Ireland's new U20 gold medalist Conor Kelly to follow Rhasidat Adeleke's footsteps in Texas move
The 42 IRELAND'S LATEST RISING star in athletics, Conor Kelly, has confirmed he will follow in Rhasidat Adeleke's footsteps by attending the University of Texas. Kelly collected his 400m gold medal at the European U20 championships today, having stormed to victory in yesterday's race, clocking a new U20 national record of 45.83 seconds while he was at it. Speaking today to Athletics Ireland after stepping off the podium, Kelly said, 'I couldn't stop smiling, it was incredible. I was probably up a little later than I should've been. I woke up a little late, not much sleep…This is the last week before I go to Texas (for college) so I better get a good goodbye in.' Kelly raced alongside Adeleke in the mixed 4x400m at the world relay championships in May. Today marked the final day of the championships in Tampere, Finland, with Sean Cronin (1500m) and the Irish women's 4x100m relay team finishing eighth in their respective finals. Racing in a stacked, tactical 1500m final. Clonliffe Harriers clubman Cronin dug deep down the home straight to cross the line in 3:50.80. Advertisement 'I'm really proud of how I ran that race. I think I got as much out of it as I could have,' he told Athletics Ireland. 'I'm delighted with the progression I've made this season, I think I've really stepped up. I've not just trained harder; I've trained smarter and done all the little things right in between.' An hour earlier, the Women's 4x100m relay team of Fatima Amusan (Leevale AC), Molly Daly (Kilkenny City Harriers), Leila Colfer (St Laurence O'Toole AC) and Precious Akpe-Moses (Blackrock AC) clocked a time of 45.17 seconds in finishing eighth in their relay final, which was faster than their heat time. Akpe-Moses – who was racing at these championships for the eighth time, having made the finals of both the 100m and 200m – reflected on her performance and that of the team with pride. 'It's been a long championship,' she said. 'We made it to the final, did what we could do, and we're satisfied.' After a long two days of competition, Enya Silkena (Ratoath AC) finished 17th in the Women's Heptathlon with 4693 points. Silkena was in action in the Long Jump (5.63m), Javelin Throw (39.48m) and 800m (2:30.19) today. Seamus Clarke (Moy Valley AC) was unable to finish the final of the Men's 10,000m Race Walk due to injury. Versatile Hannele Raji scoops amazing four golds for Boyne AC at Louth Championships
Wearing the iconic yellow vests with pride, Boyne AC's juveniles and masters lit up the track and field with performances that went far beyond medals, though there were plenty of those too! From personal bests to podium finishes, and most importantly, an incredible show of sportsmanship and team spirit, the evening was a celebration of everything the club stands for. Among the standout performers was Hannele Raji, who put on a truly exceptional display of athleticism and determination. She stormed to first place in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump (with a leap of 5.07m) before going on to take gold in the Javelin and silver in the Shot Putt. It was a remarkable show of talent, power and focus. Aimee Rice, competing above her age group at just 16, demonstrated composure and strength across multiple disciplines. She earned bronze in the 100m, silver in the Long Jump with a personal best of 4.20m, and silver again in the 400m. She finished the evening on a high with bronze in the Javelin, highlighting her versatility and competitive spirit. Eilish Keenan ran with focus and endurance to win the U20 3,000m in 12:20.39, while her brother Seamus Keenan controlled his race from start to finish in the same event, earning a confident and well-deserved first place. Ryan McMahon powered to third place in the U20 100m, then followed up with a brilliant second in the 200m. Sam Doyle narrowly missed out on a medal in the 100m but showed true promise with a personal best in the 400m, finishing fifth in a tough field. Evan Gamble ran a smart and composed race to claim first in the U20 400m, leading from the gun and never looking back. Boyne AC's senior and masters athletes also rose to the occasion. Club president Catherine Tiernan finished second in the W45 3,000m with a strong 12:35.91 performance. Catherine is more than a competitor, she is the steady and passionate backbone of Boyne AC. Her leadership and love for the club are visible in everything she does, from race day to training nights, where she is a constant source of encouragement and support to all athletes, especially the juveniles. Brian Brodigan, a key figure in the club's juvenile coaching team, showed he still has plenty of competitive fire himself. Representing the M45s, he finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:20.04 and went on to win gold in the 200m with an impressive 28.05sec. Brian is an extraordinary coach whose impact goes far beyond medals. His dedication to nurturing young talent, encouraging every child, and bringing energy to every session has made him an irreplaceable part of the Boyne AC family.

NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: Chandler Rivers, CB, Duke
Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Vikings fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Minnesota. Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Vikings, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Vikings fans can be the most informed fans. So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall. Player Information Player: Chandler Rivers School: Duke Height/Weight: 5-10/180 lbs. Player Background - 3-Star Recruit - Second Place in State Championship in the Long Jump in High School - Led his Basketball Team to Two State Championships - First-Team All-ACC in 2024 Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 164 Tackles - 13 Tackles for a Loss - 1.5 Sacks - 5 Interceptions - 21 Pass Breakups Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 71.9 PFF Run Defense Grade - 77.3 PFF Pass Defense Grade - 82 NFL QBR When Targeted - Called for 8 Penalties Player Traits - Good tackling technique in space - Excellent burst/speed cutting on routes - Closing speed to force turnovers or break up passes - Physical in coverage and tackling - Has an excellent all-around game Player Summary Chandler Rivers is a fun cornerback prospect who plays Manny Diaz's system perfectly. Rivers thrives in being able to provide support in both the run and pass game. He can be physical in man coverage, and lax just enough to create a false sense of security in zone before jumping routes and breaking up passes or forcing interceptions. What impressed me the most was his technique both in coverage and tackling ball carriers. All in all, Rivers should be considered among the best cornerbacks in this class and deserves all your attention this fall.

NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee
Player Information Player: Jermod McCoy School: Tennessee Height/Weight: 6-0/193 lbs. Player Background - 3-Star Recruit - All-State Baseball Player - Won Two State Titles in Long Jump and Triple Jump - Transferred from Oregon State to Tennessee - First-Team All-SEC in 2024 Career Stats Heading into the 2025 Season - 75 Tackles - 2 Tackles for a Loss - 6 Interceptions - 16 Pass Breakups Notable PFF Numbers Heading into the 2025 Season - 67 PFF Run Defense Grade - 77.5 PFF Pass Coverage Grade - 73 NFL QBR When Targeted - Called for 8 Penalties Player Traits - Blanket ability in man coverage - Playmaking ability with ball skills and instincts - Good size and length to handle bigger, faster receivers - Can be physical in press coverage at the line of scrimmage - Excellent burst and closing speed on receivers Player Summary Jermod McCoy tore his ACL ahead of the 2025 season back in January while training, and as a result, we are not likely to see him in the Fall. What he put on film, though, in 2024 was enough to make him the clear-cut number one cornerback heading into the new season. He blankets wide receivers with his movement skills and coverage ability. He has the closing speed and burst you want from your cornerbacks, as well as those traits giving him an added playmaking ability. McCoy also has the ball skills to make plays on the ball and it leads me to believe he can be every bit the same type of cover corner and playmaker in the NFL with a healthy knee.
