Rollout of 49ers new uniform reveal is getting ridiculous
The San Francisco 49ers have new uniforms that will be revealed August 28. If you don't believe me, just ask the 49ers' social media team. An August 28 reveal is the extent of the information any fan or uniform enthusiast needs to know about the new threads that will be debuted as part of a "Rivalries" uniform set to be worn against the Seattle Seahawks in the season finale at Levi's Stadium. The rest of the division and the AFC East will also add the additional alternate uniform. The 49ers originally announced the date of the reveal on July 25 in a post on Twitter. It's a short video that gets straight to the point without revealing any obvious details about the super top secret jersey. This is good social media work and a nice teaser with more than a month to go until the actual reveal. What has followed is a bombardment of uniform content that doesn't give any obvious details about the uniforms. It's just reminders that we're more than a month away from the reveal while also turning into some weird fourth-wall break by the 49ers social media staff. In the three days since letting everyone know on July 25 that the uniforms would be revealed one month and three days later, the 49ers have posted another teaser video, a video showing player reactions to the uniforms, another weird fourth-wall break and then a graphic featuring still shots from the earlier player reaction video that is apparently celebrating that there is only one more month of this seemingly interminable rollout: This is excessive across a three-day span. Fans are undoubtedly excited about new uniforms and the right strategic play for a group aiming for engagement is to hammer uniform content because people react. The problem is they're not doing uniform content. They're doing date content. All of the above is about August 28 when the uniforms are revealed, not about the actual uniforms. Those who are into the uniform thing have the date circled on their calendars. Unless the 49ers are going to reveal some morsels of uniform details fans can pore over, they should scale back the incessant posting about a jersey nobody will see for another month. A new uniform is an exciting thing, to be sure. But it's becoming more and more difficult to care the more we're beaten about the head and neck with social content that seems to be laughing at fans for caring more than it is actually trying to service a real uniform rollout. In one of the above posts the social team captions its video "and not one single 'please.'" So, I'll try that in hopes we don't have to hear about the uniforms again until (which is when the uniforms will be shown to the public, FYI). @49ers, please article originally appeared on Niners Wire: 49ers new uniform reveal on social media feels endless
