Annual Litter Dash helps clean up Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Friday, the City of Sioux City invited residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to the annual Sioux City Litter Dash. The litter cleanup event aims to help beautify the Siouxland community and reduce the impact of litter on the environment. Around 600 volunteers were split into different sections of Sioux City to pick up as much litter as they could while trying to reach a goal of collecting four to five tons. Woodbury County Parks will open on May 1 'Obviously, it's a great way to meet other people that like the environment, that enjoy getting out and doing things for our community,' said Arah Montagne with Sioux City Environmental Services. 'It's great for our community to keep it clean. I know we get a lot of fence lines in there that get a lot of trash caught on them. So we want to keep those areas clean, especially with summer coming up, and we have a lot of visitors.' The Litter Dash began at noon and ended at 3 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Beautifying Sioux City before NAIA Women's Basketball Tournament begins
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A group of high school students in Sioux City are trying to make the community a cleaner place. Members of the East High Honor Society did their part on Tuesday to help the City of Sioux City clean up the city. Sioux City police remind residents of what rules to follow during a snow emergency This is a part of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce's litter mitigation efforts. The honor society picked up trash near Houlihan Run, Lakeport Commons, and Sunnybrook Drive. 'We don't get to do big things very often and a lot of them have said that once they see how bad the trash is, you can't unsee it. So its something that they begin to kind of care about and in April we're going to do a campus clean up with Litter Dash in Sioux City that Sioux City hosts and so they're looking forward to that also,' said Krista Limoges, East High National Honor Society sponsor.
