Leitrim end their campaign with victory over Tipperary
It was a long time coming, but Leitrim signed off on 2025 with their first victory as they defeated Tipperary by eight points at TEG Cusack Park. That win wasn't enough for the Connacht men to progress, however, as their -21 score difference was bettered by Antrim's -16 for the final third-placed qualification place. Stephen Poacher's debut win was achieved with goals from Jack Flynn, Tom Prior, and Joe McGloin, although they left a handful more behind them. This contest brought together two teams carrying a huge turnover of players from last year. Still, the opportunity for Tailteann Cup progression was clear, although Leitrim needed a heftier margin of victory than Tipp. Leitrim full-forward Darren Cox was a late withdrawal as McGloin came into their attack. Shorn of full-back line regulars in Jimmy Feehan and Jack Harney, Tipp U20 star Eoin O'Connell came in for his first start at full-back alongside Emmet Moloney. Leitrim targeted goals from the off. Moments after they met for the coin toss, Steven O'Brien slid in to strip opposite captain Mark Diffley before he could aim for the net. Then, Ben Guckian got inside only for Manus McFadden to produce a goal-saving block, which resulted in the corner-back exiting the field. From the subsequent move, Tipp opened the scoring with a lovely two-pointer by Cian Smith. The Clonmel Commercials youngster ended with 0-07 to his name. Leitrim didn't land a score until the 16th minute, but it was worth the wait. Guckian played a one-two with McGloin before slipping the ball to Flynn. Shane Ryan got a solid touch to Flynn's shot, but it bounced in off the crossbar. O'Brien's kick-out mark led to a levelling point by Emmet Moloney, but they wouldn't score again between the 20th minute and half-time. Guckian's pacy point moved Leitrim ahead before striking for a second goal in the 27th minute. Goalkeeper Daire O'Shea booted a free long, Barry McNulty won it on the run, and he released the influential Prior, who confidently picked out the bottom corner. McNulty won and converted a free, and it remained 2-02 to 0-03 at half-time despite a couple of late goal chances. Jason Madigan got in the way of Donal Casey's shot, while Prior dived to block Smith's drilled effort. The sides shared the first four points of the second half, with Daithí Hogan and Smith scores sandwiching those from Riordan O'Rourke and Flynn. But Leitrim were beginning to exploit the conditions through Guckian and O'Rourke points. After a Smith free, the Connacht side struck for their third goal. Conor Quinn produced a diving block on Seán O'Connor, and they countered with Diffley squaring for McGloin to palm home. Prior could've tacked on a fourth goal but chose to point for a 3-07 to 0-06 lead. Smith stroked over a two-point free in response, while Darragh Brennan had a shot at goal blocked by Diffley, who then limped off. Leitrim came close twice more in stoppage time, but McNulty and O'Rourke fired wide. Leitrim: D O'Shea; K Clancy, M Diffley, É McNamara; J Foley (0-01), D Casey, J Rooney (0-01); B McNulty (0-01f), C McGloin; J Flynn (1-01), K Keegan, T Prior (1-01); B Guckian (0-02), J McGloin (1-00), R O'Rourke (0-02). Antrim squeeze through to Tailteann Cup knockout stages
Antrim are through to the knockout phase of the Tailteann Cup after their eight-point win over London in Newry proved enough to secure one of the best third-place spots in the draw for the preliminary quarter-finals. It was a close-run affair for three quarters of the match, but a black card for London's Matt Moynahan was a prelude to a run of 1-04 without reply. That proved crucial. With Leitrim beating Tipperary in Group 1, it came down to scoring difference to see which of those teams advanced. Antrim got off the mark with Ryan McQuillan kicking points off either foot, but London grew into it as Daniel Clarke pointed and, after a great save by Antrim goalkeeper Mick Byrne from Ciarán Diver, the ball came back to Joshua Obahor to level. Diver edged his side into the lead before Conal Gallagher slung over the first two-pointer of the game, while Byrne was again called into action to save from Ruairi Rafferty with the subsequent '45' nailed by Sean Taylor. McQuillan replied but Liam Gallagher sent over another two for London who were five points up before Antrim began to make some inroads with scores from Conor Stewart and Paddy McBride. Diver and Shay Rafter restored the five-point gap, but after Stewart pulled one back, Antrim really ought to have had a goal in added time when London goalkeeper Andrew Walsh seemed to flp at the ball. Ryan Murray was twice denied the opportunity to turn home and London went into the break with a 0-10 to 0-06 advantage. It was level within minutes of the restart as McBride and Dominic McEnhill landed two-pointers with the wind at their backs. It remained tight, a Conor Hand two briefly giving Antrim the lead for the first time before Obahor levelled it again. The sides remained level going into the final quarter when Antrim struck for home as points from Ada Loughran and Ryan Murray were followed by a Byne '45', which came after McEnhill's 56th-minute penalty was saved, Matt Moynahan getting sin-binned in the process. By the time he returned, the game was beyond his team as Antrim had gone nine clear with substitute Niall Burns finding the net despite the best efforts of Sean Taylor. Shay Rafter thumped to the net from a free in added time, which saw eyes divert to the Leitrim-Tipp score, but late points from Marc Jordan and Dominic McEnhill were enough to see Antrim home and into the knockout phase. Antrim: Michael Byrne (0-01 '45'); Eoghan McCabe, Eunan Walsh, Kavan Keenan; James McAuley, Dermot McAleese, Marc Jordan (0-01); Conor Hand (0-02, 1 tp), Conor Stewart (0-02); Ronan Boyle, Adam Loughran (0-01), Patrick McBride (0-03, 1 tp); Ryan McQuillan (0-04), Ryan Murray (0-01), Dominic McEnhill (0-06, 2 tp, 2f). Subs: Niall Burns (1-01) for A Loughran (52), John Morgan for J McAuley (70+1), James McDonnell for R Boyle (70+1) London: Andrew Walsh; Daire Rooney, Sean Taylor (0-01 '45'), Matt Moynahan; Eoin Walsh, Conal Gallagher (0-02, 1 tp), Kristian Healy; Tighe Barry, Liam Gallagher (0-02, 1 tp); Joshua Obahor (0-02), Daniel Clarke (0-01), Ciaran Diver (0-03); Ruairi Rafferty, Nathan McElwaine, Shay Rafter (1-02, 1-01f).

