Public Prosecution Enhances Services for Seniors and People with Disabilities

Bahrain's Public Prosecution has announced new measures to support senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. Chief Prosecutor Nayef Yousif Mahmoud stated that Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain has issued a new directive focused on expanding accessible services for these groups. The move builds on current special procedures already in place and seeks to offer greater ease during investigations and dealings with the prosecution. 'This decision reflects the Public Prosecution's deep commitment to protecting human dignity and offering fair and equal access to justice for all, especially those who need additional support,' said Mahmoud. He added that the initiative aligns with national efforts to uphold justice and human rights without discrimination. The new decision mandates the Litigants Service Center to enhance its support and guidance for elderly and disabled individuals, making it easier for them to benefit from existing exceptions. Prosecutors and staff have been instructed to simplify investigative procedures to accommodate the unique needs of these individuals, regardless of their legal status in a case. These accommodations include home visits for interviews, or the use of technology for remote questioning in cases where appearing in person is difficult due to age or disability. Investigations involving these individuals will also be given priority to ensure they are completed quickly and efficiently. Additionally, an electronic registry will be established to log all cases involving elderly or disabled persons, tracking each step taken during the legal process. Cases that require further protection or care will be referred to the Witness and Victim Protection Office or the Public Prosecution's 'Raya'a' social initiative, depending on the situation. The decision also calls for periodic reporting and monitoring of these cases to ensure consistent
