PlayStation Plus just added three amazing games you need to play this weekend (August 8-10)
I go back and forth almost every month debating whether or not the PlayStation Plus Essential or Extra games added to PS5 are better. The fact that I can never decide is a great problem to have, but I have a hard time believing that the Extra games will be able to hold a candle to what PlayStation has given us here. It isn't new, but getting access to one of 2023's best games of the year, which recently got a meaty piece of DLC, is reason enough to clear your weekend plans. Even if you're not a soulslike kind of player, the other options are just as exciting for different audiences. That's enough teasing, so let me dive right into these amazing PlayStation Plus games you need to play this weekend. Lies of P The big title this month is the hit soulslike that, to some, even surpasses FromSoftware's efforts. I'll leave that up to you to decide for yourself, but the fact that it is even a discussion should tell you that Lies of P is doing something special. This is a dark reinterpretation of the old Pinocchio story, where you play as a puppet in a world where all the other puppets have gone mad and started rampaging through the city. Combat is closer to a Bloodborne than a Dark Souls, meaning it encourages aggression and dodges rather than turtling behind a shield. The atmosphere and world are absolutely stunning, and the team clearly saw the rough edges in FromSoftware's design and tried to smooth them over. Now that it also has difficulty options, everyone should give it a shot. Recommended Videos Lies of P is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. DayZ Last week I suggested World War Z as an alternative zombie shooter, but that game doesn't have the same intense survival vibes as DayZ. This game, which has its origins as a mod, is wildly influential for both survival games and helping inspire the Battle Royale genre. You will be dropped into a huge map filled with other players and NPC zombies to scavenge for loot in an effort to survive. You'll need to find food, water, weapons, and medicine while trying to avoid zombies and other players who are looking to take all your stuff. If you've played PUBG before, imagine that, only there are hordes of zombies around the map. It is hardcore, unforgiving, and incredibly addictive. DayZ is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. My Hero One's Justice 2 For all you anime fans out there, PlayStation has you covered this weekend with a fun romp with the cast of My Hero Academia in My Hero One's Justice 2. Look, I'm not going to overhype this game because it is average at best as a game. But, for a fan of the anime/manga who wants to see some awesome fan service (not that kind) and smash your favorite characters against each other like a kid playing with toys, this game nails it. The combat system is more flashy than deep, which makes it an ideal game to snag for free to play for a weekend and then uninstall. I do wish we would get better anime games in general, but this one is at least cool to look at and mess around with. My Hero One's Justice 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

All PS Plus Subscribers Can Play Lies of P and Other Games All August Long
Lies of P is an award-winning game that reimagines the story of Pinocchio as a soulslike action role-playing game set in a grimy world overrun by killer mechanical puppets. And all PlayStation Plus subscribers can play that award-winning game, and others, at no additional cost now. PlayStation Plus is Sony's version of Xbox Game Pass, and it offers subscribers a large, constantly expanding library of games. Subscribers can choose from the Essential, Extra and Premium tiers, which each have unique perks and benefits. The plans start at $10 a month, and each tier gives subscribers access to monthly games and rewards. Here are the games all PS Plus subscribers can play throughout August. Lies of P This is a macabre soulslike game akin to Bloodborne and based on Carlo Collodi's classic tale, The Adventures of Pinocchio. Puppets have torn the city of Krat apart, and you play as Pinocchio as he searches for Geppetto in the grisly, oil-stained city. You'll encounter traps, twisted contraptions and maniacal humans in your search throughout the city, and maybe you'll find what it means to be human along the way. DayZ Sony Can you survive the zombie apocalypse? DayZ places you and dozens of other players into a dense 163 square-kilometer (about 63 square-mile) map filled with zombies and materials you'll need to last. And with no checkpoints or saves, you'll need to work together; otherwise, you'll have to start all over. My Hero One's Justice 2 This over-the-top fighting game is the sequel to the arena fighting game My Hero One's Justice. In this game, you can fight as -- or against -- many of the characters from the popular anime series My Hero Academia, including All Might, Endeavor and Fat Gum. You'll use your characters' Quirks -- or unique powers -- to overcome your opponent's abilities and win these epic clashes. Lies of P: Overture Will Be 'Reviewing' DLC Following Player Difficulty Challenges
Neowiz and the development team behind Lies of P: Overture have released a response to fan struggles with the DLC add-on, and the director promises he will 'review various adjustments' following complaints. Neowiz and the development team behind Lies of P: Overture surprised fans everywhere with a shadow drop during the SGF 2025 showcase. Since then, fans have taken to the internet —similar to how fans took to the internet following the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree— to complain about unfair difficulty and challenges the DLC brings. On forums like Reddit (which has now been aggregated into a 'megathread' due to the sheer amount of complaints), fans started by having reservations regarding a difficulty option and after deploying these options in practice, intense fan backlash followed on the painful difficulty spike brought by Overture. Elden Ring fans followed a similar path. On release, Shadow of the Erdtree fans initially complained there was a way to make the game 'easier' with Scadutree Fragments until realizing the DLC brought big difficulty enhancements. All of the fan complaints boil down to what one user, MagicThiccWaku, says: 'I think the DLC is hard in all the wrong places, no reactionary attacks, mistakes are far too punishing and fights last for so long.' Many players have also explained on NG+ base game enemies become nightmarish and finish players in 1-2 hits. After this immense backlash to the Overture DLC difficulty, a video from director Jiwon Choi titled 'Lies of P: Director's Letter' appeared in response. That video can be seen below. In the video, Jiwan Choi expressed his heartfelt thanks to fans who are so passionate about Lies of P and has addressed the issues facing DLC difficulty. He said 'We're reviewing all of it carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions,' adding 'Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience.' Choi continued 'We identified areas that did not turn out quite as we intended,' then 'Therefore, we are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction.' Choi concluded, 'However, combat is one of the most fundamental experiences in Lies of P, so any modifications or changes require meticulous work and thorough testing.' While Overture is put through testing and a patch is being paid attention to, struggling fans should note the development team is working on fixing the problems plaguing the experience and fixes should come in due time.
