Warning after parked cars delay fire engine
Motorists in Leicestershire are being urged to park responsibly after a fire engine got stuck driving down a narrow street. Emergency services and the council were in Leicester speaking to people about parking issues when firefighters were delayed because cars were blocking the street. East Leicester Police said vehicles were parked on both sides of the road and delayed the fire engine by "a few minutes". In a warning to drivers, the force said a short delay "can mean the difference between life and death". A post by East Leicester Police on Facebook added: "We urge all drivers to think carefully about where they park. "Blocking roads or parking irresponsibly can stop emergency vehicles like fire engines from getting through – and that delay could cost lives. "When cars are parked on corners, narrow streets, or too close together, it becomes very difficult for fire engines to pass. "In an emergency, every second counts. If the fire service cannot get to a fire quickly, the delay can be deadly." Follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
