State to implement 36 programmes to achieve Viksit Odisha goal: Majhi
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said the state government has decided to implement 36 programmes in various sectors to realise the Viksit Odisha by 2036 goals. Presiding over a consultation workshop for Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047 documents at the Lok Seva Bhawan here, the chief minister said that the programmes will be selected from the fields of industry, education, health, infrastructure, rural development, tourism, tribal welfare, women's empowerment, Odia language and culture. Stating that Odisha will become a $500 billion economy by 2036, the chief minister said steps have been initiated to ensure that people at the bottom of the society will get all basic facilities. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country and the state is firmly on the path to progress. On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Odisha's formation as a state in 2036, the government has taken a firm resolve to make it one of the most developed states in the country. Odisha will also play an important role in achieving the goal of making our country a developed nation by 2047,' he said. Majhi said the state government opened the doors for consultation to prepare the vision documents and received over 3.2 lakh proposals from the general people of the state and non-resident Odias. It is the first state in the country to prepare this document by analysing data and suggestions given by the people with the help of artificial intelligence, he said. The state-level workshop was attended by experienced administrators, educationists, public representatives, representatives of industry and civil society and eminent personalities from the field of art and culture. Deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, Revenue and Disaster Management minister Suresh Pujari, cabinet ministers, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja and senior officials attended.

Odisha sets vision for top five economy with focus on basic amenities, inclusive growth
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said Odisha's ambitious vision is to position itself among India's top five states economically by 2036, its centenary year, while ensuring quality basic amenities of bijli, sadak, and paani (electricity, roads, and water) for all citizens and jobs for after chairing a consultative workshop on 'Vision 2036 and 2047' at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi announced that in a first-of-its-kind initiative, Odisha has employed artificial intelligence to analyse over 3.2 lakh proposals received from citizens and non-resident Odias, adhering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Jan Bhagidari' vision. "The vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and a promise for future generations," said Majhi, revealing that the draft is nearly complete, as he nears one year of his office on June 12. The plan, dubbed '36 for 36' by the CM earlier, will implement 36 flagship programmes across various sectors, including economy, industry, education, health, and state aims to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and reach $1.5 trillion by 2047, serving as a crucial growth engine for a developed India. The state govt envisions Odisha as India's gateway to East and South-East Asian nations through port-led development. "Infrastructure, skill development, ease of doing business — we will do everything necessary to establish industries," Majhi CM Pravati Parida highlighted the focus on women's empowerment, ensuring equal rights and safety across sectors by 2036. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said various stakeholders contributed to the blueprint for this state-level workshop, which saw participation from ministers, administrators, and voluntary organisations, three regional workshops are scheduled in Sambalpur, Balasore, and vision documents for 2036 and 2047 represent comprehensive plans for transforming Odisha into a prosperous, industrially advanced state while maintaining focus on quality healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for all minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said extensive consultations were held with intellectuals, various civil organisations, social workers, educators, public representatives, environmentalists, and civil society members to finalise the Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047 document."We are collectively working towards building an Odisha that is economically prosperous and ensures social justice. The aim is to establish the state as a leader in human development indices," he said.

Odisha government departments asked to be in state of readiness for summer cyclones
BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Tuesday asked all departments concerned and other agencies to remain prepared for potential disasters like cyclones and floods. Reviewing the preparedness of the state administration and other agencies at Lok Seva Bhawan here, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, citing the summer cyclone 'Fani' that occurred in May, 2019, asked the departments concerned to be prepared in case a similar situation occurs. 'Though there is no information of any cyclone happening in the state at present, every department should work in coordination to face any disaster,' he added. Ahuja directed the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) to strengthen the system of communicating cyclone information to every person at the grassroots level at the earliest. Briefing about the disaster management preparedness, special relief commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh said preparations have been made for dissemination of cyclone or weather alerts through digital systems. 'This apart, the doppler weather radar system at Gopalpur and Paradip have also been strengthened. All preparations have been completed to set up doppler weather radar stations at Balasore and Sambalpur,' he added. Director general of Fire Services, Sudhanshu Sarangi highlighted the preparedness of the department and laid stress on strengthening telecommunication system during cyclones. Additional director general of police Rajesh Kumar, who joined through video conferencing, briefed about the preparedness of the ODRAF forces deployed at various locations. Principal secretary in the Information and Public Relations department Sanjay Kumar Singh said the unified command system will be strengthened to provide quick service in the post-disaster period. 'For this, stress should be laid on proper coordination with various departments and priority given to essential services,' he added. Strengthening of mobile towers and quick restoration of power after a cyclone were discussed in the meeting. Coordination and cooperation among cyclone shelters, local block administration, sarpanches and the public, issues related to water resources, food supply, drainage system, medical services among others, were also discussed.

Coop bank depositors get back their money
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has begun the process of refunding money to the depositors who had accounts in the Bhubaneswar Urban Co-operative Bank which shut down in 2015. The bank had shut down due to complete mismanagement. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday launched the process to refund money and as many as 117 depositors got back their deposits worth Rs 2.80 crore on the first day, an official release issued by the CMO said. Majhi handed over cheques to nine depositors and refunded the money at a function at Lok Seva Bhawan here. The money belonging to the depositors of Dhenkanal, Chhatrapur, Aska and Bhanjanagar Urban Co-operative banks will also be refunded soon, he said. More than Rs 6 crore will be refunded to 17,859 depositors of these four banks, the official release said. Official sources said the government will refund an amount of Rs 20.96 crore to 9,537 depositors of Bhubaneswar Urban Co-operative Bank. Though 11,673 depositors were entitled to get back their Rs 33.87 crore, around 2,709 small depositors were given their money back. They had deposits of less than Rs 1 lakh each, the sources said. Now, the government has started refunding the money to the depositors who had more than Rs 1 lakh each in their accounts in Bhubaneswar Urban Cooperative Bank.

Baijayant meets CM Majhi, seeks help for all-round development of Kendrapara
BHUBANESWAR: Kendrapara MP and national BJP vice-president Baijayant Panda on Monday met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Lok Seva Bhawan and discussed various developmental works including establishment of a logistics park in his district. As the district is highly susceptible to flooding during rainy season with villages in the lower catchment of major rivers like the Mahanadi, Brahmani, Baitarani and their tributaries facing regular inundation, Panda requested the government to take steps for permanent mitigation of the problem. He urged the chief minister for construction of a barrage on Luna river to prevent flooding in the low-lying areas. The discussion also focused on protecting Gahagapata area under Garadapur block and Bisibilapata area under Kendrapara-Pattamundai block from floods. Panda also requested the chief minister for identifying a suitable land for the construction of a charitable multi-specialty hospital in Kendrapara to improve healthcare services in the district. The Sathya Sai Seva Samiti has proposed to set up a hospital in Kendrapara. The discussion also covered several development projects including establishment of a logistics park, setting up a cold storage, accelerating the works of drinking water projects, promotion of eco-tourism in Dangamala, developing Buddhist tourism in Lalitgiri and others. He also drew attention to the huge vacancies in different government posts in the district.
