Russian ‘alligator' obliterates Ukrainian drone (VIDEO)
A new video appeared online on Thursday purportedly showing the moment a Russian Ka-52 'Alligator' attack helicopter took down a Ukrainian kamikaze drone. The video, said to be taken by fishermen in Lipetsk Region, shows a large fixed-wing UAV flying at low altitude. The aircraft is chased by the attack helicopter, which shoots an anti-aircraft missile at the drone out of view of the camera. The blast shatters the drone into small bits to the cheers of the fishermen, the video shows. Moscow has been actively using attack helicopters as interceptors to repel Ukrainian long-range drone attacks. Conventional fighter jets are not suited for such a role, as the low speeds and altitudes of the drones pose a danger to intercepting aircraft. Kiev's attempts to use fighter jets to repel Russian Geran-2 kamikaze drone strikes have repeatedly resulted in loss of the aircraft due to technical reasons, friendly fire from the ground, and damage sustained by the jets from UAVs exploding mid-air. Both sides of the conflict have actively exchanged long-range strikes lately. In recent days, for instance, the Russian military repeatedly attacked so-called Territorial Centers of Recruitment and Social Support (TCR) enlistment offices overseeing Ukraine's chaotic mobilization drive, as well as other military and dual-use targets. The Ukrainian military has continued its apparently indiscriminate attack on Russia. This week, Voronezh became one of the prime targets for Kiev's troops, who scored multiple hits on residential buildings across the city. The Russian authorities have accused Ukraine of resorting to attacks on civilian infrastructure to compensate for military setbacks on the front line. Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky reiterated on Sunday his intention to 'bring the war to Russian territory,' saying his government is planning additional long-range strikes against the country.

Ukrainian drone attacks wound 18 people in Russian regions, governors say
MOSCOW, July 15 (Reuters) - At least 18 people were wounded and houses and other buildings damaged in Ukrainian drone attacks overnight in the Russian regions of Voronezh, Lipetsk and Bryansk, governors there said on Tuesday. Russia's air defence units destroyed 12 drones over the Voronezh region, which borders Ukraine, Governor Alexander Gusev said on the Telegram messaging app. Sixteen people, including a teenager, were hurt as a result of the attack, he said. Residential buildings in the city of Voronezh and its outskirts were damaged, along with regional commercial facilities. Unverified video published by Mash, a Telegram channel close to Russian security services, showed an aerial object crashing into a building on a busy residential street in Voronezh, followed by a large fireball. The city's mayor, Sergei Petrin, said a kindergarten had been damaged and children were being temporarily transferred to neighbouring facilities. In the city of Yelets in the Lipetsk region, a drone crashed in an industrial zone, injuring one person, regional governor Igor Artamonov said on Telegram. In the Bryansk region, a woman was injured in a drone attack on the village of Sluchevsk, said the regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz. The Russian defence ministry said on Telegram that its units destroyed 55 Ukrainian drones overnight over five Russian regions and the Black Sea, including three over the Lipetsk region. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine about the attacks. Both sides deny targeting civilians in their strikes during the war that Russia launched against Ukraine more than three years ago. But thousands of civilians have died in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainian. Ukraine has launched multiple air strikes on Lipetsk, a strategically important region with an air base that is the chief training centre for the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Ukraine drone attacks kill two in Russia and target Moscow, Russian authorities say
Ukraine 's overnight and early Friday morning drone attacks killed two people in Russia and attempted to hit targets in Moscow, Russian authorities said. Russian air defences downed 155 Ukrainian drones between 11pm local time (8pm Irish time) on Thursday and 7am on Friday, including 11 bound for Moscow, Russia's defence ministry said on the Telegram messaging app. Three of the four airports serving the Russian capital, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky, temporarily suspended operations but later resumed, Russia's aviation authority Rosaviatsia said. A drone crashed on to the territory of an agricultural enterprise in the Lipetsk region, sparking a short-lived fire and killing one person and injuring another, regional governor Igor Artamonov said on Telegram. The Russian defence ministry said that its air defence systems destroyed four drones over the Lipetsk region that lies in Russia's southwest. The ministry only reports the number of drones that its units destroy, not how many Ukraine launches. READ MORE Most of the drones overnight were destroyed over Russian regions bordering Ukraine: Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk, the ministry added. One person was killed and another injured in a Ukrainian attack on the Tula region, about 200km south of Moscow, regional governor Dmitry Milyaev said on Telegram. The mayor of the port city of Taganrog in southwestern Russia, Svetlana Kambulova, said on Telegram that drone debris fell on to the Beriev aircraft manufacturer. Kambulova did not say whether there was any damage as a result of the attack, but added there were no injuries. Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine. Kyiv says its attacks on Russian territory are aimed at destroying infrastructure key to Moscow's war efforts and are in response to Russia's continued strikes on Ukraine throughout the war. Moscow has escalated its attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, launching a record number of drones that have targeted Kyiv and cities throughout Ukraine and killed scores of civilians, Ukrainian officials said. Kyiv city authorities said on Friday they will allocate 260 million hryvnias (€5.3 million) for a drone interceptor programme to defend the capital's skies from Russian drones. 'These funds will be used not only to purchase equipment, but also to create an effective response system,' the head of Kyiv city military administration Tymur Tkachenko wrote on the Telegram messaging app. Both Russia and Ukraine sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia launched against its smaller neighbour in February 2022. Thousands of civilians have died in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainian. – Reuters
