Cycling test event for National Games set for mid-April at Hong Kong Velodrome

A test event for China's National Games is expected to be held in Hong Kong in mid-April, the local cycling chief has revealed, with cyclists from around the region set to take part.
The city's cycling association has set aside three days – April 19 to 21 – at the Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O for the International Track Cup I & II, but association chairman Leung Hung-tak told the Post that the test event would be held at the same time.
Hong Kong is to co-host November's Games alongside Guangdong and Macau.
The Hong Kong International Track Cup I & II is a lower-tier event among those run by world governing body the UCI.
'The dates [for the test event] are set for now and if they are to be changed, even the International Track Cup will have to be rescheduled too,' Leung said. 'These two events are to be held concurrently, because we need a proper event to test things.
'We have invited teams from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Macau to participate, and there could be more.'

2025 National Games: real-name ticket system may be used, Hong Kong office says

Hong Kong's coordination office for the National Games is studying whether to adopt a real-name system for tickets at prices ranging from a few dozen Hong Kong dollars up to about HK$500 (US$64). Yeung Tak-keung, head of the National Games Coordination Office, said on Saturday that tickets would be sold from August on a unified platform for events to be held in the city, Macau and Guangdong province in November. 'It is estimated that the ticket prices will range from a few dozen dollars to about HK$500 at most, depending on the event, such as the preliminary or final round, and also the number of seats,' he said on a televised programme. 'We will try our best to set the ticket price to a level that is acceptable to all residents.' Yeung said the local office was discussing ticketing details with authorities from Macau and Guangdong, including whether a real-name system would be used as well as other measures to combat scalpers. 'Whether the tickets could be transferred, whether to use a real-name system and how to crack down on scalpers will all be carefully considered,' he said, adding that more details would be released later.

2025 events at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park, from National Games to Football Festival

Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park has been notching up firsts since its main stadium was officially opened in March, and the milestones are set to continue during 2025. More than 42,000 spectators shared the euphoria of watching the city's footballers beat India at Kai Tak Stadium on Tuesday, in the first outing at the venue by the Hong Kong representative team. The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens was staged at the stadium for the first time in late March, by which time the HK$30 billion (US$3.9 billion) park had already hosted international 15-a-side rugby at its 5,000-seat sports ground. National Games of China Hong Kong will co-host the 15th National Games with Guangdong and Macau from November 9 to 21, with three of its seven medal events – rugby sevens, fencing and men's handball – to be held at Kai Tak. The sevens will be held at the 50,000-capacity Kai Tak Stadium from November 12 to 14, after handball takes over Kai Tak Arena from November 1 to 10.

Photo: RTHK People taking part in this year's Streetathon will get the chance to run along a brand-new artery connecting East and West Kowloon before it officially opens. The event, now in its tenth year, takes place on November 23 and features a city-centre marathon, a cross-harbour half-marathon and 10-kilometre races. Full and half marathon runners will start on the Island Eastern Corridor in Causeway Bay, before crossing the Eastern Harbour Crossing to Kowloon, running through to Kai Tak and Kowloon Bay and traversing the entire Yau Ma Tei section of the Central Kowloon Bypass to finish at the Yau Ma Tei Interchange. Andes Leung, CEO and co-founder of event organiser RunOurCity, said it will be a rare chance for runners to blaze along the brand-new bypass. "This time we can close both eastbound and westbound of the whole bypass so that we can have more time for set-up and for dismantling, so we can have more interesting activities or entertainment inside the bypass," he said. "Even though for next year or future years we may use the same bypass, it will not be the same because we cannot close both east and westbound I would say this is the only unique time for runners to join this." Leung said there will also be a separate 10-kilometre race for young entrants, to encourage full-time students aged between 12 and 25 to take up long-distance running. Public registration for the races opened on June 12, with 20,000 places available in total.
