Career center hosts competition giving students opportunity to network with employers
CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – The talents of many students are on display Friday at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center.
The school is hosting the Ohio Northeast Regionals SkillsUSA Competition.
About 800 students are competing across 30 different skill categories, including cosmetology, crime scene investigation and welding.
More than 1,000 are in attendance, including students, educators, industry professionals and local legislators.
This event will create opportunities for students to network, collaborate and map out their careers.
'We are training our students in Mahoning County in all of these areas in the trades. So getting tradesmen and tradeswomen in here to judge the competitions, they can hire these students right out of the gate if they see something they like,' said Lisa Schiraldi-Argiro, a cosmetology instructor at MCCTC.
The top four in Friday's competition will go to the state competition in March.
The top spot at state goes to the national competition in Atlanta.
