Baltimore Ravens draft former Rutgers football CB Robert Longerbeam

There's no shortage of defensive backs who have gone from playing with Rutgers football to the NFL. Now there's one more. Cornerback Robert Longerbeam, who played in 53 games and made 31 starts while with the Scarlet Knights, was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the 212nd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. Advertisement Longerbeam during his time with Rutgers had 154 tackles (4.5 for loss) with two sacks, five interceptions and 37 pass breakups. Initially committed to Virginia Tech as part of the 2020 recruiting class, Longerbeam flipped to Rutgers following the hiring of coach Greg Schiano. Rebilas-Imagn Images Greg Schiano has sent multiple DBs to the next level – including Jason and Devin McCourty and Max Melton, who was drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals last season – and was confident Longerbeam could be next. He was right. What Robert Longerbeam will bring to the Baltimore Ravens 'Robert's been a great football player for us,' Schiano said at the program's Pro Day in March. 'He is a guy that understands the game of football inside and out. He's got really good physical abilities. He's getting bigger as he gets older and that's going to help him be more durable in that league. But without a doubt he's a really good cornerback and he's done so much for our program. Really just a very, very intelligent football player.' Advertisement One of Longerbeam's strengths is his speed, something he's going to need at the next level. He had a chance to put that speed on display in front of NFL talent evaluators when he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. While the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Longerbeam might lack some of the physical size pro teams look for, he can make up for it with athleticism and skill in the right situations. "He's plenty tall and long," Schiano said. "He's got to keep putting the weight on. It's a physical game that you coach and play. He's doing that. You can see his progress as he's trained just for this, without having to worry about school or those things. He's put on a solid six or seven pounds. He'll continue to do that as he matures physical. As far as a football player goes, he's been tremendous." Tennessee Titans have pre-draft virtual meeting with Rutgers CB Robert Longerbeam

Tennessee Titans have pre-draft virtual meeting with Rutgers CB Robert Longerbeam With a little over a month until the start of the NFL draft, like every team, the Tennessee Titans are in the middle of their draft prep. Team coaches, scouts and officials are all busy conducting interviews, attending Pro Days and hosting Top 30 visits. For the most part, the Titans have been tight lipped about the players that are set for visits. So far, Abdul Carter, Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and Jamaal Pritchett have been completed. Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter is scheduled for a visit to Nashville, but no official word has come out on if that has taken place. On Friday, sources reported that Rutgers cornerback Robert Longerbeam was scheduled to have a virtual interview with the organization. Longerbeam is an explosive athlete with smooth coverage skills who may lack the size to hold up against bigger, physical receivers on the outside. At 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, his size limitations could be exposed in the NFL, especially against the run. As a pure cover corner, he excels in zone, has tremendous instincts and ball skills, and has the fluidity in his hips to mirror any route. While he has the positional flexibility to play inside or out, he needs seasoning inside an NFL weight room before taking on a larger role on a defense. Longerbeam has the ability to step in and make a special teams or sub-package impact, but his overall size could limit him early in his career. The Titans could look to add a cornerback after the release of Chidobe Awuzie and lack overall depth at the cornerback position. Longerbeam appears to be a Day 3 prospect with a solid athletic profile that could be on their radar.

3 Chargers targets who stood out on Day 2 of 2025 NFL Scouting Combine

3 Chargers targets who stood out on Day 2 of 2025 NFL Scouting Combine Here are a few potential draft targets for the Chargers that stood out on Day 2 of the NFL Scouting Combine. Friday marked the second day of on-field workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine. A handful of defensive backs and tight ends put on a show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Here are three players who could be on the Chargers' radar who increased their stock with eye-opening demonstrations of athleticism. TE Terrance Ferguson, Oregon The Chargers might not have Michigan's Colston Loveland available to select when they're on the clock. If they have to pivot, there will still be plenty of talented tight ends available beyond Round 1, including Ferguson, who exemplified his athleticism and explosiveness. Ferguson posted the best 40-yard dash time (4.63 seconds) at the position and had a 39-inch vertical jump. He also finished with a 10 foot-2 broad jump. TE Jalin Conyers, Texas Tech Conyers is one of my favorite tight end prospects for the Chargers, purely based on his film. But the athletic traits translated to the testing. At 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, Conyers had top-five finishes in the broad (10-foot-1) and vertical (35.5 inches) jump results. He looked sharp in the on-field drills, moving smoothly and catching everything thrown his way. CB Robert Longerbeam, Rutgers The Chargers could use some depth at the slot cornerback position and on special teams. Longerbeam first caught my attention at the East-West Shrine Bowl. He only continued to raise my eyebrows with his testing. Longerbeam ran a 4.39 40-yard dash and paired that with a whopping 11-foot-2 broad jump. He's only 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, but Longerbeam plays bigger than his size, with a quick trigger and aggressiveness when making plays in front of him.
