Hong Kong cycling confident of being chosen as a host of new Track World Cup event
Hong Kong's top cycling official said the city was working on a bid to host several international track tournaments over the next two years. Advertisement Leung Hung-tak, chairman of the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China, said his organisation was working with the world governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), on the return of world-class competition to the city's velodrome. And with the city having previously staged UCI events, Leung said he was confident Hong Kong would be chosen even if there were competing applications. 'Hong Kong still has an advantage because our previous tournaments have given them [UCI] confidence,' he said. Hong Kong has hosted the Track Cycling World Cup three times – in 2016 and twice in 2019 – the Track Cycling Nations Cup in 2021 and 2024, as well as the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2017. Hong Kong set to host National Games cycling test event in mid-April

Advertisement The city's cycling association has set aside three days – April 19 to 21 – at the Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O for the International Track Cup I & II, but association chairman Leung Hung-tak told the Post that the test event would be held at the same time. Hong Kong is to co-host November's Games alongside Guangdong and Macau. The Hong Kong International Track Cup I & II is a lower-tier event among those run by world governing body the UCI. 'The dates [for the test event] are set for now and if they are to be changed, even the International Track Cup will have to be rescheduled too,' Leung said. 'These two events are to be held concurrently, because we need a proper event to test things.
