Playground, pickleball courts and trails part of $2.8M upgrade to Franklin Township park

Families and residents can look forward to a new playground at Franklin Township Community Park along with other improvements to 99-acre park. Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indy Parks said the start of the $2.8 million construction project will feature a new playground, pickleball and basketball courts, and paved trails. It'll be funded through a Lilly Endowment Grant. 'The work happening at Franklin Township Community Park marks the beginning of additional quality-of-life improvements coming to our southside neighborhoods,' Hogsett said. District 25 City-County Councilor Brian Mowery said investments like these ensure that Franklin Township continues to grow as a vibrant community. 'With new playgrounds, trails, and courts, families and residents of all ages will have more opportunities to stay active and connected," Mowery said. "I'm excited to see these improvements in our parks take shape and the positive impact they will have on our community.' Franklin Township Community Park is the third to begin construction in the last two weeks. The $80 million Lilly grant is being used to upgrade 42 parks as part of a $140 million investment in the Indy Parks system, the city said.
