Summer is just weeks away, and locally owned dairy bars, ice cream shops, and trucks are already open for the season. Whether you like two scoops or one in a cone, cup, or both, we all have our favorite spot to grab some ice cream during the warm and sunny days. In the greater Gardner area, there are various places to grab a scoop of freshly made and locally sourced ice cream. From hot fudge sundaes and milkshakes to hot dogs and alcoholic-infused ice cream, there is an ice cream flavor or snack item for every kind of craving or taste in the following greater Gardner area ice cream shops. Vote for your favorite spot to get ice cream with friends and family during the summer. The poll will close at 11:59 pm on May 18. Maddy Silvagnoli, a Gardner resident, opened her full-service ice cream truck last summer and has started her second season. Maddy's Ice Cream Truck offers 11 different flavors of ice cream, including cookie dough and cookies and cream, with toppings including Nutella and brownies. The truck also offers waffle sundaes, novelty treats, and hot dogs. Follow Silvagnoli's Facebook page to find out where Maddy's Ice Cream Truck is parked. Pops Sweet-Harts Ice Cream Trucks has two full-service trucks filled with novelty ice creams, popsicles, Hawaiian-style shaved ice, and a few scoop ice cream flavors. The truck also offers liquor-infused ice cream for adults over 21. The ice cream truck can be booked for parties and events seven days a week. To book, call 978-305-4002 or email nancyjtessier@ Lickity Splitz at 231 Main St. in Winchendon is open year-round. It offers more than ice cream – quick breakfast, lunch, and dinner bites. The greater Gardner staple is open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. This season, the Winchendon year-round ice cream and quick bites shop has opened its first ice cream truck called the Lickity Express. The truck is equipped with a grill so that customers can grab hamburgers and hot dogs, in addition to a dozen flavors of ice cream. The Lickity Express can also be booked for parties and events. To stay updated on the whereabouts of the new ice cream truck, follow the Lickity Splitz Facebook page. A Winchendon classic, Murdock Farm & Dairy Bar is now open every day from 1 to 9 p.m. at 62 Elmwood Road. The dairy farm has been mixing homemade ice cream on site since 1964, so every cone or cup of ice cream is freshly scooped. For updates on open hours and ice cream flavors, follow the dairy farm and bar's Facebook page. Another year-round ice cream shop is Kay's Dairy Bar in Westminster. The dairy bar also offers quick bites for lunch and dinner. It is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Kay's Dairy Bar is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Izzie's Ice Cream in Templeton is open Tuesday through Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and again on Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The ice cream joint is closed on Mondays. The ice cream spot offers almost 30 flavors of hard scoop ice cream, a premium sundae menu, a drink menu with root beer floats, and four flavors of ice cream cakes. The Kitchen Garden Country Store in Templeton opens its ice cream bar every day until the end of September. The country store and bakery scoops Bliss Ice Cream, which is made in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The ice cream window at the Templeton Country Store is open Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Follow the Kitchen Garden on Facebook to be aware of changes to open hours and seasonal flavors.
