John Brenkus, 'Sports Science' host, is mourned after death at age 54 John Brenkus, who was known for his terrific work on Sports Science on ESPN and Fox Sports Net, died on May 1, 2025 at the age of 54. According to a post on social media from his family: "It is with profound sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus has passed away." He had "been battling depression [and] lost his fight with this terrible illness." The statement went on to tell those struggling with depression to get help. Brenkus had been open about his battle, speaking about it with Marcellus Wiley in recent years. Brenkus won a total of six Emmys for his work on the segments that we all loved, showing the astounding science behind what our favorite athletes accomplished. And sometimes those very same athletes were guests who participated in all kinds of testing.
