with glazed chicken wing, aubergine scarpece with clam bagna cauda and crispy palourde clams, beef carpaccio with oyster mayonnaise and baby artichokes and whole sucking pig belly for two. Islington Arts Club, 235 Upper Street, N1 1RU Opening date: August 1 8. Even more pizza! Dough Hands x Toklas Bakery, Temple Dough Hands makes the finest pizza in London and now you don't need to head to London Fields or Nunhead to try it. Toklas Bakery is hosting a two night pop-up collab with Dough Hands founder Hannah Drye on August 5 and 6, from 6pm until they sell out. There'll be white pie with Calabrian chilli and hot honey on offer, as well as pepperoni and pickled peppers, with wedge Caesar as well as tomato salad with tahini and salted ricotta on the side. Toklas will be providing passionfruit and coconut ice cream sandwiches for pudding. On August 7 Toklas Bakery will also see a pop-up visit from Stoke Newington's Sonora Taquería, with tacos, tortillas and tequila. 9 Surrey Street, Temple, WC2R 2ND

Legado: Michelin-starred Nieves Barragán to open new Spanish restaurant in Shoreditch

The latest high-profile restaurant to open in the new Shoreditch development under the Overground line is Legado, a new Spanish concept from Nieves Barragán Mohacho and JKS Restaurants. Legado, which means 'legacy', is next door to the new Singburi, while the Standard understands another big opening is planned nearby (we cannot say yet, but hold tight). Barragán is best known for her Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant Sabor, a multi-floor restaurant that spans Spain's regional cuisine. Legado, the Standard was told, 'is set to move beyond the familiar, allowing the wider ingredients, lesser-known dishes, regional culinary traditions and the Spanish artisans to take centre stage.' The 60-cover restaurant – with a further 16 at the counter – will serve tapas and pintxos that shine a light on specific producers, ingredients and Spanish traditions. Lamb, for example, will come from Lechazo de Castilla y León (an origin-protected producer), while suckling pig is to be sourced from the award-winning farm Tabladillo el Cochinillo in Segovia, a province north of Madrid, Fish will be treated much the same, with a menu that traverses Spanish coastlines. Dishes are to include crystal Mediterranean prawns with smoked paprika and Moscatel vinegar, and confit lobster with chilli and garlic served on a base of thinly sliced potatoes. Both will come topped with a runny fried egg. As for vegetarian dishes, the most interesting could be the 'Legado sandwich', made with Swiss chard, cecina, and smoked cheese fried in breadcrumbs, which Barragán remembers her grandmother making for her in the Basque region. 'Spain's food heritage is incredible and has rightly deserved recognition in London and globally,' she said. 'Its colours, tastes, and smells are rooted deeply within me. However, many dishes I love, I have never seen outside the country and want to bring them and even more to London.' As for wines, diners should expect a 150-bin list celebrating Spanish vintages, and 'seasonally changing vegetable and fruit-based cocktails served chilled but without ice.' There will be three-sip drinks, short drinks being the fashion in London right now. The restaurant will look Spanish and modern – think a colour palette of green, plaster pink and terracotta – with exposed brick, an open kitchen and lots of beautiful wood. Legado opens on August 28, 1C Montacute Yards, 185-186 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6HU,

Scotland's lawyers need to embrace the digital transformation

The Law Commission of England and Wales recently published final recommendations to modernise the Wills Act, including proposals to allow for the digital signing and witnessing of wills. While these changes do not apply in Scotland, they raise timely and relevant questions for the legal profession north of the Border. Scotland's succession law operates within a distinct legal framework, with its own rules around capacity, witnessing and execution. At present, there is no indication that equivalent reforms are imminent. However, the broader momentum around digital transformation in legal processes, particularly where client engagement and accessibility are concerned, is hard to ignore. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad These proposals are not simply about introducing new technology. They reflect a growing drive to reduce friction, simplify legacy planning, and align legal services with how people increasingly manage their affairs — securely, remotely, and on their own terms. Law firms that take steps now to modernise their approach will be better prepared to lead if and when the landscape shifts (Picture: Despite the fundamental importance of will-making, more than half of UK adults still do not have a will. The reasons vary, but a consistent barrier is the perception that the process is too formal, too complex, or not designed with modern life in mind. While legal reform in Scotland may not be imminent, client expectations are shifting across the UK. This presents a challenge as well as an opportunity for Scottish firms. Individuals increasingly expect the same clarity, flexibility and security from legal services that they experience in banking, healthcare and financial planning. Firms that can deliver that while still upholding legal rigour will be well placed to meet demand. Even without legislative change, Scottish firms are already improving the client journey by adopting digital infrastructure. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Platforms like Legado are being used by firms across the UK – including by Co-Op Legal Services, one of the largest providers of estate planning and probate services in the UK – to securely store and share documents, support encrypted client communications, and facilitate digital signing where appropriate. Josif Grace, CEO and Founder, Legado (Picture: Stewart Attwood) This infrastructure is not about replacing legal processes but reinforcing them. It gives professionals the ability to manage documents securely, trace actions clearly, and offer clients long-term visibility over their affairs. By embedding tools such as digital vaults, audit logs and identity verification into workflows, firms can increase both efficiency and trust. These enhancements support better client engagement and reduce the administrative burden, while maintaining the core legal safeguards that underpin the process of will-making. Scotland may not yet be pursuing the same legislative path as England and Wales, but the profession is still part of a wider shift in how legal services are delivered. The question is no longer just about legal reform. It is also about operational readiness and the experience clients receive. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad This moment provides space to reflect. Are our systems and processes keeping pace with the expectations of the people we serve? Firms that take steps now to modernise their approach will be better prepared to lead if and when the legal landscape shifts, and will deliver greater value to their clients in the meantime.
