BRISTOL, Fla. - A high-speed chase in Florida led to the rescue of a 7-week-old infant and the arrest of his accused kidnapper. What we know An Amber Alert was issued for the baby on Sunday morning in Bibb County, Georgia. That afternoon, a vigilant citizen in Liberty County, Florida, called 911 because they recognized a silver Ford F-150 that matched the description of the Amber Alert. The caller remained on the line with dispatch, providing real-time updates, which enabled deputies to locate the truck. Video: Kidnapping suspect arrested after pursuit ends with PIT maneuver on wrong side of toll road However, according to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, when deputies tried to pull it over, the suspect, identified as Maurtez Rashaad Edwards, took off and led them on a chase through the rural county. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were notified and joined the effort to intercept the vehicle. An FHP sergeant tried to do a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to end the pursuit safely, but it was not successful. As the pursuit continued into Gadsden County, more FHP units joined Liberty County deputies in strategic coordination. As the pursuit approached the T-intersection of Flat Creek Road and Bonnie Hill Road in Gadsden County, a trooper executed a slow-speed PIT maneuver, which disabled the suspect's vehicle, bringing the chase to an end. However, law enforcement officers said the suspect then drove forward and rammed an FHP sergeant's vehicle. When deputies and troopers approached the disabled vehicle, they said they saw the suspect place the barrel of an AR-15-style rifle into his mouth. Here's what will change An LCSO sergeant wrestled the gun away from the suspect, who briefly escaped and ran into a wooded area before being arrested. Liberty County: Toddler struck by family member's vehicle, flown to hospital, official says
The Brief A two-year-old was reportedly hit by a family member's vehicle on CR 3548. The family encountered a Liberty County corporal who helped bring the toddler to a hospital. The child is reportedly in critical condition. LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas - A child was flown to a Houston hospital on Sunday after being struck by a family member's vehicle in the Cleveland, Texas area. What we know According to Liberty County Captain David Meyers, a two-year-old boy was accidentally struck by a family member's vehicle. The accident happened on a driveway on County Road 3548. The child's parents were driving him to a hospital when they saw a patrol vehicle and flagged it down. A corporal with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office saw the child was in critical condition, then called for more units and support from first responders. The corporal then took the child and his mother to a nearby Texas DPS unit, who then took them to a hospital. When they arrived, emergency room staff began life-saving efforts and called for a Life Flight helicopter. The boy was then flown to a Houston hospital and taken for surgery. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office has started investigating the incident. What we don't know No one involved in the accident has been identified at this time. What they're saying Capt. David Meyers sent the following statement on behalf of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office:: "Our hearts go out to the toddler and his family during this deeply tragic time. Missing kayaker found in Midway
MIDWAY, Ga. (WSAV) — A missing kayaker was found Sunday morning after a lengthy search for him Saturday. Saturday, emergency services searched for the missing boater in Midway, Georgia. According to Assistant Chief Charles Roney, Liberty County Fire Services, Emergency Medical Personnel and the Liberty County Sheriff's Office attempted to locate a man who was in a canoe stuck in the marsh due to low tide. Roney said deputies in two boats went out to locate the man without any success. The rescue was called off Saturday due to incoming storms in the area. "He was trying to get back in the right path, so he could raise his kid," said Hunter. "There were some messages sent from his phone which were a little concerning," Hunter said. "Apparently, there was also a fight that had occurred."
