
Odisha sets vision for top five economy with focus on basic amenities, inclusive growth

on Friday said Odisha's ambitious vision is to position itself among India's top five states economically by 2036, its centenary year, while ensuring quality basic amenities of bijli, sadak, and paani (electricity, roads, and water) for all citizens and jobs for all.Speaking after chairing a consultative workshop on 'Vision 2036 and 2047' at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi announced that in a first-of-its-kind initiative, Odisha has employed artificial intelligence to analyse over 3.2 lakh proposals received from citizens and non-resident Odias, adhering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Jan Bhagidari' vision.
"The vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and a promise for future generations," said Majhi, revealing that the draft is nearly complete, as he nears one year of his office on June 12. The plan, dubbed '36 for 36' by the CM earlier, will implement 36 flagship programmes across various sectors, including economy, industry, education, health, and infrastructure.The state aims to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and reach $1.5 trillion by 2047, serving as a crucial growth engine for a developed India. The state govt envisions Odisha as India's gateway to East and South-East Asian nations through port-led development. "Infrastructure, skill development, ease of doing business — we will do everything necessary to establish industries," Majhi said.Deputy CM Pravati Parida highlighted the focus on women's empowerment, ensuring equal rights and safety across sectors by 2036. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said various stakeholders contributed to the blueprint for development.Following this state-level workshop, which saw participation from ministers, administrators, and voluntary organisations, three regional workshops are scheduled in Sambalpur, Balasore, and Jeypore.The vision documents for 2036 and 2047 represent comprehensive plans for transforming Odisha into a prosperous, industrially advanced state while maintaining focus on quality healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for all citizens.Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said extensive consultations were held with intellectuals, various civil organisations, social workers, educators, public representatives, environmentalists, and civil society members to finalise the

Govt forms ministerial panel to oversee Puri Rath Yatra arrangements
Bhubaneswar: State govt has formed a high-powered ministerial committee, headed by deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, to supervise the arrangements for the June 27 Rath Yatra in Puri, according to a law department notification released on Friday. Law secretary Manas Ranjan Barik has been appointed as the convener, with Parida serving as the chairperson. "The committee's mandate includes supervising and guiding government-level arrangements for Rath Yatra, which anticipates attendance exceeding 10 lakh devotees. Smooth conduct of rituals, proper crowd management and convenience of devotees will be the focus areas," a senior govt official said. The govt is taking comprehensive measures, including plans to extend invitations to the President, Prime Minister, Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states for the annual festival. The celebrations will take place two weeks after the BJP govt in Odisha marks its first anniversary on June 12, an occasion expected to draw prominent BJP members, including PM Narendra Modi. "We will leave nothing to chance to ensure inter-departmental coordination for an incident-free Rath Yatra celebration," the official said. Sources said the committee is likely to visit Puri in a day or two to oversee the preparations and discuss with various stakeholders as well as servitors of the Jagannath Temple.

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday said on this day, a year ago, the people of Odisha chose development and blessed the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a 'people's government' in the State, ending the 24-year rule of Biju Janata Dal headed by Naveen Patnaik. 'A year ago, on this day, you chose development; you wanted positive change in Odisha and blessed the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a people's government. This was the victory of truth, the victory of 'Asmita' (Odia pride)', Majhi said in a post on X. He said, 'Your trust gives us strength to work. Your trust inspires us to fulfil all our promises. In honour of the trust, confidence and hope you have placed in us, our government has been and will continue to strive to build a prosperous and developed Odisha by serving the people of Odisha.' The BJP formally formed its government in the State on June 12, 2024, after the saffron party was declared winner on June 4 by getting 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly while the BJD won 51 seats followed by Congress (14), CPI(M) (1) and Independents (3). Majhi, who won from Keonjhar Assembly seat, was a surprise pick of the BJP as its first Chief Minister in Odisha. He took the oath of office along with two deputy chief ministers and 13 other ministers on June 12 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Though BJP formed government in Odisha due to number game, the people have cast more votes in favour of BJD than the saffron party candidates. The people have trust in Naveen Ji and his leadership,' BJD senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said. Mishra said the Biju Janata Dal is performing its role as a 'responsible' Opposition party in Odisha.

CM launches 12 projects worth Rs 28K cr in Ganjam
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday performed groundbreaking ceremony for 12 industrial and infrastructure projects worth a total of Rs 28,084 crore. The projects have the potential to create 15,455 jobs. These projects are located across Tata SEZ at Gopalpur, and Chhatrapur, Buguda and Barapalli areas, reinforcing the State's target of building a diversified and sustainable industrial ecosystem in Ganjam region. On the occasion, Majhi said these projects will provide jobs and uplift local communities through infrastructure, innovation and opportunities. 'On World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly development. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's Viksit Bharat vision, Odisha's double-engine government is focused on inclusive growth -- through industry, healthcare and skill development,' he said. The Chief Minister said after the 'Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha' conclave in January this year, Rs 1.5 lakh crore worth of projects have been implemented within five months, creating 90,000 jobs. Gopalpur Port is emerging as a key gateway, the Chief Minister said. Tata Steel SEZ Limited's Managing Director Manikanta Naik said, 'Groundbreaking of these projects marks a critical phase in the development of Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP). It highlights the conducive industrial environment fostered at GIP, aimed at encouraging innovation and long-term investment. The concerted efforts of our team, strong industry partnerships and continued support from the government have been instrumental in reaching this milestone.' In the green hydrogen and ammonia sector, Ocior Energy Private Limited has launched Rs 7,200-crore project at Tata Steel SEZ, creating 2,300 jobs, while HHP Five Private Limited brings an additional Rs 4,000 crore investment with 1,595 employment opportunities. Petronet LNG Limited made groundbreaking for its proposed Rs 6,500 crore LNG terminal in Gopalpur, which will enhance regional energy infrastructure and generate 1,000 jobs. In specialty chemicals, UPL Limited is grounding a Rs 4,000 crore facility at Tata Steel SEZ, projected to employ 4,100 people. The green energy equipment segment is boosted by Saatvik Solar Industries Private Limited (with an investment of Rs 3,500 crore and would create 3,225 jobs) and World Green Energy Private Limited (Rs 2,500 crore investment and 2,500 jobs). In the logistics sector, Geo Impex and Logistics Private Limited is setting up a multi-modal logistics park in Chhatrapur with Rs 207-crore investment andwould create 350 jobs. Tarangini Distilleries Private Limited leads agro-processing with a Rs 149 crore bio-ethanol project at Buguda, offering 205 employment opportunities, while Odisha Monolithic brings Rs 4 crore investment in refractory materials at Chhatrapur, adding 50 jobs. In eco-tourism, Crochet Industries Private Limited is investing Rs 18 crore in an eco-resort in Gopalpur, generating 80 jobs. JSR Greenex and Linox Ortho Surgical Private Limited are supporting the e-waste and medical device sectors with smaller but impactful units at Barapalli, bringing a combined Rs 5.5 crore investment and 50 jobs, the statement said. Additionally, two major infrastructure projects – Tata Steel Industrial Park (Rs 200 crore) and IDCO's utility corridor and industrial estate development (Rs 229 crore) -- will create the backbone for sustained industrial growth in the region.
