Football Manager 26 shows off revamped engine in first trailer
After cancelling last year's entry, Sega has revealed the first trailer for the long-awaited Football Manager 26. Football Manager 25 promised to be a significant overhaul for the long-running series but, after several delays, it was cancelled entirely. It was an odd situation because Football Manager games have been released annually for decades, so this means fans have had their longest wait yet for a new entry, with the last being Football Manager 2024 which dropped in December 2023. Over a year and a half later, Sega has revealed the first trailer for Football Manager 26, which briefly shows off the switch to the Unity engine. The trailer itself leans into the longer than usual wait between games. 'The wait has been long,' the narrator says. 'The build-up impossible to ignore. So much has changed, but that feeling? It never left.' While the trailer is interspersed with close-up crowd clips not from the game itself, a section showing the players walking out onto the pitch is highlighted as 'actual game footage: not final'. Developer Sports Interactive has described Football Manager 26 as 'the most immersive and visually rich' entry yet – and hopefully they don't just mean the spreadsheets. After an agreement was struck in 2024, the next entry will sport the official Premier League licence for the first time. While there's no word on an exact release date, Sega states more news is 'coming soon'. The publisher previously slated it for autumn 2025. More Trending Along with a new engine, the cancelled Football Manager 25 was set to include women's football for the first time. In a post announcing the game's cancellation earlier this year, Sports Interactive said: 'With the launch of Football Manager 25 we set out to create the biggest technical and visual advancement in the series for a generation, laying the building blocks for a new era. 'Due to a variety of challenges that we've been open about to date, and many more unforeseen, we currently haven't achieved what we set out to do in enough areas of the game, despite the phenomenal efforts of our team.' They added: 'Through the cancellation, every effort is now focused on ensuring that our next release achieves our goal and hits the quality level we all expect.' Resident Evil Requiem leak hints at huge gameplay upgrade, and fans losing their minds
(Image via Capcom) The Resident Evil fandom just got served some juicy gossip, and it's not from Umbrella Corp's PR team. A trusted insider has spilled fresh gameplay tea on Resident Evil Requiem , and if these leaks hold true, we're looking at a serious evolution for the franchise. Think open levels, vehicles, dual protagonists, and combat that might give The Last of Us Part 2 a run for its money. Resident Evil Requiem Takes You Back to Raccoon City, But Not How You Remember It After the haunting vibes of Resident Evil Village , Capcom is steering us straight back to a wrecked, post-apocalyptic Raccoon City. Requiem , unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025, isn't just a nostalgia trip; it's shaping up to be a brutal, atmospheric playground. Officially, we know Grace Ashcroft is our main lead. Unofficially? Leaks say Leon Kennedy is also tagging in, older, grimmer, and ready to throw hands (and bullets). Resident Evil Requiem Reportedly Has Open-Level Design with Vehicle Traversal Here's the headline-grabber: the game will reportedly feature open levels that you can traverse with an actual vehicle. Not a scripted 'drive here, watch cutscene' kind of deal, but actual gameplay integration. That means exploration, potential ambushes on the road, and maybe even using your ride as a survival tool. This is a big departure for Resident Evil , where transportation has usually been limited to set pieces. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo Two Protagonists, Two Playstyles The leaks suggest a clever split in gameplay styles: Leon's gameplay : Inspired by The Last of Us Part 2 , with stealth-heavy encounters, gritty melee combat, and methodical pacing. Perfect for a veteran cop-turned-zombie-killer who's seen way too much. Grace's gameplay : More environmental interaction, using objects around you to take out enemies creatively. Add in light vs. darkness mechanics, and her gameplay loop sounds tense, strategic, and creepy in all the right ways. Aiming for Performance Without Compromise According to the insider, Capcom is pushing for smooth 60fps even in its open environments. That's ambitious, especially for a series known for tight corridors and fixed spaces. If they pull it off, Requiem could be one of the smoothest-running entries in the franchise's history. Vehicular traversal, dual protagonist design, and expanded combat mechanics aren't just bullet points; they hint at Resident Evil Requiem redefining the series formula. If the rumors are legit, this could be the most dynamic and replayable entry in the franchise. The official gameplay reveal is reportedly just around the corner, so we won't have to wait long to see if these leaks are fact or fiction. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Resident Evil 9: Why Isn't Leon Returning? Because Capcom Wants You to Feel the Horror
