BJP MP Manoj Tiwari confident India will soon become 3rd largest economy
New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday exuded confidence that India will soon overtake Germany to become the world's third-largest economy, noting that the difference between both countries is a close one. Speaking with ANI, 'We heard from the PM and the NITI Aayog itself during 2024 Lok Sabha Elections that we will become the third largest economy. We have come very near to our target. Along with Japan, the other country (Germany) is also at a close distance. We will soon be ahead. We are just waiting for a formal announcement of India becoming the third largest economy of the world. Manoj Tiwari comment came after NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BVR Subrahmanyam said that India has overtaken Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy, citing data by the International Monetary Fund. BVR Subrahmanyam also highlighted that India can overtake Germany in another 2, 2.5 to 3 years. 'We are the fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy as I speak, and this is not my data. This is IMF data. India today is larger than Japan. It's only the United States, China, and Germany which are larger, and if we stick to, you know, what is being planned, what is being thought through, it's a matter of another 2, 2.5 to 3 years; we would become the third largest economy,' said BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog. According to the IMF's April edition of the World Economic Outlook report, the nominal GDP for fiscal 2026 is expected to reach around USD 4,187.017 billion. This is marginally more than the likely GDP of Japan, which is estimated at USD 4,186.431 billion. India was the fifth-largest economy in the world till 2024. The global financial body projects that India will remain the fastest-growing major economy over the next two years. India's economy is expected to grow by 6.2 per cent in 2025 and 6.3 per cent in 2026, maintaining a solid lead over global and regional peers, the April 2025 edition of the IMF's World Economic Outlook added. India is projected to remain the fastest-growing large economy for 2025 and 2026, reaffirming its dominance in the global economic landscape. In contrast, the IMF projects global economic growth to be much lower, at 2.8 per cent in 2025 and 3.0 per cent in 2026, highlighting India's exceptional outperformance. (ANI)

BJP's Rajeev Chandrashekhar moves Delhi HC over dismissal of defamation against Shashi Tharoor
New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): Kerala BJP president and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar on Thursday approached the Delhi High Court to challenge a trial court's decision to dismiss his criminal defamation complaint against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The case stemmed from remarks made by Tharoor during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Chandrasekhar has alleged that Tharoor's statements were defamatory and harmful to his reputation. The matter was scheduled for hearing on May 8 before Justice Ravinder Dudeja but was later adjourned to May 20 due to the absence of the petitioner's counsel. In February 2025, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi declined to issue a summons to Tharoor in Chandrashekhar's defamation complaint. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) dismissed the complaint after reviewing pre-summoning evidence presented by the complainant's counsel, ruling that the case did not establish defamation against the proposed accused. On September 21, 2024, the court took cognisance of the defamation complaint and directed the complainant to present pre-summoning evidence. Chandrasekhar alleged that Shashi Tharoor, in an interview with a news channel during the Lok Sabha Elections, made serious allegations that Chandrasekhar was engaged in vote bribery. Chandrasekhar has claimed that these insinuations are defamatory and harmful to his reputation, leading him to file a criminal defamation case against Tharoor. The defamation complaint has further asserted that in another interview with TV News Byte, Shashi Tharoor claimed that various individuals had approached him with allegations that Rajeev Chandrasekhar was bribing voters. Chandrasekhar has contended that these statements are defamatory and damaging to his reputation, which has prompted him to take legal action against Tharoor. In its September 21 order, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate stated: 'Based on the submissions and material placed on record, which prima facie disclose the ingredients of the offence, I take cognisance of the offences under Sections 500 IPC and 171G IPC.' The complaint further alleged that Tharoor defamed Chandrashekhar by making false and derogatory statements on national television, knowingly misrepresenting facts with the intent to harm his reputation and influence the election outcome. Additionally, it was claimed that the interview was widely circulated by various news channels and social media platforms at the behest of the proposed accused, leading to reputational damage and ultimately contributing to Chandrashekhar's electoral defeat in 2024. It was alleged that the proposed accused had defamed the complainant by making false and derogatory imputations on the national television that he had been bribing voters in the Thiruvananthapuram Constituency knowing fully well that such statements were false and with the intent to lower complainant's reputation and to affect the result of upcoming elections. It was also alleged that the interview(s) was/were published by various news channels as well as on social media platforms at the behest of the proposed accused and resulted in loss of reputation of the complainant in the society, which ultimately resulted in the complainant losing the Lok Sabha Elections, 2024. Russian President Putin accepts invite to visit India, Foreign Minister Lavrov says preparation on
Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India, as confirmed by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov on Thursday, Russian news agency TASS reported. While addressing the "Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda" conference through a video, Lavrov said that India is currently making arrangements for the visit of the Russian President. The conference is jointly hosted by the Embassy of India in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC). The Russian Foreign Minister stated that Putin will be visiting India following the invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made his first foreign visit to Russia following re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. "[Russian] President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government. A visit by the Russian head of state to the Republic of India is currently being prepared," Lavrov said as quoted by Russian News Agency Tass. Last year in July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia on the invitation of Russian President Putin to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Earlier in February, TASS reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Russia for the May 9 parade at Moscow's Red Square to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic Wa. As per the military source cited by TASS, the visit by the PM has a "high probability". "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning a visit to the May 9 parade in Moscow. It is highly likely that it will take place," the agency's source said, TASS reported. As per the military source cited by TASS, it was noted, "The issue of participation in the parade on Red Square of a ceremonial unit of the Indian armed forces, which should arrive at least a month [before the parade] for rehearsals, is also being worked out."
