Revel Showcases Leadership in Grid-Optimized Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging at New Williamsburg Superhub, Scaling Impact on NYC's Energy Transition

Using leading virtual power plant software, Revel supports New York City's grid during extreme heat events showcasing the future of climate resiliency in an increasingly electrified sector NEW YORK, August 05, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As electrification surges across New York City, Revel is showcasing leadership in grid-optimized electric vehicle (EV) charging. The Brooklyn-based electric mobility pioneer has officially activated SmartKit Demand Response technology at its new Supercharging Hub located at the historic Dime Building (275 South 5th Street, Williamsburg) — a state-of-the-art charging site that supports the city's clean energy transition while reducing emissions and grid strain. This marks Revel's fourth year participating in grid services across its various facilities. The Williamsburg facility represents the latest milestone in Revel's partnership with SmartKit®, a virtual power plant (VPP) software developed by Logical Buildings. By strategically shifting the timing of vehicle charging sessions, Revel helps alleviate pressure on the grid during peak hours — when electricity is both dirtiest and most expensive — while generating revenue through utility-provided Demand Response incentives. As New York City accelerates toward a carbon-free grid under its ambitious climate goals, grid-interactive electric vehicle infrastructure will be critical. Charging intelligently, particularly during extreme weather and demand spikes, reduces emissions from peaker plants — which can emit twice as much CO₂ and 20 times more NOₓ than traditional power sources. Revel's grid-responsive operations were put to the test as New York City kicked off the 2025 Demand Response season with three consecutive curtailment events from June 23 to June 25, many lasting 10+ hours each. This sustained effort, which required Revel to dynamically schedule charging loads across its infrastructure, played a key role in supporting grid stability during an unprecedented strain on the electric system due to extreme heat with temperatures soaring in the triple digits on June 24. "Our Williamsburg Superhub proves that EV infrastructure can be a grid asset, not a strain, by dynamically responding to grid stress signals," said Paul Suhey, Revel COO & Co-Founder. "As electricity demand rises with electrification and continued extreme heat events, smart charging plays a crucial role in helping New York build a resilient, decarbonized future." The severity of the recent grid stress cannot be overstated. On Tuesday, June 24, the utility provider in New York and Westchester forecasted electricity usage to reach 100.71% of the system peak — a rare and urgent grid stressor. (By comparison, Demand Response events are typically triggered when demand hits just 92% of peak capacity). Additionally, the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) reported that peak electricity demand reached 31,857 megawatts (MW) during the three-day heat wave—the highest level recorded since 2016.1 During these critical events Revel's actions provided immediate and measurable grid-positive relief. At its Williamsburg Superhub, which houses 15 public EV charging stalls capable of fully charging a vehicle in 20 minutes or less, Revel curtailed 250 kilowatts of load, contributing to avoided emissions from fossil fuel peaker plants. This targeted load reduction is expected to yield tens of thousands in grid services revenue — while delivering instantaneous and impactful resiliency for the local power grid. "Revel is showing how electric mobility companies can actively participate in electric load management," said David Klatt, President of Logical Buildings. "By using SmartKit, Revel is turning electric load into flexible, responsive capacity — a replicable model for cities looking to decarbonize while electrifying. As cities decarbonize, electric use will rise—and this new electric demand needs to be grid-interactive." The Revel–SmartKit® partnership first launched in 2021 with the company's electric moped fleet and has now evolved into a powerful model for full-scale EV infrastructure. With the new Williamsburg Superhub online and integrated into New York's Demand Response programs, Revel is actively shaping the next phase of grid flexibility and reliability. Logical Buildings Sets Enrollment Record, Providing NYC and Westchester Customers Cash Payments for Energy Savings and Helping Building Owners Comply with Local Law 97 by Reducing Carbon Emissions

NEW YORK, March 20, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Logical Buildings, a leader in AI-powered sustainability, smart building solutions, and virtual power plant (VPP) software, has unveiled the latest results from its GridRewards™ platform for 2024. This free energy savings program enabled more than 13,800 Con Edison, Orange, and Rockland Utility customers across New York City, Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties to earn cash incentives, cut carbon emissions, and support their local utility through demand response (DR) services. Despite a challenging demand response season with events on three consecutive days, participants in GridRewards still achieved meaningful performance. This record-breaking number of residents in both single-family and multifamily homes participated in GridRewards events during the peak utility season in summer 2024. Participation is expected to grow as enrollment is currently underway for the 2025 season in New York and in new markets like Texas and California, solidifying GridRewards as the largest and most effective energy rewards program for residents of multifamily buildings in the United States. Washington DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Illinois are new markets coming online with GridRewards in the coming year. GridRewards participants took action to optimize their energy consumption during Con Edison's peak demand period from May to October. When high electricity demand was anticipated, the app alerted users to reduce usage and unlock cash rewards. Simple changes, such as delaying energy-intensive activities like running dishwashers or charging electric vehicles (EVs) until off-peak hours, helped them maximize savings, and helped ConEdison mitigate the need to turn on high-emission energy-intensive peaker plants. In 2024, the average GridRewards participant enrolled in the reservation program received a payout of nearly $50, while top earners took home as much as $689.49 - enough to cover almost five months of the average NYC residents' electric bill! GridRewards users are also contributing to a cleaner, more resilient energy grid. Over the course of the 2024 season, participants collectively reduced energy demand by nearly 15 MW - the equivalent to powering off about 12,000 average U.S. homes, turning off 150,000 LED light bulbs (100W equivalent) at the same time, or taking roughly 5,000 cars off the road. At an individual level, participants achieved an average peak energy reduction of 1.2 kW per household, proving that small adjustments can lead to substantial benefits. "GridRewards is empowering people to engage with their energy use like never before, turning simple actions into meaningful financial rewards and real environmental impact," said Jeff Hendler, CEO of Logical Buildings. "Together, our users are driving a cleaner, more resilient energy future—one where communities benefit, costs go down, and emissions shrink. We're thrilled to see this movement grow and look forward to an even bigger impact in the 2025 season." Logical Buildings has continued its partnership with Sustainable Westchester, a non-profit sustainability consortium in Westchester County. "GridRewards has been a true success story," said Noam Bramson, Executive Director of Sustainable Westchester. "By participating in this innovative program, thousands of customers are helping to cut carbon emissions, strengthen our power grid, and reduce pollution in vulnerable neighborhoods—all while earning direct cash payments. We are delighted to continue working in partnership with Logical Buildings to advance our region's environmental and economic goals." Through a study conducted by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, GridRewards users were found to use an impressive 30.1% less carbon. These reductions are attributed to GridRewards' alerts and educational content, which raise awareness of energy usage and encourage residents to adopt better energy-saving habits. By monitoring their consumption and making adjustments—like turning off unnecessary lights and shifting high-energy activities—residents develop lasting habits that benefit both the environment and their wallets. Beyond residential customers, Logical Buildings continues to work with multifamily property owners and operators throughout New York City and beyond. The company's SmartKit AI™ platform integrates real-time data from AMI meters, building controls, and IoT networks, allowing building managers to reduce energy usage and generate revenue. With Local Law 97 enforcement underway, tech-enabled energy solutions like GridRewards and SmartKit AI are becoming essential tools for optimizing efficiency and avoiding compliance penalties. Multifamily buildings can roll out GridRewards building-wide by incorporating sign up into the move in process. The deadline to enroll for full participation in the 2025 GridRewards season is April 30, 2025. The app is free to download, and there is no cost to enroll or participate.
