Director fined for unauthorised distribution of subsidised diesel
JOHOR BARU: A toxic waste management company director was slapped with a RM110,000 fine by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to the distribution of subsidised diesel. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN)'s Johor director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said Ong Kong Hong, 45, was brought to court on Monday (June 30), where he made the plea. 'He was charged for possessing about 46,000 litres of diesel worth RM115,000. 'The activities were uncovered when a KPDN enforcement team raided his toxic waste management company in Masai at around 12pm on April 17, 2022, upon receiving information from the police,' she said in a statement on Tuesday (July 1). The offence was framed under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Lilis Saslinda added that Sessions judge Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim ordered Ong to pay a fine of RM110,000 in default of eight months' imprisonment. The court also instructed for the diesel, a lorry and tanker that were seized during the raid to be confiscated by the government. The case was prosecuted by KPDN's deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Mahadi. Ong, who was represented by a counsel, paid the fine.

Johor KPDN busts LPG misappropriation syndicate, seizes goods worth RM200,000
KLUANG: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in Johor has crippled a syndicate misappropriating subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) operating under the guise of a palm oil weighing centre in Machap on Wednesday. Its director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said the scheme was uncovered during a joint raid with the Putrajaya branch at 8 pm, during which they discovered 1,176 gas cylinders, both empty and filled, estimated to weigh 4,000 kilogrammes (kg) and worth RM200,000. Also found at the premises was a lorry tank. 'The modus operandi of the syndicate is using an old storage facility behind the palm oil collection and weighing centre to transfer subsidised 14kg LPG into a lorry tank using a method known as decanting. 'It is believed that the misappropriated gas was intended for industrial use. Further investigation is underway to determine whether it was meant for the local market or otherwise,' she told a press conference here today. Two workers, a local and an Indonesian national, both in their 30s, were also arrested following the raid. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

KPDN urges haj scam victims to file claims with consumer tribunal
JOHOR BAHRU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has urged victims of fraudulent haj packages to file complaints with the Tribunal for Consumer Claims (TTPM) to seek appropriate compensation. Deputy Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh said the ministry has yet to receive any official complaints but encouraged affected individuals to come forward. 'Some victims may not be aware of their rights. Through TTPM, they can file claims of up to RM50,000. 'Many assume that lodging a police report is sufficient, but we also urge them to report the matter to TTPM,' she told reporters after launching the Enforcement and Consumer Advocacy Programme here today. Complaints can be submitted at any KPDN branch nationwide or online. Also present were Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo and state chief enforcement officer Mohd Fuzi Hadi Abd Latif. Fuziah said TTPM will assess each case based on the details provided, including the amount paid, promises made, and the actual services received. She also advised consumers to remain vigilant and not hesitate to lodge complaints if their rights have been compromised. Recently, the media reported that 47 Malaysians were allegedly scammed by a local haj agent, believed to involve a well-known religious figure. The victims were reportedly forced to walk through dangerous routes without proper documentation after arriving in Jeddah, following strict enforcement by Saudi authorities against pilgrims without haj visas. Police have since detained two individuals with the title 'ustaz' to assist in the investigation.
