Fans are demanding a major change to the "unfair" Little League World Series in 2025 and beyond.
The 2025 Little League World Series, which features the 20 best teams from around the world - 10 from the United States and 10 from international countries - is underway. The annual tournament takes place in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It airs globally on ABC and ESPN, too.
The tournament is for players 12 years old and under. It's made up of Little League All-Star teams from various towns around the globe. Most of the tournament's top players are 12 years old, though you'll get some 11-year-olds, too.
Some fans are calling for a major change, though.
One 12-year-old Little League World Series pitcher has been topping out in the low 80 MPHs during the 2025 tournament. That's the equivalent of a 107 MPH fastball at the Major League Baseball level.
That's because Little League World Series field pitching mounds are just 46 feet away.
"Bet you didn't anticipate seeing a 12 year old throw 82 MPH today," one fan joked.
Fans are demanding a change, saying it's "unfair"
In the wake of the 82 MPH pitcher going viral, some fans are demanding a change, saying that the Little League World Series needs to move the mound back. You'll get other youth baseball leagues playing at 50/70 fields by the time players reach 12 years old - that means the mound is 50 feet away and the bases are 70 feet away from each other - but the LLWS remains at 46 feet and 60 feet.
"LL plays on fields far too small for 12 year olds. Mound is too close, bases are too close, and the fences are too close. Gotta do what Dixie Youth does at that age and move everything back," one fan wrote.
"12U baseball should be 54' mound & 70' bases. This is 46' & 60', which is the same 9u travel ball plays on," one fan added.
"They should put 9/10 year olds on little league diamond and then 11/12/13 year olds on pony/Dixie field. Especially with the level of training kids do at a young age now," one fan added.
"I was fixing to say I played cal Ripken and they're playing on the size we played as 9-10s 😂," one fan added.
The Little League World Series could eventually make a change, but it would require all Little League fields to get to those dimensions, which could prove to be difficult.
