Naveen Jindal's Humanitarian Initiative -- 20,000+ Jindal Steel Employees to Donate One Day's Salary for the Rehabilitation of Border Villages

Jindal Steel & Power Limited New Delhi [India], May 20: The historic success of Operation Sindoor under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has filled the nation with pride. Yet, it has also left thousands of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's border areas facing a grave humanitarian crisis. In the wake of Pakistan's brutal attack, many innocent lives were lost, and villages were reduced to rubble. In this time of adversity, Shri Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel and the Member of Parliament (Loksabha) from Kurukshetra, has taken a compassionate and resolute step to come forward to support the rehabilitation of affected families in the border regions. As part of this initiative, Shri Jindal has announced a financial contribution towards relief and rehabilitation efforts. Significantly, over 20,000 employees of the Jindal Steel & Power have voluntarily pledged to donate one day's salary, transforming this act from an individual gesture into a unified national commitment. Speaking on the occasion, Naveen Jindal said, 'The citizens living along our borders are no less than soldiers. Their courage, resilience, and sacrifice inspire us all. Now, when they are in distress, it becomes our moral and national duty to stand with them. I urge every Indian and every institution to contribute to this noble cause.' It is noteworthy that following the heinous killing of innocent civilians in an April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor -- a decisive military strike on terror camps across the border. In response, Pakistan targeted Indian border villages with heavy shelling, leading to displacement and destruction. This act of support by Jindal Steel is not unprecedented. The company has a legacy of stepping up in times of national crises -- from ensuring oxygen supply and free meals during the COVID-19 pandemic to contributing Rs25 crore to the PM CARES Fund, and offering timely aid during the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. Naveen Jindal's initiative reflects his deep-rooted sense of responsibility toward the nation and its people. It sends a powerful message of solidarity to our fellow citizens in the border regions: they are not alone in this hour of need. The collective resolve of the Jindal Steel family is not only a concrete step toward rehabilitation, but also a reaffirmation of the spirit of national service -- a spirit that forms the foundation of a strong and united India. TMC, BJP focus on North Bengal as 2026 poll battle heats up

Kolkata: With an eye towards the West Bengal Assembly election in 2026, BJP and Trinamool Congress-both the political parties are trying to strengthen their positions in North Bengal. To boost Trinamool Congress's presence in North Bengal, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be on a three-day visit starting from May 19. Meanwhile, LoP Suvendu Adhikari will also visit North Bengal's Banarhat, following switch over by former Union Minister John Barla, which will impact the tea garden vote bank, from BJP to Trinamool Congress. The Bengal Chief Minister will participate in an administrative review meeting with officials of all district administrations, district officials from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar. She will also take part in a Synergy Business conference on Tuesday in Oldabari. Former BJP Union Minister and tea-belt heavyweight leader John Barla last Thursday joined Trinamool Congress, weakening BJP's strength in the tea garden belt of North Bengal. After the exodus of around 10 BJP MLAs since 2021, Barla leaving BJP was a jolt to the party ahead of 2026 polls, especially in the tea belt region of North Bengal, which had swayed towards the saffron party from 2019 Lok sabha polls, 2021 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Barla had a substantial hold on tea garden belts of Alipurduar and was MP from the Alipurduar seat. He became junior minister in the Modi cabinet allso. However, he was not given a ticket in 2024 Lok Sabha polls and in 2024, Manoj Tigga contested and won from the seat, widening the breach between BJP and Barla. Meanwhile, a recent reshuffle was conducted by Trinamool Congress leadership in the organizational framework in Birbhum. Trinamool Congress Supremo has assigned responsibility to conduct election and other related work to a Core-Committee, which will look into the coming 2026 elections in Birbhum, with senior leader Asish Banerjee as the Chairperson. Until recently, the Core Committee was monitored by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Anubrata Mondal, the heavyweight leader of Trinamool COngress, who was Birbhum District President, has been removed from the post and no one is heading the post as of now. Mondal was arrested by ED and returned to his home in Birbhum district's Bolpur town in September last year with his daughter, Sukanya, after both were granted bail by the courts in Delhi in cases related to cattle smuggling. Live Events Asish Banerjee held a Core Committee meeting today in Birbhum, while former President Anubrata Mondal was recently removed, during a reshuffle. "It has been decided in the Core Committee Meeting, several political programmes will be organized from May 25-27," Asish Banerjee said. "We have urged the party workers that they should exercise restraint while writing anything on social media. It has been decided that stern action will be taken against those who violate such rules," Asish Banerjee said. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Tripura's women empowerment policy a game changer: Biplab

Agartala: Loksabha MP from West Tripura and former CM Biplab Kr Deb praised the state's women empowerment policy on Saturday, highlighting its significant impact on social development, which has resulted in a substantial increase in women entrepreneurs across the state, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee . "During my tenure as chief minister of Tripura, Union home minister Amit Shah on International Women's Day in 2022 launched the policy and Rs 400 crore was allocated for its implementation," Deb said. He added that in three years, it made a visible change in the overall women's development index. The policy emphasised women's economic and social independence as a crucial element in ensuring their dignity. Additionally, it secured 33% reservation for women in government positions and recruitment through outsourced agencies in the state. The administration implemented various programmes to assist women in higher education, including educational loans at 3% interest rates from financial institutions. The introduction of 10% women's reservation in police recruitment established a significant milestone in Tripura.