Capcom held an event Thursday to show off some of its big games coming soon and titles it has already released. The star of the show was Resident Evil Requiem, where the developers of the game made it clear that Leon Kennedy will not return, although it's hard to fully believe the word of Capcom since it's been known to swerve expectations. Resident Evil: Requiem, also referred to as Resident Evil 9, will focus on Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst, allowing players to experience the horror from the character's perspective, which the team referred to as "addictive fear." The developers say Grace will overcome her fears as the game progresses. The game's developers did mention fan-favorite character Leon, star of Resident Evil 2 and 4, who was rumored to be a playable character for the game, or perhaps a secondary character. They explained that Leon was initially intended to be the star of the game, but it was difficult to make a horror-focused game based around him, as no one wants to see the suave action hero jump at a loud noise. This focus on fear and a new protagonist seemingly matches up with Resident Evil 7, which raised the level of horror for the franchise. In that game, players controlled Ethan Winters, who was just a regular guy searching for his wife in the swamps of Louisiana. In that game, Resident Evil mainstay Chris Redfield made an appearance at the very end and played a bigger role in Resident Evil Village. The Resident Evil developers also confirmed a few more details about the game. RE9 will be an offline, single-player game, and the events of the game will take place in Raccoon City, 30 years after the missile strike in Resident Evil 2. Clearly, something evil has remained in the ashes. Capcom did say there are more interviews with the development team regarding the game at its Resident Evil Portal site. However, once the website was mentioned during Capcom's livestream, it immediately began to crash, likely due to the sheer number of people trying to visit it. Resident Evil Requiem will be released on Feb. 27, 2026, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Resident Evil Requiem Revealed, But Where's Leon Kennedy?
After a fake-out earlier in Summer Game Fest on Friday, Resident Evil Requiem, or Resident Evil 9, was shown for the first time. The new title is the first mainline entry since Capcom released Resident Evil Village in 2021, and is rumored to feature series stalwart Leon Kennedy. In the trailer, the only person we saw was a character named Grace Ashcroft, who works for the FBI and appears to have ties to Raccoon City. For the most hardcore Resident Evil fans, the name Ashcroft will ring a bell. Alyssa Ashcroft was one of the survivors of the online-only title, Resident Evil Outbreak for the PS2. Alyssa was a journalist who was trapped in Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2, and she, along with other survivors, had to escape the city before it was destroyed. Grace is Alyssa's daughter, and in the trailer, she is going to visit the Remwood Hotel, where Alyssa was murdered. Later in the trailer, images from what appears to be the remnants of a destroyed Raccoon City are shown -- including the police department from RE2 -- so it appears Resident Evil 9 will return to where the series started. Leon's (rumored) return is a big deal for the series, which has made some of its best games with him in the starring role. He first showed up as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2, which built on the original game's success with more story and improved monsters and level design. He showed up again in Resident Evil 4, which took the series in a new direction by introducing an over-the-shoulder perspective, instead of the usual static camera angles and tank controls. Leon was also one of several playable protagonists in Resident Evil 6, a game that seemed to forget about its survival horror roots. We mostly don't talk about that one. But the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 was an excellent return to form, bringing RE4's gameplay and much better graphics to a fan-favorite entry. The RE4 remake was a similar success. Resident Evil Requiem is set to drop Feb. 27, 2026, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, but we're hoping to get our hands on it this weekend. If you want to catch up on older Resident Evil games, Capcom is having a sale that includes basically all the games, including Village and the three remakes.
