Camp Cadet makes return to Allegheny College this weekend
Pennsylvania State Police will be welcoming dozens of kids throughout the region for a week-long camp that builds self-esteem, discipline, and sparks new friendships. Camp Cadet is making its return at Allegheny College on Sunday. Great American Book Sale returning for 2025 with options for everyone Boys and girls ages 12-15 from across Erie, Warren, Crawford and Venango counties will spend the week there, taking part in numerous activities to build character. It gives kids the opportunity to learn hands-on from the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police, getting them up close and personal with special response teams, helicopter search and rescue crews and more specialized members of the force. Light up the night: when, where you can watch Erie's annual fireworks show
The vibrant eruption of color and thundering sound returns to the the skies over Presque Isle Bay on July Joe Schember announced on June 5 that the city's annual Lights Over Lake Erie fireworks display returns to Dobbins Landing one day before the July 4 holiday. The fireworks show, presented once again by Pyrotecnico Fireworks of New Castle, will begin at 10 p.m. 'We are grateful that we can continue this tradition,' Schember said, noting that the event is co-sponsored by Highmark and the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority. The event is funded in part by a $15,000 events grant from the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority.'We know how much these fireworks mean to the community,' said Julie Slomski, the Port Authority's executive director. As is the case annually, residents and visitors can view the fireworks from various vantage points along Erie's waterfront, including the east and west bayfront bluffs and Bayview Park near East Second and Cherry streets; Presque Isle State Park; from a boat in Presque Isle Bay, or from almost anywhere that provides a view of the Bicentennial Tower. Gabi Watson, the city's events manager, said Dobbins Landing and the lower State Street area will be closed to vehicle traffic during the event. The Erie Parking Authority will provide free parking at select downtown parking garages for those attending the fireworks. That includes the garages near West Seventh/West Eighth and Peach streets and East Eighth and French streets. The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority will run free shuttle buses to/from downtown areas near those garages, Watson said. Brig Niagara arrives in Maine to undergo $5 million worth of repairs
The U.S. Brig Niagara arrived Thursday afternoon at a shipyard in Maine, where it will receive needed repairs. It's anticipated that the ship will spend a year there. A fixture on Lake Erie since 1990, the Brig Niagara has been out of commission since 2023. It is slated to make a return to Erie in July of 2026, in time to celebrate the country's 250th birthday. City of Erie announces Lights Over Lake Erie event details
The City of Erie has announced the date of its annual Fourth of July fireworks show. Lights Over Lake Erie will take place on Thursday, July 3, at 10 p.m. on the bay. NAMI Erie rocks the bayfront at new fundraiser event The city is expecting thousands of people to gather, and with the high volumes, officials recommend making plans ahead of time. Events manager Gabi Watson said there are spots all over Erie to view the show. Annual Equipment Day returns to Erie Zoo this weekend She added that anywhere you can see the Bicentennial Tower is a great spot. 'There's a countdown, and it just kind of brings a sense of community together. It's really nice to see the amounts of people that come to these shows, so I think just seeing everybody so excited to watch the fireworks,' said Watson. 'Be careful, be comfortable, be aware of your surroundings. We want you to enjoy the show and make it home safely as well.'
