Over 30 kids ‘safe' after bus catches fire, becomes fully engulfed in flames near Moab
MOAB, Utah (ABC4) — A tour bus full of children became fully engulfed in flames near Moab due to a mechanical issue Friday morning, according to Utah Highway Patrol. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
The tour bus, which was travelling from the Denver area, was filled with around 36 children that were on a camping trip, according to Lt. Cameron Roden, UHP. The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. on SR-191.
The driver reportedly noticed that the bus was experiencing a mechanical issue and pulled over to the side of the road. The driver then had all the children onboard evacuate the bus.
Shortly after, the bus caught fire and became fully engulfed. The tour bus was a total loss, according to Roden.
The Grand County School District has sent a bus to transport the kids to a local junior high school. The tour bus company has reportedly sent another bus to pick them up from the school and take them back to the Denver area.
SR-191 was shut down after the incident but has since reopened. No injuries have been reported.
