1 injured following shooting involving APD officers
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said an officer was involved in a shooting late Saturday evening following an attempted traffic stop on a stolen vehicle. APD said when officers attempted to make the stop, the stolen vehicle quickly drove away and led police on a short pursuit before crashing. The call reporting the incident came in at approximately 11:15 p.m. According to police, gunshots were exchanged between the suspect and officers at the scene after the crash. No officers were injured during the incident, and the suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During a briefing early Sunday, APD Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect fired shots at police as they approached the crash scene. 'We are very fortunate tonight that we are not reporting on an officer being shot or an officer being killed,' Davis said, 'and I want to say that the officers, again, acted very bravely in the situation where they're being fired upon, and they took action.' APD said the investigation was early on, and it was working to get the details of what led to the shooting. This was the department's third shooting involving officers in May. Grandma and 2 Grandchildren Narrowly Escape Manhole Explosion in Dramatic Moment Caught on Video: Watch
A grandmother and her two grandchildren narrowly escaped death after a manhole exploded seconds after they walked over it. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, April 19, in the city of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., which is about 85 miles north of New York City, per a statement from the Poughkeepsie Fire Department. In a video shared by the department, the woman can be seen walking with a child beside her, and another in a stroller, as the explosion takes place, causing them to run away. The Poughkeepsie Fire Department detailed that a manhole "halfway down the block," as well as another on a nearby corner, "had also exploded, very narrowly missing three pedestrians." "Thankfully, no injuries were reported," the fire organization added. Speaking to ABC 7, Lisa Davis, the grandmother, said she was walking home from an Easter egg hunt with her grandchildren when the explosion occurred. "I was like, 'Oh my God, I don't know' — I didn't know where to go," she told the outlet. "I didn't know what to do except grab my grandson and run," Davis continued, adding, 'I couldn't really run straight ahead of me to the corner because the manhole at the next corner blew up, too.' The organization is "currently reviewing the affected cable to determine the cause of the fault and ensure the continued safety and reliability of [the] infrastructure," Donat added, per Central Hudson. Horror moment grandma almost loses grandkids in manhole explosion
Shocking footage captured the horrifying moment a manhole explosion nearly hit a grandmother and her two grandkids in New York. Lisa Davis and her grandkids were walking home from an Easter egg hunt on Sunday when the manhole exploded mere seconds after they walked by, sending debris and pieces of concrete flying through the air. 'I was like, 'Oh my God,'; I didn't know where to go,' Davis told ABC 7 of coming 'one foot [from] losing my family.' Davis and her 6-year-old grandson can be seen running as she pushes her younger grandchild in a stroller, with the explosion barely missing them. 'I didn't know what to do except grab my grandson and run,' she said. 'I couldn't really run straight ahead of me to the corner because the manhole at the next corner blew up too,' she said. When firefighters arrived, they found high levels of gas in the craters left in the pavement. Three manholes in total exploded in a chain reaction. Davis said it wasn't until she saw the footage that she realized just how close her family was to danger. 'A foot, one foot [from] losing my family,' she said. While the grandmother said she was still hesitant to walk on sidewalks, her grandson said he isn't that worried.
