Tennessee baseball defeats Wake Forest, wins 2025 Knoxville Regional No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-17) defeated Wake Forest (39-22), 11-5, Monday to win the Knoxville Regional of the 2025 NCAA baseball tournament at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. With the victory, the Vols advance to the Fayetteville Super Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas for a best-of-three series. The Demon Deacons led, 2-0, in the second inning after Matt Conte hit a two-run home run. Tennessee pulled to within, 2-1, in the third inning after Levi Clark scored when Gavin Kilen reached base on an error. The Vols scored seven runs in the fourth inning and led, 8-2. Wake Forest scored two runs in the fifth inning and added one run in the sixth inning, making the score, 8-5. Tennessee combined for three runs in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. Manny Marin went 3-for-3 and hit a three-run home run and one double. He recorded three RBIs and scored two runs. Andrew Fischer went 1-for-2 and hit a two-run home run, recording two RBIs and scored two runs. AJ Russell started for the Vols. He pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two runs and three hits. Russell recorded three strikeouts, while totaling 38 pitches, including 26 strikes. Brayden Krenzel (3-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief for Tennessee. He allowed two runs, one hit and two walks. Krenzel recorded three strikeouts, while totaling 55 pitches, including 33 strikes. Liam Doyle earned his first save of the season. He pitched 2.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts. If there were any concerns about Tennessee dropping off after it won the national championship, those have been allayed so far thanks to the performances of the team's newcomers. The Volunteers (11-0) came out of their most challenging weekend to date with three wins in the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston, and the numbers they're putting up so far have exceeded those at this point in 2024. The Vols have hit 31 homers and average a nation-leading 2.82 per game. Last year, when they slugged 184 for the second-most in Division I history, they had 25 in the first 11 games (2.27). The pitching staff leads the nation with a 1.82 ERA and 14.6 strikeouts per nine innings. At this point a year ago, those figures were 2.80 and 9.7, respectively. Tennessee hit a combined 10 homers and its pitching staff allowed five runs and struck out 45 in wins over Oklahoma State, Rice and Arizona. Louisville transfer Gavin Kilen homered four times, drove in seven runs and scored seven times in the three games. Six of his nine hits went for extra bases. He leads the Vols with seven homers, 17 RBIs and a team-best .486 batting average. Freshman Levi Clark homered against Rice and Arizona, with the the ball bouncing off the train tracks above the left-field wall and out of Daikin Park against the Wildcats. He has five homers for the year and is batting .462. 'When you've got depth in your order like this team does, it's really easy to pass the torch to the next guy,' said Mississippi transfer Andrew Fischer, who has four homers batting cleanup. HOUSTON − Levi Clark hit a home run out of Houston's Daikin Park on Sunday. The Tennessee baseball freshman crushed the first pitch he saw in the second inning against Arizona to left field. It landed on the train tracks above the Crawford Boxes in left field at the Houston Astros' ballpark. The No. 1 Vols improved to 11-0 this season with a 5-1 win against the Wildcats to sweep the Astros Foundation College Classic. Clark has hit five homers in his first 10 games at Tennessee. He also hit a three-run homer against Rice on Saturday in Tennessee's 13-3 win. 'It is special," Vols third baseman Andrew Fischer said of Clark's performance. "To be honest with you, there are still a lot of stones unturned for that kid. Everyone sees what is going on out here. He is putting on a show. I still think he has gone way more in the tank that people haven't seen yet. He is going to be a really, really good ballplayer.' Tennessee hit 10 home runs in the three games. Tennessee will open play in the 25th annual Astros Foundation College Classic on Friday. The top-ranked Vols will face No. 25 Oklahoma State in a top 25 matchup.
