New Lionesses teen icon Michelle Agyemang enjoys perfect homecoming after Euros heroics

Michelle Agyemang became England's new go-to hero off the bench during the Euros, and she enjoyed a perfect homecoming at Southend Airport on Monday England's teenage star Michelle Agyemang could be forgiven for singing 'I'm coming home, I'm coming home' as she landed at Southend Airport this afternoon. ‌ The brilliant 19-year-old striker went to a school just two and a half miles away from the airport. Not long ago she was scrambling to get a seat on the bus to Southend High School. ‌ Now this afternoon she is climbing aboard getting a luxury bus with a police escort all the way to Downing St. It was a fairytale homecoming for Michelle, who lives in the nearby town of South Ockendon. ‌ Jason Carey, headteacher at Southend High School for Girls, said: 'We are incredibly proud of Michelle. To see a former Southend High School for Girls student reach the highest levels of international sport is something truly special. 'Her dedication, resilience and pursuit of excellence were evident even during her time with us. High School coach April Smith spotted her potential when she was one of about 30 players taking part in lunchtime kick about matches. She said: "There was just something really special about her, not just from a playing perspective, but a mentality perspective. 'She always wanted to do more, always worked really hard. "You just want to nurture that talent and you want to make sure she goes and plays on the best stages and that's exactly what she's doing and she's taking everything in her stride. ‌ "She's come from a little place in Essex, so it does make you really proud, just knowing that people will grow up one day... little girls saying they want to go and play like Michelle Agyemang. "It's incredible, it's what every coach wants. She is a coach's dream." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. England's Lionesses get hero's welcome as they land back in UK after Euros glory

The Lionesses landed back in England this afternoon to an amazing welcome. The plane carrying the team arrived at Southend airport in Essex. The FA tried to keep the airport they were arriving in secret, for security reasons, but hundreds of fans managed to find out and arrived to cheer their heroes. Some waited for over two hours in the warm sun waiting for the flight to arrive from Zurich. Many brought St George flags which they draped over the fences outside the tiny private jet terminal. FA staff also attached several of their own flags to welcome the team home. Chloe Richardson, 19, from Basildon said: 'I saw on a local website that the England plane was coming in and I rushed here from home. 'They have done so well. They've made the nation proud. We are so pleased they came back to Southend.' The only hotel next to the airport, the Holiday Inn, put up St George flags on their windows of the restaurant which the players could clearly see when they landed. Several supporters sat in the bar supping beers as they followed the Titan Air flight on tracking apps. The champions then headed off to a reception at 10 Downing Street. Tomorrow will see a victory parade through central London. Today was certainly a far cry from the last time I went to an airport to cover the arrival of an England team. It was 35 years ago way back in 1990. Hundreds of thousands of people descended on Luton airport to welcome the men's team return from the Italia '90 tournament. It was a vastly different era - Paul Gascoigne was wearing a pair of fake breasts. Gazza was in his element in scenes that just wouldn't happen today. In 1990 England fans had been starved of success; they celebrated like they won the World Cup when they got knocked out in the semi-finals on penalties by Germany. Last night's Lionesses of course showed great composure and won their big match on penalties. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. The opening of tonight's episode will see Tony Audenshaw's Bob Hope chat with Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) about last night's exciting football match. Lioness Lucy Bronze mocks England doubters with witty "masterplan" video after Euros win

England's women claimed Euro 2025 glory against Spain and Lucy Bronze has posted a witty video with Esme Morgan joking about their masterplan to reclaim their title Lucy Bronze posted a video on Instagram joking that England women's loss to France to begin Euro 2025 was "all part of the plan" so that other teams would "underestimate" them. ‌ The Lionesses saw off Spain on penalties to retain their European crown with Chloe Kelly hammering home the winning kick after the match had finished 1-1. Rewind several weeks, though, and Sarina Wiegman 's side endured a forgettable start to their defence. ‌ They lost 2-1 to France in their opener and it led defender Jess Carter to claim they "played like they were a little bit scared". ‌ But that has all been forgotten and Bronze has been able to see the funny side of the loss as she and Esme Morgan posted a video together from the changing rooms. The duo were shaking hands as Bronze began: "Losing the first game so everyone underestimated us". The camera then panned to Morgan as the video continued: "Sike! All part of the plan to bring it home again!!" Bronze, holding her medal, finished: "European champions back to back". The Lionesses became the first nation to retain the women's Euros since Germany won six in a row from 1995 to 2013 as they also settled a personal score with Spain, who had beaten them in the World Cup final several years ago. Bronze herself has earned huge accolades after playing through the pain barrier. She's been seen holding her leg for several games, which has required strapping during the tournament. During the final she was limping again but managed 105 minutes, before leaving the pitch in tears as she was forced off. Bronze said: "I just hurt my knee today on the other leg. That is why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game because I have been in a lot of pain. ‌ "But if that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do - they know that. We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end, in the end." She joked though that her injury would not halt her ability to celebrate: "It's very painful. I am going to party, I am going to enjoy it and that's it." Wiegman said on Bronze's efforts: "She had some issues with her tibia so of course we tried to manage that. When you play 120 minutes you're not managing it are you? The whole team has a great mentality but she has a crazy mentality, it's unbelievable." England land mega-money pay day as Lionesses claim historic Euro 2025 triumph

England Lionesses have made history by winning Euro 2025 to retain their crown and the nation's heroes are set to bank a bumper financial windfall as a result of their triumph The England squad are in line for a bumper £15million payday after winning retaining their Euros crown courtesy of a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain. ‌ The Lionesses triumped 3-1 on penalties after finding themselves deadlocked at 1-1 with the world champions after 120 minutes in Basel. Alessia Russo's second half header wiped out Mariona Caldentey's opener to take the game to extra-time and then penalties. ‌ And after Hannah Hampton saved two spot-kicks in a row, a third missed penalty from Spain set the stage for Chloe Kelly to plunder the winning penalty. ‌ Sarina Wiegman's side have made history by going back-to-back at the Euros - and they will be rewarded handsomely for their heroics in Switzerland. Mirror Football outlined on the eve of Sunday's big final that the England squad would bank around £15m collectively thanks to FA bonus payments, sponsorship bonuses, endorsement deals and social media pay. That includes a £1.7m bonus from the FA, with each player set to receive £73,000: an £18,000 increase on the prize they landed for winning the Euros in 2022. England's superstars could also land fresh endorsement deals worth £10m, which would double their earnings to more than £1m a year each. As well as a place in history and a financial windfall, England's achievements will be recognised with a victory parade in London on Tuesday. ‌ Mark Bullingham, the FA's chief executive, confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "Our history-making Lionesses are Champions of Europe for the second successive time, and have become the first England Senior team in history to win a tournament overseas. "We are so proud of all of the players, Sarina and the support team who have all been part of this incredible achievement. They have all worked unbelievably hard and we know the nation shares our pride. The victory celebration in London on Tuesday will give England fans an opportunity to celebrate with the players, and be part of history. "We've had amazing support from our fans both in Switzerland and at home throughout the tournament, and we look forward to celebrating together and creating some lifelong memories."
