Tributes pour in for Powys man left in coma for two years
Tributes have poured in for a Powys man who has died after being in a coma for the past two years. Jamie Selvey was left in coma for over two years after sustaining a serious injury in an attack in Newtown in 2023, and died over the weekend. He experienced 'catastrophic' injuries after he was punched during the altercation outside the Bell Hotel in June 2023. Mr Selvey's family confirmed the news of his death online on Monday. They paid tribute to the father of two and thanked the community for their kindness during the past two years. That led to an outpouring of tributes from the football community in Powys. He was a talented former player who had turned out for Carno FC, Kerry FC and Llanidloes Town, with whom he won the Montgomeryshire Cup in 2002. 'Jamie was a strong, committed player who represented us and several local clubs. "He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.' A man was jailed for 27 months in February last year, after admitting a charge of inflicting malicious grievous bodily harm. At the sentencing hearing in February 2024 Mr Selvey's parents called him a hard-working and funny man and "fantastic" footballer who was always ready to lend a hand to anybody in the community.

Rhayader Town welcome Jones as part of new management team
RHAYADER Town Football Club has unveiled its new management team for next season. Ex-Caersws, Llanidloes Town and Penrhyncoch player Lance Jones has returned to the club where he first played as a junior and graduated to the first team. Jones will join Eifion Price in managing the MMP Central Wales League South club next season. Jones said: 'This is a great opportunity for me to push this team back into tier three. I am looking forward to working with Eifion.' Jones is no stranger to the club and is the son of ex-Rhayader Town and Caersws defender Paul 'Jonah' Jones. Club chairman Rhys Thomas spoke for the committee in welcoming Jones back to his hometown club. He said: 'We are excited to welcome Lance back to Y Weirglodd to work alongside Eifion. "To be fair, Eif has done an incredible job managing the team from in between the posts, but bringing Lance on board will not only introduce fresh ideas - it will also bring greater discipline to our playing style.' "The committee has worked tirelessly to build the infrastructure, making our grassroots setup one of the best in Wales. "With this new management team, we hope to see some of our homegrown talent currently playing elsewhere return and help drive us back up through the tiers where we truly belong."