Kildare v Sligo LIVE updates from the Tailteann Cup clash
Sligo take on Kildare in the Tailteann Cup Group 1, with top spot on the line for the victor. Both teams are on 4 points after dispatching Leitrim and Tipperary in their previous two group games. The latter two sides play each other in Mullingar with throw in at 1:45pm there, with the winner of that clash advancing to the preliminary quarter final. We begin proceedings at 2pm here, with plenty on the line here in Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon. The winner here will skip the preliminary quarter-final phase and go straight through to earn a well-deserved extra week's rest. Sligo were lucky to get away from Carrick-on-Shannon with a win last time out, coming back from 4 down in the second half to remain unblemished. Kildare took care of Tipp well in their last game, winning by 3-19 to 1-11. The teams are as follows: Sligo: Aidan Devaney; Evan Lyons, Eddie McGuinness, Paul McNamara; Brian Cox, Darragh Cummins, Luke Towey; Paul Kilcoyne, Patrick O'Connor; Alan Reilly, David Quinn, Cian Lally; Alan McLoughlin, Niall Murphy, Pat Spillane. Kildare: Cian Burke; Harry O'Neill, Mark Dempsey, Brian Byrne; Tommy Gill, David Hyland, James McGrath; Kevin Feely, Brendan Gibbons; Ben McCormack, Alex Beirne, Darragh Swords; Ryan Sinkey, Daniel Flynn, Jimmy Hyland. Welcome everyone, to a cloudy Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon where Sligo take on Kildare in round three of the Tailteann Cup Group 1. Plenty at stake here, as the winner here gains top spot of Group 1 and all the psychological benfits that come with it, but most importantly a week off as they go straight through to the quarter-finals without the hassle of the prelims. Both teams are warming up here as we have just over half an hour to go until throw-in.

Sinéad Regan says it is Sligo's time to deliver
Sligo captain Sinéad Regan says Sligo can compete with anyone as they prepare for the start of the All-Ireland junior championship. Sligo goes into the All-Ireland on the back of a positive Division Four campaign, which saw them reach the semi-finals. Advertisement The campaign included a victory over fellow Connacht side Leitrim, who won the Intermediate All-Ireland championship last season. After a close defeat to Fermanagh, who also won an All-Ireland last season, Regan sees no reason why Sligo can't compete with the best. "There is nothing between a lot of these teams. In the last couple of years, we seem to be on the wrong side of narrow defeats in the championship. "The fact that we got over the line against Leitrim this year, and we put it up to Fermanagh in the semi-final, shows we are not a million miles off. Advertisement "This year, we are trying to take the positives from what those teams have done. You look at Leitrim, a small county like ourselves - our neighbours - they did absolutely amazing, winning the intermediate and progressing to senior." A group containing Derry, Limerick, Kilkenny, and Louth, Sligo's All-Ireland hopes have often been ended in close encounters and crucial moments. Under new management, game management and control have been focal points. For Regan, it may not be a case of now or never, but she is keen for this year to be the year of success for Sligo. Advertisement "In the last couple of years, we have been there or thereabouts, but we just can't get over the line. "This year, we want this to be our year. We want to get over the line. Every year, we say 'next year,' but we want this year to be our year. "There are a few girls now who have been around for a couple of years with no silverware, and there are only so many 'next years.' "It is the little things and the fine details we have been trying to work on. Something like starting games slowly has been an issue in the past, so we are trying to get off to a good start, find consistency in games, and see out games. "With the new management this year, they come with fresh ideas."
