Actress Leighton Meester Shares Why She's Prioritized Her Family Over Her Career
Actress Leighton Meester Shares Why She's Prioritized Her Family Over Her Career originally appeared on WeHaveKids. When it comes to Leighton Meester's schedule, her job always comes after her kids. At least, that's what she said in a recent interview with Bustle, where she opened up about how she has passed on different job opportunities throughout her career in order to spend more time with her son and daughter. Related: David Beckham's Daughter Gives Him an Epic Makeover in New Video The actress, who has two children with her husband Adam Brody, shared how she's always put her kiddos first when it came to her career. "There's been a lot of stuff that I haven't done because I want to be with them," she told the magazine. "I don't like being away from them. I'm sure a lot of people feel this way, but I'm especially not into it." "Obviously, for the very right thing, I would probably be like, 'Let's figure it out.' I mean, I'm not going to leave my family for a year. We're not doing that," the 39-year-old continued. "But apart from that, we have a good system in place, where I can consider jobs carefully. And every other piece of life." That's obviously worked out well for the Gossip Girl alum, who has made a pretty good career for herself over the years, despite turning down anything that would take her away from her kiddos for too long. That's likely why she told Vogue that her kids spend a lot of time on set with her and Brody in a February interview, when she said that they understand exactly what their parents due for a living. "I don't think they're fazed at all," the mother of two said at the time. "They get a lot of us off set and a lot of us not working, which has been always a really big benefit for both of us." As working parents ourselves, that honestly sounds like a pretty good work-life balance for the pair. We wish more people had the opportunity to work this way! Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester makes shock revelation about relationship with Adam Brody
Gossip Girl legend Leighton Meester has revealed why she opted not to have a wedding when she married fellow actor Adam Brody. In a new tell-all with Bustle, the actress, 39, shared her journey from her iconic role as Blair Waldorf to her current life juggling motherhood and fame - prioritizing privacy and personal fulfillment. During the interview, she reflected on why she and her husband, Adam, 45, chose not to have a wedding when the two married in 2014. 'On sets and in life, I've been able to wear a fancy dress and hit a mark and say lines, and I didn't want it to feel like that,' Leighton detailed to the outlet. 'I wanted it to feel intimate and private.' However, the actress made sure to clarify: 'I'm an actor. So I do appreciate attention.' The couple met in 2011 while filming the movie The Oranges but did not begin their romantic relationship until two years later. The pair got engaged in November 2013 and got married just a few months later in a 'small and intimate with close family and friends' in Northern California. Elsewhere in the interview, Leighton opened up about how her life has changed since welcoming kids. 'People are always asking, "What do you want to do? Where do you see yourself? Where do you want to go?"' she told the outlet. 'And I'm like, I don't know. I don't know if it's motherhood or this current situation or this business. 'You kind of can't be like, "I know what I'm doing three years from now." I'm just, like, OK right now. 'I just feel like being in the moment and figuring it out as I go along, because that's all we can do, you know?' Earlier this month, Leighton opened up about losing her good friend and Gossip Girl costar Michelle Trachtenberg. She described Trachtenberg's death in February as 'devastating.' She weighed in on the Harriet The Spy star's passing after the announcement of her cause of death last month, despite an early request from her family to keep the details secret. The pair got engaged in November 2013 and got married just a few months later in a 'small and intimate with close family and friends' in Northern California In a profile for Flaunt, Leighton described Michelle — who died at 39, the same age as her — as 'a wonderful, talented person.' 'It's devastating,' she said of the loss, adding that 'everyone loved her.' 'It's very, very sad for everyone who knew her,' Leighton said. Leighton starred on Gossip Girl as one of the leads alongside Blake Lively from 2007 to 2012. Her character, Blair Waldorf, is introduced as a student at an elite private high school in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Her status as a socialite makes her a regular fixture in the writings of the anonymous gossip blogger known as Gossip Girl. Leighton's portrayal as the frenemy to Blake's character Serena van der Woodsen made her a hit with critics and fans alike.

Gossip Girl star's Netflix crime thriller and all fans say the same thing
The noughties icon stars in a Netflix original thriller that left many fans feeling disappointed Leighton Meester, best known for her role as Blair Waldorf in the popular teen drama Gossip Girl, takes on a starkly different character in the mystery film The Weekend Away. The Netflix original, adapted from Sarah Alderson's novel and released on the streaming service in 2022, promised much with its idyllic setting of Split, Croatia, and a beloved leading lady. However, it appears to have missed the mark with audiences. A scathing critique on Rotten Tomatoes read: "Absolutely horrible! "Poor acting, a simple and too predictable script... The only good moment in this movie is a bird's-eye view of that city in Croatia. Unforgettable waste of time." Another review expressed disappointment, noting: "This movie had all the elements to tell a good story: a decent cast, an interesting location, and an attractive premise, but it turns out they decided to make everything jumbled and full of loose ends." In the film, Leighton portrays Beth, a new mother who travels to Croatia for a brief holiday with her lifelong friend Kate, played by Christina Wolfe, reports the Mirror US. Their trip includes a raucous night out clubbing, during which Kate encourages Beth to consider a one-night stand to alleviate her marital woes. After their night of revelry, Beth awakens with a hazy recollection of the events, only to discover that Kate has mysteriously disappeared. After a bit of sleuthing with the aid of their obliging taxi driver from the previous evening, Ziad Bakri's character Beth discovers that the two chaps they spent the night with were actually hired escorts and cunning con artists. Beth's friend had engaged the duo for some light-hearted fun, unbeknownst to her of the gents' clandestine criminal past. The duplicitous pair masquerade as respectable businessmen to sedate and rob their unsuspecting female clientele. The film's intriguing plot received praise from several viewers, with one fan commenting: "This is a great thriller with twists and turns that bring plenty of surprises. Leighton Meester shines, as does Croatia." Another enthusiast remarked: "It's a fantastic, fast-paced suspense thriller. Must-watch movie. "Lead roles-specifically Leighton Meester-are excellent." When it premiered, courtesy of its star actress, the movie piqued enough curiosity to amass almost 80 million hours of viewing. However, consensus suggests that The Weekend Away might not entirely fulfil viewer expectations. A critique reads: "Decent acting from the main lady, but otherwise pretty average and not a particularly thrilling thriller." Moreover, one audience member expressed that the movie suffered from "strange pacing," and characters who "lacked depth." Form your own opinion on whether this film meets the criteria of the thriller genre by watching The Weekend Away with Leighton Meester on Netflix today.
