Safe Boat Awareness Week kicks off at Britannia Park Saturday
Emergency services in Ottawa are hosting an event to kick off Safe Boat Awareness Week at Britannia Park Saturday.
The event is hosted by the Ottawa Police Service and the Ottawa Paramedic Service. It will take place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about safe boating. I will include demonstrations of lifesaving equipment, boats and gear.
Residents are invited to meet first responders, check out emergency vehicles, play games and enjoy a popsicle.
Canadian Safe Boating Week runs from May 17-23.
Emergency services have provided some safe boating tips for the season, including wearing a properly fitted life jacket, as falling into cold water can be deadly. They say don't swim or operate a boat while being intoxicated, always tell someone where you are going. Boaters are also encouraged to carry a cellphone, a boat safety kit and enough fuel.
