Kuching insurance company manager claims trial to using forged document

KUCHING (July 24): A 42-year-old insurance company manager claimed trial in the Magistrates' Court here today to a charge of using as genuine a forged document three years ago. Ling Swee Loi entered the plea before Magistrate Heng Yi Min after being charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 465 of the same Code. The Section provides for up to two years in prison, or with a fine, or both upon conviction. According to Section 417 of the Penal Code, whoever fraudulently or dishonestly uses as genuine any document which he knows or has reason to believe to be a forged document, shall be punished in the same manner as if he had forged such document. Heng granted Ling bail of RM2,500 with one local surety and fixed Aug 27, 2025 for the next hearing. According to the charge, Ling is accused of dishonestly using a forged Life Insurance Proposal Form (regular premium) under the name of a 41-year-old man as a genuine document, which also contained his forged signature. The alleged offence took place at a premises in Lorong Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce 12 here around 4.17pm on June 15, 2022. Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Ling was represented by counsels Tiong Ing Neng and Alex Kong. *An earlier version of this report has been amended*
