'I'm the unluckiest driver': Frustrated Fernando Alonso's heartbreaking radio message at Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Image credit: Getty Images The frustration was all too evident for Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend, and a new radio message during the race summed it up perfectly. After the first virtual safety car period, Alonso made a telling remark over the team radio, declaring their race was 'over. ' Aston Martin had been eyeing a strong result at Imola, with both cars running in the top 10 early on. But things quickly unraveled. Unlucky Imola for Fernando Alonso Starting fifth on the grid, Fernando Alonso slipped to 14th after making a pit stop on Lap 12. Despite giving it everything, Alonso managed to claw his way back up to eighth. However, all his efforts were undone when Esteban Ocon's retirement triggered a safety car. That moment marked a turning point — and Alonso sensed it. Nothing was going to go his way. 'Yeah, our race is over,' Alonso stated on the radio during the VSC. 'We are so unlucky. Everything is wrong for us this year.' Still determined to fight back for points, Alonso pushed for a second stop on Lap 46. What followed was a heated exchange with his race engineer Andrew Vizard. When Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli stopped at the side of the track, Alonso radioed in again. 'It's gonna be virtual, or hopefully safety car or red flag or whatever they want.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo Alonso was audibly frustrated when the team instructed him to stay out. 'No, box!' the Spaniard said. 'We will unlap ourselves. Why do you want me to keep out? Box or not?' 'Stay out,' Vizard responded. 'Aw, come on,' Alonso replied in disbelief. 'Yeah, it's going to be torture, it's a wreck.' 'I'm the unluckiest driver in the f***ing world! It's wrong, our strategy. Not even safety car or anything like that will help us,' Alonso said. 'It's so unfair, so unfair,' he added. Vizard could only respond, 'It's bad, isn't it?' Alonso continued, 'Unbelievable. I mean, hundred races, only one of the 99 would be enough. It has to be the one of hundred.' Heavy rainfall predicted in Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, Pune, Kerala; are schools closed?

Heavy rainfall forecast across India: IMD issues alerts, no school closures yet. (IANS photo) As heavy rainfall lashes parts of southern and northern India, uncertainty looms over whether schools will remain open in the affected regions. As of May 19, 2025, there has been no official confirmation of school closures from district administrations. However, concerned parents and students are urged to stay alert by checking announcements on official district websites and government channels. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing multiple alerts, safety remains a growing concern for both educational institutions and local authorities. Several areas including Bangalore, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pune, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh have been placed on yellow and orange alerts. The IMD has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, which may result in traffic disruptions, power cuts, and flooding in low-lying areas. As a result, schools are monitoring the situation closely. Bangalore and Karnataka: Flooded streets and yellow alert continue According to PTI reports on May 19, heavy overnight rain in Bangalore led to waterlogging, submerged roads, and serious traffic congestion across the city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Undo The IMD Bengaluru centre confirmed that the city recorded 103 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The yellow alert remains in effect until May 21, with gusty winds of 50–60 km/h expected. Although schools remain open as of now, widespread calls for work-from-home and remote learning have surfaced due to unsafe travel conditions. Kerala: Orange alert in Thiruvananthapuram and neighbouring districts As per PTI, the IMD issued an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta, warning of very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm. Yellow alerts were sounded in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Thunderstorms with gusty winds at 40 km/h are forecast at isolated locations. So far, there has been no declaration of school holidays, but local authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather conditions closely. Tamil Nadu and Mumbai: Pre-monsoon showers and safety advisories In Mumbai and neighbouring areas like Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, the IMD (via ANI, May 19) forecast light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers and gusty winds reaching 50–60 km/h. IPL match today, LSG vs SRH: Team prediction, head-to-head, pitch report, Lucknow weather update

Captains Rishabh Pant and Pat Cummins (ANI Photo) Rishabh Pant will be eager to reset his faltering IPL campaign as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a crucial encounter on Monday. LSG must win all their remaining three matches to keep their slim play-off hopes alive, needing not just victories but dominant ones to overcome a poor net run rate of -0.469. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Pant, who fetched a record Rs 27 crore in the last IPL auction, has endured a torrid season, scoring just 128 runs in 11 games at an average of 12.80 and a strike rate below 100. With his name in contention for India's Test vice-captaincy, the LSG skipper will be keen to deliver impactful performances to boost both his form and image. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 35 & Earning? Players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ishan Kishan will look to gain form ahead of India A's England tour, while Abhishek Sharma will aim to prove a point after his omission. LSG will bank on Nicholas Pooran and openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Their bowling has struggled, with only Digvesh Rathi impressing. SRH's in-form batting could exploit LSG's inconsistent attack in this do-or-die match. LSG vs SRH: Pitch Report The red soil pitch offers a well-balanced contest between bat and ball. With a hard, well-rolled surface, it promises pace and bounce for the fast bowlers and some grip for spinners, especially in the first half. Average scores hover around 190, but the large ground dimensions — 72m and 60m square, 78m straight — can keep totals in check. The pitch has been used before and should allow for free-flowing stroke play, especially for top-order batters. Given previous match trends, it may slightly assist spin early and become better under lights, making it a likely "win the toss and chase" scenario. A light breeze and manageable humidity levels around 40% will ensure relatively comfortable playing conditions. India's port curbs threaten regional trade: Bangladesh

