Teenager drowns in Sungai Segamat

SEGAMAT: A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Sungai Segamat, behind a recreational park here, today. Segamat Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Hazim Abd Razak said they were alerted to the incident at 4.08pm. According to him, 11 personnel from the Segamat station, along with four assets, namely a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), two four-wheel-drive vehicles and a boat, were dispatched to the scene. He said the victim's body was found along the riverbank about five kilometres from where he was reported to have gone missing. The search operation ended at 6.40pm.

MUAR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The driver of a car, in his 40s, is still missing after the vehicle plunged into Sungai Kampung Tui near the Kampung Kecil bridge along Jalan Bukit Kepong in Pagoh earlier today. Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Nor Alfatah Omar, said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 3.22 pm. Seven firefighters from the Pagoh and Muar stations were dispatched to the scene, along with a Light Fire Rescue Tender and a Toyota Hilux 4WD.

SHAH ALAM: A fruit shop was severely damaged after carbide (calcium carbide) used to accelerate the ripening process of fruits suddenly exploded in an incident in Bandar Baru Klang, near here today. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received a call at 5:21 pm before deploying eight officers and personnel from the North Klang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) along with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) to the scene. 'Upon arrival at the location, it was confirmed that an explosion had occurred at the back of a fruit shop measuring 7,000 square feet. 'The impact of the explosion caused the collapse of the office wall structure of the shop, which measured 900 square feet,' he said in a statement today. Ahmad Mukhlis said the impact of the explosion also caused damage to six cars parked in the vicinity. However, no casualties were involved in the incident, he said.
