Bay Area 8-year-old Lego builder advances to international competition

Legoland Discovery Center Bay Area in Milpitas just crowned the winner of the Bay Area's 2025 Mini Master Model Builder, and one talented eight-year-old inventor is moving forward to compete on a global scale. "You really can release your imagination through Legos, you can like build anything you want," Samuel Nudelman, the winner of the Bay Area competition, told CBS News Bay Area. He began building Lego sets when he was just about two years old. And now, he is the proud winner of this year's competition. Nudelman built a truck, with some innovative moving features. "It had like, some storage space. It was pretty good, though I only spent like two days building it," Nudelman said. He competed against about 60 other young Bay Area inventors. "He would talk about the names of the pieces, he was talking about the different sizes. And then we were talking history! I wasn't expecting history… he was talking about what the first Lego sets were," Lester Mendaros, Lego Master Model Builder at Legoland Discovery Center Bay Area, told CBS News Bay Area. Mendaros was one of the judges, and said he was impressed with Nudelman's expertise with Lego sets. Mendaros is now mentoring the eight-year-old inventor as he is now tasked with building a Lego that represents where he is from. "I'm building something even bigger than the truck," Nudelman said. For Mendaros, he said competitions like these help spark that creativity in the next generation of innovators. "It's really intuitive when you're putting things together, you don't have to really think too hard to put things together. There is a little bit of engineering, but your ideas can come in really quickly. There are so many colors, there are so many pieces," Mendaros said. Nudelman needs to submit his Lego creation for the global contest in June, and there will be at least 30 other submissions from Legoland Discovery Centers from around the world. He also shared that when he grows up, he wants to be a master model builder.

Lego Has Some Big Formula 1-Themed Plans for 2025

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Last year, Lego and Formula 1 announced a multi-year partnership that would include several new F1-themed products; for the first time, all 10 teams would be represented across the Lego portfolio. That was exciting news, but it turns out it was only the tip of the iceberg. Now, with the start of the 75th anniversary season of Formula 1 just weeks away, Lego has announced a comprehensive plan to celebrate the sport — one that goes far beyond new products. On February 27, Lego announced that in addition to the Lego Formula 1 sets, they would be offering at-race activities, digital content and experiences both in retail and at Legoland Discovery Centers and Lego Discovery Centers globally. As part of the push, there will be Lego Fan Zones at 13 F1 races this year, where fans can enjoy make and take builds, photo opportunities and a chance to see the entire Lego Formula 1 product range for the first time. Plus, at 20 races, there will be pop-up Lego stores that will sell Formula 1 Lego products from the numerous collections offered by the brand. On top of that, various Lego stores around the world will also take part in the celebration with race-themed experiences, including a Lego Formula 1 poster giveaway and a free steering wheel-building activity for kids to take home. 'We have a wide range of immersive and creative experiences for fans and families to dive into throughout the entire year, and we can't wait to get started,' said Federico Begher, senior vice president of new businesses at the Lego Group. Kids can visit to test their racing skills in the Lego world. There will also be a series of livestreams at where fans can learn all about the Lego Group and Formula 1 partnership and all it will offer in 2025. The first live stream was held on March 1. During that livestream, the company even dropped news of a new sweepstakes for Lego Insiders: the grand prize is a trip for two to either the Spanish or British Grand Prix. Who knows? Maybe they'll be giving away other trips in subsequent streams. You Might Also Like You Need a Torque Wrench in Your Toolbox Tested: Best Car Interior Cleaners The Man Who Signs Every Car