Agency photo DHAKA: Bangladeshi exporters are raising concerns over India's newly imposed port restrictions on key export items such as readymade garments (RMG) and processed foods, warning that the move will lead to 'delays, higher costs, and disruptions' in bilateral and regional trade. While experts view the restrictions as non-tariff barriers that could significantly impact Bangladesh's export competitiveness, the interim govt has said that any issues arising from the new measures will be addressed through dialogue, expressing hope that trade ties will remain stable. Commerce adviser SK Bashir Uddin on Sunday said the govt has not yet received any formal notification on the restrictions. Expressing optimism that trade will continue, he said, 'This is in the interest of consumers and production sectors on both sides.' Meanwhile, 17 trucks carrying food products were stuck at the Burimari border due to the restrictions. These truckloads of goods were scheduled to cross the border on Sunday morning and head to Siliguri (West Bengal). A former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said it will now take longer for Bangladeshi garments to reach their destinations than before, and costs will rise. 'That means exports will decrease to some extent,' he added. 'At a time when world trade is beset by various problems, such reciprocal trade restrictions will further increase the level of damage to both sides,' the exporter noted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo The commerce adviser also said the govt has started assessing the potential impact of the Indian govt's move. 'We have initiated a preliminary review to determine the steps Bangladesh should consider,' he said. On Saturday, in a 'retaliatory move', the Indian govt restricted the import of several products from Bangladesh, including a ban on the entry of readymade garments through the land route. In a notification issued on Saturday, the directorate general of foreign trade, however, allowed garments, the mainstay of Bangladesh industry, to be only shipped via Nhava Sheva and Kolkata ports. While fish, edible oil, LPG and crushed stones have been spared, import of several products via all land customs stations and integrated check posts in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Changrabandha and Fulbari in West Bengal will be discontinued.

Scientists gave ants caffeine—what happened next would blow your mind

Ants might be tiny, but they cause big problems. These little insects are smart, quick, and super organized. They travel across the world hidden in cargo ships, build huge colonies, and push out local bugs and animals. They're not just in your kitchen—they're everywhere. One of the worst offenders is the Argentine ant (Linepithema humile). It's only about one-tenth of an inch long, but it builds massive colonies that stretch for thousands of miles, especially along the U.S. and Mediterranean coasts. These ants can: Push out native insects Rob hummingbird feeders Even cause electrical problems by crawling into wires People often try to get rid of them using poison baits. But the problem is: the ants lose interest in the bait too quickly. They don't take enough of it back to the colony to kill the others. So scientists asked a weird but clever question: What if we gave ants a little bit of caffeine? Could it help them remember where the bait is? The study, published in the journal iScience, says yes, caffeine can help—but only in small amounts. How the experiment worked The scientists built a tiny 'ant course' using Legos and a plastic platform. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo Each ant walked across the platform to find a drop of sugar water. Some sugar drops had no caffeine, while others had low, medium, or very high levels of caffeine. They watched 142 ants, and each one did the course four times. Without caffeine, the ants walked around slowly and didn't improve. With a small or medium dose of caffeine, the ants remembered where the sugar was. They walked straighter and found it faster each time. 'We found that intermediate doses of caffeine actually boost learning – when you give them a bit of caffeine, it pushes them into having straighter paths and being able to reach the reward faster,' Galante said. Here's what they found: At 25 parts per million (ppm) of caffeine, ants got 28% faster on return trips. At 250 ppm, they got 38% faster. For example, if an ant took 300 seconds to find the sugar the first time, it could take only 54 seconds by the fourth time if given the right amount of caffeine! But they didn't walk faster—just more directly. That means they were focused and remembered the way. 'They're not moving faster, they're just being more focused on where they're going,' Galante explained. What about too much caffeine? At the highest dose (2,000 ppm), the ants didn't improve at all. In fact, it might even be dangerous to helpful bugs like bees. So the key is using just the right amount—not too much, not too little. 'The lowest dose we used is what you find in natural plants, the intermediate dose is similar to what you would find in some energy drinks, and the highest amount is set to be the LD50 of bees, where half the bees fed this dose die,' Galante said. Ants use chemical trails to lead their nest-mates to food. When one ant finds bait and remembers the way quickly, it lays a stronger trail, and more ants follow. The team is already testing caffeinated bait in Spain. They also plan to see how it works with regular poisons like spinosad and hydramethylnon.
