FRIDAY THE 13TH Prequel Series Casts Callum Vinson as Jason Voorhees, Adds 4 More Recurring Stars — GeekTyrant

Peacock's highly anticipated Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake has officially added five new recurring guest stars to its cast. Leading the new additions is Callum Vinson ( Chucky, Long Bright River ), who will take on the role of a young Jason Voorhees. Vinson joins previously announced series lead Linda Cardellini, who stars as Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees. The prequel will explore Pamela's life before the bloody events that launched one of horror's most iconic franchises. Alongside Vinson, the recurring cast now includes Nick Cordileone ( Warrior ) as Ralph, Joy Suprano ( Fleishman Is in Trouble, Best Foot Forward ) as Rita, Danielle Kotch ( Director's Cut ) as Claudette, and Phoenix Parnevik ( Bel-Air, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead ) as Barry. They join series regulars William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but fans can expect the show to dive deep into Pamela's backstory and the origins of Camp Crystal Lake. Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer. A24 is producing, with original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller returning as an executive producer alongside Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, and Tyson Bidner. Michael Lennox will executive produce and direct the first three episodes, while Celine Hind and Logan George handle episodes four through six, and Quyen Tran directs episodes seven and eight. Crystal Lake was given a straight-to-series order by Peacock in 2022. With A24 behind the project and this growing cast, expectations are high for a chilling dive into the dark roots of one of horror's most infamous legends.

‘Crystal Lake' Casts a Familiar Horror Face as Little Jason Voorhees

Horror fans are excitedly awaiting Peacock's Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake—and now we know who'll be playing the younger version of Jason Voorhees. Long before he decided a hockey mask and machete were an ideal killing-spree combo, and even before he drowned at summer camp, he was just a little kid with an eccentric mother. Presumably. We don't know too many details about the show yet, but we know Linda Cardellini is playing Pamela Voorhees—and now we know Callum Vinson is Jason. You might not recognize the name, but the face could ring a bell if you're a fan of horror TV, especially horror TV inspired by popular movies. Vinson co-starred on the fourth and final season of Chucky, playing the President of the United States' youngest son. He's Chucky's entry point into the White House, innocently helping the evil doll launch his latest scheme to rule the world and/or end the world, or possibly both. As Deadline points out, 'Vinson is billed as a recurring guest star, as this new project focuses on Pamela.' Still, you had to have a Jason, and this kid has some serious genre credibility, so this feels like an excellent choice. The trade also shared more casting news, with Crystal Lake adding some characters that aren't as famous as Jason, but that Friday the 13th superfans will recognize: Nick Cordileone as Ralph, Danielle Kotch as Claudette, and Phoenix Parnevik as Barry. Ralph, aka 'Crazy Ralph,' is the Crystal Lake area drifter who warns young folks (or tries to warn them, anyway) not to go to 'Camp Blood.' Barry and Claudette are Pamela's first victims (killed in the 1980 film's 1958-set prologue). Joy Suprano is also aboard as a character named Rita. Crystal Lake doesn't yet have a Peacock arrival date, but later this year or 2026 seems likely. Want more io9 news? No Good Deed Done (For Now) at Netflix

No Good Deed won't be burying any more secrets at Netflix — for now, at least. The series has no plans for a Season 2, though there is a theoretical possibility that it could continue down the road as an anthology with a new cast, per our sister site Deadline. TVLine has reached out to Netflix for comment. More from TVLine Pulse Cancelled at Netflix After 1 Season The Residence Cancelled at Netflix The Last of Us Co-Creator to Depart Ahead of Season 3: 'Now Is the Right Time' No Good Deed Season 1, which debuted in December 2024, followed Lydia (played by Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano) as they moved out of their empty nest to restart their life. They sparked a real estate frenzy after listing their Spanish-style villa in one of Los Angeles' most desirable neighborhoods. But the couple got caught up in their own craze as they tried to bury secrets surrounding their son's murder, which took place in the home. (Turned out, they had nothing to hide: As it was revealed in the finale, their daughter didn't mistakenly kill her brother, as they initially thought. He was murdered by their neighbor Margo, played by Linda Cardellini.) In addition to Kudrow, Romano and Cardellini, the series starred Luke Wilson (DC's Stargirl) as JD Campbell, a depressed, out-of-work soap star seeking to downsize; Teyonah Parris (The Marvels) as Carla, a high-achieving and somewhat sardonic architect and expectant mother; Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) as Leslie Fisher, who was thrilled to discover the Los Feliz home she and her wife had admired from afar was finally on the market; and Poppy Liu (Hacks) as Leslie's soulful, grounded and decent wife Sarah. O-T Fagbenle (Presumed Innocent) and Denis Leary (Rescue Me) starred as Dennis and Mikey, respectively. Why Does the Return of ‘Friday the 13th' Have to Be… Like This?

Though previously troubled, the Peacock and A24 series Crystal Lake is now moving full speed ahead—Linda Cardellini will star as Jason Voorhees' equally murderous mom, Pamela Voorhees—Friday the 13th fans are still longing to see Jason return to the big screen. The rights to the franchise have been in a legal tangle for years, with Sean S. Cunningham, who directed and produced the 1980 original, recently speculating that a new Friday the 13th movie is still a far-off notion. That's still seemingly true, but the first big announcement from the 'Jason Universe' (other than its existence, which was revealed in May 2024) is indeed reviving our favorite hockey-masked killer. Just not in the way fans are maybe hoping for. When it was announced, it was made clear that the 'Jason Universe'—created by Horror, Inc., 'the original owners of the Friday the 13th film franchise'—is meant to encompass 'a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise, and more,' with 'movies' notably absent from that list. So maybe we should be pleased that we are getting a film of sorts: Sweet Revenge, a 'short-form vignette' directed by Mike P. Nelson (the 2021 Wrong Turn reboot, the upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot). Sweet Revenge is touted as 'the centerpiece of the franchise's bold 45th anniversary campaign,' according to a press release. It went into production this month, and fans will be able to watch it eventually on the Jason Universe YouTube channel as well as… 'a dedicated microsite hosted by Angry Orchard Hard Cider,' which is 'sponsoring the vignette tied to a larger collaboration with Horror Inc.'s Jason Universe, which will continue to roll out for fans later this summer.' Nelson is a solid choice to tackle a new entry in the Friday the 13th series; with Wrong Turn, he proved more than capable of breathing new life into a long-running horror franchise. We're just not loving the commercial aspect, especially when it's packaged with quotes like this: 'Angry Orchard fans love bold, unexpected entertainment—especially horror—so this partnership just made sense,' said Matt Withington, senior director of marketing at Angry Orchard. 'It's a perfect way to celebrate 45 years of an iconic franchise while creating new experiences for our drinkers in a space that they are already passionate about. We can't wait to continue to bring the partnership to life this year.' We get it—someone's got to put up the bucks to fund Sweet Revenge, and at least it's a company that professes to love horror and its fans. But it still feels a little off-putting, does it not? We'll wait to see Sweet Revenge before we prematurely drown ourselves in Crystal Lake, but you have to imagine some level of product placement is going to be a part of this.
