praised the state's women empowerment policy on Saturday, highlighting its significant impact on social development, which has resulted in a substantial increase in women entrepreneurs across the state, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee .
"During my tenure as chief minister of Tripura, Union home minister Amit Shah on International Women's Day in 2022 launched the policy and Rs 400 crore was allocated for its implementation," Deb said. He added that in three years, it made a visible change in the overall women's development index.
The policy emphasised women's economic and social independence as a crucial element in ensuring their dignity. Additionally, it secured
33% reservation for women
in government positions and recruitment through outsourced agencies in the state. The administration implemented various programmes to assist women in higher education, including educational loans at 3% interest rates from financial institutions. The introduction of 10% women's reservation in police recruitment established a significant milestone in Tripura.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh, which once amended its laws to bar people with more than two kids from contesting panchayat and municipal elections, now plans to incentivise having larger families as part of a strategy to combat dropping fertility rates and shift focus to what CM N Chandrababu Naidu terms "investment in human capital". Naidu announced recently that female employees could avail of maternity leave any number of times. "It was limited to two times only. We have removed the restrictions," he said. The state govt also made it mandatory for every organisation to provide childcare centres at workplaces. Naidu announced financial aid of Rs 15,000 for every schoolchild. "We give this money directly to the mothers of students. Apart from this, the NDA govt in AP is planning to announce financial assistance to couples for having more kids." The two-child policy previously applicable to prospective candidates for panchayat and municipal polls has been reversed. Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin said recently that with the Centre pushing for population-based delimitation of constituencies, there was a need for people in the state to have more children.

Sanatan Dharma and Jainism are pillars of Indian spirituality: Governor Gehlot
Belagavi: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Sunday described Sanatan Dharma and Jainism as foundational pillars of Indian spirituality that teach self-purification, the path of truth and non-violence. He addressed the Bhattarak Sammelan and Jain Community Conference organised by the 1008 Bhattarak Shri Adinath Digambar Jain Samaj Trust at Ainapur in Athani taluk, where he attended as the chief guest. "Such conferences offer an opportunity to reconnect with moral values and religious traditions in today's fast-paced life," the governor said. He urged the Jain community to take collective steps to provide religious education to the younger generation, preserve pilgrimage sites and hold regular spiritual gatherings. The seer criticised the Siddaramaiah-led govt for neglecting the community in welfare schemes and urged the creation of a separate development corporation for Jains. He also demanded the announcement of a dedicated pilgrimage scheme for Jain women to visit Sammed Shikharji in Jharkhand. "If the govt continues to ignore us, I am prepared to go to any extent—even sacrificing my life—for the rights of the community," he declared, also calling for the immediate restoration of scholarships for underprivileged Jain students. Gunadharnandi Munimaharaj further objected to the recent caste census figures, stating that the Jain population is grossly underreported. "According to us, the Jain population in Karnataka exceeds 20 lakh, but the survey shows only 1.66 lakh. This is unacceptable and must be rectified," he said. Adani plans projects worth 17,500cr to expand CSMIA's capacity by '29
New Delhi: The Adani group has identified a string of projects — well over 310 that will require a capex of about Rs 17,500 crore by March 2029 — to augment the annual passenger handling capacity of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to 6.5 crore passengers annually (CPA). The projects include building a bigger Terminal 1 in place of the existing terminal, expanding Terminal 2's capacity from 4 CPA to 4.5 CPA and increasing the hourly flight handling capacity to over 52. By 2029-30, the combined capacity of CSMIA and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is expected to touch 11.5 CPA, to "cater to the growing demands of Mumbai region and Mumbai Metropolitan Region", shows an order issued by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) recently. Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) "has proposed extending existing taxiway M to link it with the physical beginning of runway 27, including the construction of a bridge over Mithi river. The proposed Taxiway M extension will create an additional holding area for aircraft.… It will be designed for Code F aircraft (that include Boeing 747-8 and Airbus A380)," the order states. NATS has done a study and has confirmed the peak hour theoretical capacity of 55 ATMs (aircraft movement) based on its analysis benchmarking with other busy single runway airports like Gatwick but in respect to taxiway infrastructure, it has stated that the 'master plan changes appear to offer significant benefits, but they require more detailed assessment to confirm'. The phasing of the taxiway infrastructure changes should be reviewed to ensure that sufficient capacity is provided as demand grows," the order shows. MIAL has proposed a capex of Rs 17,440 crore in the fourth control period, that is upto March 31, 2029, on the capacity augmentation at CSMIA through the various identified projects related to key areas including airside improvement and passenger terminals. T1 is proposed to be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 3,130 crore by Sept 2028. T2 expansion is projected to cost Rs 142 crore and be over by March 2027. The air traffic control technical block is projected to cost Rs 185 crore and be done by March 2027.
