Honda's Racing Arm to Auction V-10 Parts from Senna's F1 Car

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) will auction off engine parts from Ayrton Senna's 1990 Formula 1 race car. The auction is part of HRC's new memorabilia business, which will eventually include other historic items from its motorsports collection. The first auction will be held during Monterey Car Week in August, and available parts from Honda's RA100E V-10 include camshafts and pistons. It used to be you'd go to a swap meet to get used engine parts, but Honda's racing division—Honda Racing Corporation, HRC for short—is taking that concept to the next level. Later this year, HRC will auction off actual parts from the Honda V-10 engine that powered Ayrton Senna's championship-winning Formula 1 race car during the 1990 season. The auction, which will be held during Monterey Car Week this August, will help launch HRC's new memorabilia business. Not only will collectors and fans alike be able to bid on rare parts from Senna's race car (also driven by Gerhard Berger during the '90 F1 season), but they'll eventually have the chance to own other motorsports memorabilia, such as signed items and limited-edition collectibles. As for the parts from Senna's F1 engine, HRC says the RA100E V-10 was disassembled at its factory in Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The people who pulled it apart were also the original builders, so you can expect extra care was taken there. The parts that will be up for auction include camshafts, connecting rods, pistons, valve covers, and various other exterior and internal bits. They'll be put in display cases and sold with a certificate of authenticity so you can brag to all your buds that you own a piece of history. HRC is also currently trying to source parts from iconic racing motorcycles, IndyCars, and even vehicles from its heritage collection to auction off or privately sell. "We aim to make this a valuable business that allows fans who love F1, MotoGP, and various other races to share in the history of Honda's challenges in racing since the 1950s.' said HRC President Koji Watanabe. 'Including our fans to own a part of Honda's racing history is not intended to be a one-time endeavor, but rather a continuous business that we will nurture and grow.' California Now Has Nearly 50 Percent More EV Plugs Than Gas Pumps

California says that the number of public EV chargers in the state has officially exceeded the number of gas pumps in the state. A release from California Gov. Gavin Newsome's office says the state now has 178,549 public and shared private EV chargers compared with 120,000 gas pumps. The vast majority of those chargers are Level 2 chargers, though there are roughly 17,000 fast-chargers spread throughout the Golden State. It's no secret that California is leading the charge toward electrifying American roads. It's the state that birthed Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors, after all. Now, according to a new memo released by the governor's office, California's EV chargers outnumber the state's gas pumps by a considerable margin. Last week, California's governor, Gavin Newsom, announced that California has now installed 178,549 public and shared private EV chargers throughout the state. The vast majority of public chargers in the state are Level 2 chargers, which account for 162,000 plugs. The remaining 16,500 chargers are DC fast-chargers. In comparison, the California Energy Commission (CEC) estimates there are around 120,000 gas pumps in the state, meaning public EV chargers outnumber gas nozzles by nearly 50 percent. The numbers become even more staggering when you bring home charging into the equation. The CEC estimates there are roughly 700,000 Level 2 chargers installed at single-family homes throughout California. The CEC also showed how the number of chargers has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, with plans to improve EV infrastructure even more in the coming years. In December 2024, the CEC approved a $1.4 billion investment plan to expand both EV charging infrastructure and access to hydrogen fuel—though that could face challenges in light of the Trump administration's attack on what the president calls the "EV mandate." Read the full review Yes, the Cadillac Escalade IQ is a bit of a porker. But its big estimated curb weight includes a rather sizable battery that gives it an impressive overall range. The transparent size of the Escalade IQ is hard to comprehend in pictures. It weighs approximately 9000 pounds, due in no small part to its 205.0-kWh battery. The IQ is about 15 inches longer than a standard Escalade, which is already pretty darn long. The battery is good for a claimed 460 miles of range. Because the IQ's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is over 10,000 pounds, this vehicle is actually exempt from EPA testing and labeling requirements. A pair of electric motors produces up to 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in Velocity Max mode. The Escalade IQ has massive 24-inch wheels. Nissan's New CEO Previously Said He Wanted to Revive the Silvia

has named Ivan Espinosa its new CEO, and he succeeds Makoto Uchida, who has held the position since 2019. Espinosa has been involved in Nissan's global product planning since 2010 and has acted as chief planning officer since April 2024. Espinosa faces a steep uphill battle as Nissan continues to face financial troubles and falling sales figures. Nissan has appointed Ivan Espinosa as its new CEO, and his promotion is intended to revive employee confidence in the company's top management. He was chosen today at a board of directors meeting and will take over the role on April 1. He succeeds Makoto Uchida, who has held the position of global CEO since 2019. Espinosa is a well-known figure within Nissan, having joined the company in 2003, and he has been the chief planning officer since April 2024. He takes the reigns from Uchida while Nissan is in a precarious position. Sales are down, merger talks with Honda fell through, and Automotive News reports that the company's credit rating is now considered to be junk status. In a news conference, Uchida apologized for leaving his role with the company in its current position. "I deeply regret that I had to pass the baton to my successor in these circumstances," the former CEO said. Speaking at a press conference after being named CEO, Espinosa said he wants to investigate Nissan's entire strategy in North America, according to a separate AN report. "We're going to be looking at the whole system," he said. One potential avenue Espinosa could use to try and claw Nissan back to stability could involve more enthusiast vehicles. While acting as VP of global strategy, Espinosa said it was his dream to build a new version of the Nissan Silvia. "It'll be a challenge," he said at the time. "But it's my job to find ways to do stuff like this because I think it'll be great for customers and the brand, and if I can put the right formula in place, we could make it work." Of course, Espinosa will need to focus on bringing the embattled automaker back to profitability before Nissan can allocate resources to a new sports car. Still, with order books for the R35-generation GT-R officially closed and no replacement in sight, Nissan is without a current halo model. While reviving the Silvia currently looks like a moonshot, it's at least on the table now that Espinosa is leading the company.
