Disgraced MP Gareth Ward to appeal sex crime conviction
Convicted sex offender Gareth Ward has confirmed he is seeking to appeal the verdict a week after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two young men. Ward said in a statement on Friday afternoon that he was "absolutely shattered" with the result of the trial and had been spending time with family. "I am taking advice about next steps, but I can confirm that I have provided instructions to my legal team to prepare an appeal at the earliest opportunity," the statement read. The Member for Kiama has made no mention of resigning despite calls to do so from political leaders on both sides. The 44-year-old was convicted of three counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse without consent, serious offences that carry the likelihood of a full-time custodial sentence. On Wednesday, Ward was taken into custody after a District Court judge granted a prosecution application to revoke his bail ahead of sentencing set for September 19. The Legislative Assembly is expected to consider a motion to expel Ward as its first order of business on Tuesday, following the MP's conviction. If the expulsion goes ahead, a by-election for the NSW south coast seat of Kiama could be called in as little as eight weeks.

South Korea investigators seek to arrest former president Yoon again
The special council questioned Yoon on Saturday over his resistance during a failed arrest attempt in January, as well as allegations that he authorised drones to fly to Pyongyang as a justification for declaring martial law. Yoon's legal team slammed the warrant as "excessive and unwarranted". "We have thoroughly refuted the allegations and demonstrated that, as a matter of law, no crime can be established," his legal team said in a statement. "The special counsel failed to present any objective evidence during the investigation, and even based on witness testimony, the charges do not hold," they added. Last week, the court dismissed an arrest warrant requested by the special counsel after Yoon initially refused to appear for questioning, citing that he had since expressed a willingness to comply with future summons.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Blake Lively fails in bid to keep Taylor Swift's texts from Justin Baldoni
A judge has denied Blake Lively's motion for a protective order to keep her communications with Taylor Swift regarding It Ends With Us out of Justin Baldoni's hands. In new documents obtained by People magazine, Judge Lewis J Liman denied the order on Wednesday. Baldoni's legal team previously subpoenaed Swift in the ongoing It Ends With Us lawsuit, although the subpoena was later withdrawn. Baldoni's defence then continued to allegedly "demand" access to records of Lively's communications with Swift. The new documents suggest that Baldoni's legal team alleges they have not received access to Swift's communications with Lively, which they now deem necessary to the lawsuit.
